Rather than a "BookTalk" in front of the class, please discuss your books here.

Some discussion topics include:
1. Are the characters in your book realistic and if so how? Can you relate to them or do they remind you of teens you know? Would you be friends with any of the characters in your book? Explain. NO REAL names mentioned in responses.

2. What have you learned from your book or has your opinion about the topic changed from reading this book?

See where the discussion takes you. Stay on topic, but feel free to have an organic discussion about the book. Read the other discussions on GoodReads for ideas about what else to discuss.

Natasha Scalice | 1 comments I have learned so far that kids get bullied in different ways. Not every one is bullied the same. No one should be afraid to go to school.

Natasha, thank you for joining the discussion. You are absolutely correct. Nobody should be afraid to go to school. Especially in a world where there are so many other things to be fearful of. School should be your safe haven. What can we do to ensure that nobody is afraid to come to Little Falls?

Veronica | 1 comments I think the characters in the book are realistic. If any teenager is in the situations they're in, they would feel the same way. Feeling pressured to be perfect or feeling out of place happens when you're discriminated against, abused or told that you're "dirt". I'd probably react the same way. I probably wouldn't be friends with anyone in the book because the friends described in the book are nothing like me at all. My awareness for the issues in the book has increased. Child abuse is a serious problem that you sometimes have no clue if its happening or not. Most people think racism isn't a problem anymore, but it really is. I hear racist jokes all the time. Bullying is also a serious issue. Constant bullying can lead to someone reaching their breaking point, which sometimes results in harm to themselves and others.

Thank you for yor response, Veronica. I'm sorry that you still find instances if racism in your world. Unfortunately, we can't always change everyone and make everyone accepting of our differences. If only we could learn to appreciate each other for our differences. Maybe you and I could try harder to be friends with someone who is not like us. That could be a start to making your world a better and safer place.
