I think a wash of automatic want, like how the borders of Hogwarts make you believe you've missed an appointment or that you should be somewhere. This want would simply be a spark of greed which makes no sense with the human presence (but whatever). The waves makes you need to walk over and steal whatever is there because it is your deepest, tantrumming desire to have it. What is there is a person, which, when a few feet away, you lose your thoughts to confusion upon; wondering why you took the time to walk up there in the first place.

It's giving the humans a feeling akin to vampire thirst, thus making it ironic.

This is great for a hungry vampire but not great for a hungry vampire standing out in the middle of the street in broad daylight, being mobbed by every individual ten miles radius, all wanting something.

You can't take them all and they can't all see you.
