Duma Key discussion

If you don't think this is a true "KING" novel, then I believe you should commend him. Not many writers can change or be unknown.

In my opinion, this is Classic King.

I loved this book. It reminded me of a lot of King's earlier work. The plot is superb, the characters are colorful and the ending will keep you reading until the very last word.

it was great and he nailed how a friendship starts - unfortunatly it lost its way towards the end of the book, after the art show it kinda fizzled. while it was good though it was great

Yes it is classic King. His stories, in the least are very interesting, and not all of them are horror. They are character driven, which makes him such a great writer.

I totally agree!

This book ranks in the top 3 for me. Right under The Stand and It. I have stopped blaming him for his endings. I just enjoy the ride.

I believe his endings are what makes his books. But the ride is always what we're looking for and that's also his forte. ;)

Why more of his books don't become movies is beyond me.

This is the only King's book I have read so far. In my native language (polish) translation it has ridiculous title ("The hand of the master").

The Stand is his most popular, The Shinning would come next, then It.

There are many: Misery, Christine, The Cell, Under the Dome, Cujo, his short story collections, The Running Man, Carrie. Those are what I can think of now.

His worse ones for me are 1st - It, definitely. Then others that are just interesting but not great, this one here we're talking about, The Tommyknockers, Pet Sematary, I tried reading the 1st book of the Dark Tower series but couldn't get into it. There are others. The Stand, I liked a little more, but still he's got much better.

But given the number of books he writes and that there was only one I thought was just terrible, I consider him one of my favorite authors. He has been a definite influence in my writing.

The first dark tower book was boring at best...I'll agree. But the rest were amazing. You must stick with them. My favorite is 11/22/63.

I have been meaning to read "the Stand"! I've just finished Duma Key which I really liked and I am glad to see that The Stand is going to be just as good or better

I don't think they've translated well into movies, most of them anyways. Stand By Me and Shawshank Redemption were excellent and I really liked Secret Window but the others seemed cheap and didn't seem to tell the story well enough. Though I think to tell a whole Stephen King story, well most of them, would take hours.
