You could always add Bell Hooks to the mix, if anyone wants to recommend a book of hers for the uninitiated.

I like The New Jim Crow. It is an important work.

Tinea (pist) I added all these books to a poll. We usually decide based on a relaxed combination of talking it out to consensus and majority via the poll.
