my last book for 2012 will be Life of Pi, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast for Crows.

I don't know hoe to link authors or titles of books I am reading...some help on that would be appreciated. thanks

life of pi finished...currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns byKhaled Hosseini. I added 1 more book to my list to finish up 2012 readings

Thank you Judy...I am finished with A Thousand Splendid Suns...it was an awesome eye opening read. picking back up with A Storm of Swords.

The Old Man and the Sea Was a beatifully written book. Also a classic about an old fisherman in cuba.

The Alchemist This was a classic and timeless piece of literature about a boy who travels to Egypt to find his personal legend. This book is literary alchemy at its best. I loved it. It is a must read for everyone at somepoint in their life.

And the Mountains Echoed This was an amazing book that takes place for the most part in Afghanistan. It has it's sad moments when it makes one think of their own aging self and family and losing loved ones....A bit if a tear jerker because no one wants to think about losing a loved one.

Carla - good to hear you enjoyed it - the first feedback I've heard, besides the general book reviewers. Really enjoyed his first two, particularly Kite Runner. I'm looking forward to it. Have you read his other books, and if yes, is this one similar or different?

Lilisa- Yes I have read A Thousand Splendid Suns by him. I have not read Kite Runner yet mostly because I saw the movie before I even knew there was a book. I will read it one day though. This book is only similar in that it takes place in Afghanistan. The story line is different from his other books in that it jumps around between different characters perspectives but they all up intertwining in some way. But I guess I would say that you would know it was one of his books because of his writing style. I enjoyed it for the most part.

The White Queen. Interesting account of Elizabeth Woodville! I have never been fond of history classes and was always bored out of my mind with talks of wars and the names of kings, queens, generals, and dates surrounding various accounts in history. However, Philippa Gregory has in some way stirred a slight interest in the lives of the characters brought to light in her literature. I can honestly say that I am looking forward to finishing the series and learning more about this age in time's history.

Still in England with The Red QueenAll I can say is that Margaret Beaufort is bat shit crazy! She is so full of herself with claims to being so holy, but how can a woman so evil, jealous, and vain about her "royal line" make claims such as the ones portrayed in this book and then turn around and bring God into it....the woman is insane! The entire time I was rooting for her downfall simply because she pissed me off the entire book. Goodness only knows how she will act now that she is in the royal court.

I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban I was in afghanistan a few weeks ago with this autobiography...I cannot express in words how this book made me feel! To think that there are people out there today that prevent women from wanting to get an education is discusting. Malala's story was amazing and horrific at the same time. The fact that she is still living and still fighting for a cause is remarkable.

After reading what you've said about The Red Queen, I think I want to pick it up for one of my travel books too :D

It was a really good book. The character Margaret made my blood boil. I will pick back up in the series shortly and see how she acts in the next book. :) More than likely she will still be crazy!

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn This a now one of my favorite coming of age books! Betty Smith is a literary queen with this book. Absolutely loved it!

I felt the same way! Classics usually go one of two ways for me. Either I love it or I don't enjoy it at all. Another classic author I discovered last year was John Steinbeck. After reading The Grapes of Wrath, I'm going to have to read all his novels now!
