Mari Why isn't she free? Did she need Varen in her realm? If she did, then why didn't it help her? if she didn't then why did she bring him there? What is the whole deal with the silver string in the tummy? People keep talking about the whole Varen rel;ationship like thats all there is to the book. But what about the actual..you know..plot?

I don't think we're meant to understand yet what exactly it is that Lilth is trying to do. Pinfeathers did give an answer to this question when Isobel asked, but it was another "Riddle me this" answer. It sounded almost as if Lilth and the Nocs, themselves, were even surprised by the fact that they could still travel between the worlds because Isobel was supposed to have destroyed the link when she burned Varen's sketchbook. I think this is a loose end that Kelly will resolve for us in the last book.

As for the whole deal with the silver string, that is supposed to be the link that connects a person's astral form (their spiritual/soul I think that travels between worlds) to their actual physical body in the real world. If that astral form is cut, then the person, I guess, dies (like Edgar did when Reynolds cut his)? I don't know; that's another question to be answered: Why was Edgar's chord attached to the darkness that was Lilth and the Nocs when he was actually in his body when Isobel saw that scene? Is it because he created them in his writing? I believe Lilth said in that scene that Edgar was bound to her, so perhaps that's why? However, does that mean that the same thing will happen to Varen if Isobel is able to get him back into the real world?

Mari I actually meant what is the silver string to Lillith. Can she pull herself in using it? If so, why hasn't she used Varens. he has been to her realm, and now she should send him back to eath and use the string. So why is she keeping him hostage in her realm, where his silver thing isn't helping her?
