Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments I'll bet it has something to do with The Cat in the Hat.

Is there a Thing One?

Thing Two (thingtwo) Thanks, ladies!

I finished
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress translated by Ina Rilke - 184 pages in the Witches Brew category for a red book.

About my name - yes, it's from The Cat in the Hat. There are many "Thing One"s in my life; I'm playing off the idea that I don't often put myself first. I have a blog - www.kjsthings.com - and I'm one of those things. It's also my twitter name. :)

Total pages read - 389
Witch's Brew points - 500
Treat points - 250

Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments I'm not sure if you are aware of the rainbow challenge and it's connection with the Toppler.

If you pop over to the Challenges: Year Long Reporting folder, you will find the rules for the rainbow challenge.

Start yourself a thread in that folder and score this book for your Red Task. The author's last name is to start with the letter R, but I will allow the translator's name to count since I don't think you were aware of that requirement.

Having finished this book, you get 500 pages for Witches Brew, and a treat. I would recommend that you read an orange book so that you can complete the challenge. It's the one chance to circumvent the requirement it be read in August, as Judy has indicated above.

I hope I haven't confused you. If so, give me a shout!

You mean I have to read a red covered book AND the author's name has to start with R? Yikes. These rules are getting in the way of my tbr list!

Okay - add my 100 newbie points together with

The Case for Israel by Alan M. Dershowitz The Case for Israel by Alan M. Dershowitz - 244 pages, and I'm at 633. Off to find an orange book.

Yes, but I will allow the translator's last name in your selection as meeting the rule.

Don't forget to pop over to Year Long Challenges, and start your thread, or you won't get credited for the challenge.

Cool! I didn't even catch the translator's name. Lucky me!!! I'll start a rainbow thread next.

Thanks, April. My son came down with the flu, so I'm speed-reading while he sleeps! 8-)

I read it for the 21st Century Book Club here on Goodreads. Are you a member? We've been discussing!

I've only read one other DFW book, but this one definitely makes me want to read the rest of his. I was sad, of course, at the end. What a waste of such a brilliant mind.

Thing Two (thingtwo) Thanks! Telex from Cuba was a Treat reward fiction, but other than that it all looks right.

Found another short book I could've read on my kindle app ... oh, well. lol

Yeah, my husband just asked how many pages I'd read, and then said it's no wonder we ran out of food! I guess he appreciates me. :-D
