I had two favourite books when I was a child. One was The Lost World: Being an Account of the Recent Amazing Adventures of Professor E. Challenger, typical Dinosaur fodder for a boy I suppose. But the other was Gone with the Wind, not your usual boys adventure book. The two books might look very incongruous, but they do reveal a lot about my reading and writing interests as an adult.

Annie (ultimatehungergamesfan) | 45 comments Cool! :) But I meant more as a little kid. Like Dr. Seuss stuff.

I was talking about when I was a little kid!

We had a lot of old books in a bookcase and after I had read the odd TV Comic I would pull some of them out and have a read. Actual children's books I found on the shelf and read (although they were quite old even then) included, Rick Afire! With Morgan on the Main, Ice Gripped, and The Black Pearl. But I think the kind of book you mean was Five Go to Billycock Hill!

Oh, and I also got a lot of books about Dinosaurs from the Library —a lot of books about Dinosaurs!

Have you ever heard of Peter and Jane? I used to read them when I was like two or three years old!

Bedknob And Broomstick by Mary Norton

...I think my love and reading and writing all started with that book. I read it time and time again, and found a new copy a few years ago. It still has its magic.

I never really got into Roald Dahl...he never pushed any buttons for me.

Yeah I used to read it all the time :D Has anyone read Enid Blyton, cause that's pretty much what I've read when I was younger :)

@Chloe,

I mentioned an Enid Blyton book I read when I was younger, it was one of the Famous Five books. I think I may also have had some Noddy books, I think she was the author of those as well.

As regards books read as part of learning to read, I think those were Janet and John books in my day. Same thing, though.

@David

Yeah I used to read Famous Five, The Wishing Chair (I think), The Magic Faraway Tree and loads others...

Hmm...It's Peter and Jane but it doesn't go under those names by the way so I guess they are the same things :)

A good guide of your reading as a child might also be the comics you read. My favourite was TV Comic and TV21 (with all those Gerry Anderson strips). I could have read the Eagle, Beano and so on, and I did read a few of these. But those first two were my long time favourites and I still actively hunt annuals from the Sixties. So my comic reading reflected my genre choice in books, predominantly Science Fiction. Is this a common trait or connection?

Blujeanbooks96 (wwwgoodreadscomblujean_books96) I had heaps of favourite books when I was little, but 1) I definitely know was way up there was Fairy Foals by Suzannah (no last name). it sounds corny, but it was a beautiful book with gorgeous illustrations and poetry for someone who loves horses and fantasy. I loved it :)

I love the fantastic five! When I was three I got an invisagirl (is that her name?) doll and I still have it! Though she's missing a leg...

I haven't heard of those books before. Are they interesting?

Lo (darkalleycookies) | 7 comments Well, about a year ago I reread Sahara Special and it didn't strike me as emotional as I thought in third grade, but yeah, to me they were pretty interesting.
