I found this book today and thought of Riona:
Brooklyn Noir

So I started a thread to make other Group members happy :)

Post your happy-making stuff for others here.

Riona (rionafaith) | 457 comments Awwww! I'm touched.

I actually stumbled across that book on overdrive a couple months ago, so it's on my library e-book wishlist but somehow it never made it to my goodreads TBR. Thanks for reminding me!

Leo Robertson (leoxrobertson) | 297 comments Dear Ms Tombstone,

Forgive me for being terrible at internetting, and I don't know if you've done this before but I think it would be awesome to have a "Best books you've read this year" thread around new year :-)

Having read more books this year than in my life previously (seriously, just check my goodreads- no lie!) I'll have loads to say and I suspect there are others like me in your huuuge group of greatness :D

This would make me happy which is the tenuoustess of connections to this thread, but wasn't sure where else I could post my request :-)

Cheers and continue being great!

Leo

Riona (rionafaith) | 457 comments I think it should be best AND worst. I know I've read at least one awful book this year....

Did you finish it? I have to say, I'm surprised by all the one and two star reviews on Goodreads. If I don't like a book I rarely get past 50 pages. The only exceptions are the ones that hold a morbid fascination, such as 'Twilight'.

You bet I did -- and then wrote a scathing review. It was cathartic.

Oh hell, I'll go ahead start a Best/Worst of 2012 thread! I think we've derailed this a bit...

Update: Here it is, guys.

Oh, yeah - I remember you hating on that one! It sounds like the worst book ever, teen dystopia ala the extreme religious right. I think that one goes under the 'morbid fascination' label. And the derailing is the best part of these threads, eventually they will wander back onto the tracks. This one has probably been superseded by the one you just started anyway.

Oh, wait - the whole best / worst thing was the derailing, wasn't it? Never mind, carry on!

Nice one - I was thinking that sometime closer to New Years, we could do a "Reading Goals for 2013" thread too. I've already been thinking up a few - particularly since I am now fully committed for the rest of the year!

Yes to that too! I should set more goals.

Allen (allenblair) | 17 comments I like the reading goals idea ... I've been adding a LOT of books to my want to read list (thanks everybody) but now I need some organized chaos :)

Good call, Marc! Sorry - but "busy" is something I surpassed so long ago and so spectacularly, that I yearn to be that relaxed again!
