What is your first reaction/response to the book? Does it start out interesting? Does it use imagery or dialogue to grab the attention of the reader?

Andreana | 16 comments G-Spot An Urban Erotic Tale By By: Noire

My first reaction to the book was that it seemed interesting. Yes it does grab the readers attention with it's dialogue and all the imagery. It is well detailed and explained you can visualize the whole book from the text.

Katelyn Baker | 18 comments Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

My first reaction was, "Wow, am I really going to like this book? Oh well, I might as well be polite and read it". It starts out kinda slow and kind of confusing but as it gets further into the book it captures your attention and you get sucked into the book.

Isaac Hernandez (acdcrocks9) | 15 comments Watchmen/Alan Moore

My first Reaction was very dark world being New York it felt very different but from the start it was interesting, it starts fast and keeps going and doesn't slow down. The dialog along with the drawing it was fun making voicing for the characters and with the time its set in it felt so real.

message 5: by Daniel Arroyo (new)

Daniel Arroyo | 27 comments My first reaction to The Old Man and The Sea was about an old man that is out in the sea basically and his experience out in sea. But that was not the case it starts off with a boy that is going to spend a boat ride somewhere in Mexico with an old man. It also gave good imagery and dialogue and it did grab my attention.

Shannon | 16 comments Midnight in the Garden of good and evil- John Berendt
My first reaction was that the book is kinda boring, i put it down and read something else. When i picked it up again it started to read more and it got interesting. It uses very little visual elements, there is very little in ways of flowery poetic wording. While the imagery is very plain it has a redeeming quality in that it is a very compelling story therefore, the story makes up for the lack of originality in the writing style.

Ginna Marciel | 24 comments Marked by P.C.Cast and Kristen Cast.
When I first started the book, it started out with a normal high school student which books like that always grab my attention. It talked about the normal high school student having a so-called "cold" and a dead man slashed her forehead making a mark on her head in the shape of a crescent moon. And as soon as a person was marked, they were to be sent away to live in the "House of Night" because they are becoming a vampire. It is a really good book. And it caught my attention really fast.

Kenesha (niecey) | 27 comments The Nature of Jade, by Deb Caletti
My first reaction to this book was that is was kinda interesting. Jade starts out by talking about how she first saw Sabastian on her webcam that she had one to show the elephant section at the zoo. He would either visit with his son, or go after dark when the zoo was closed and just stand where the elephants were and just think. She then went on to describe how she was diagnosed with Panic disorder. I was really intrigued by this book. I wanted to read on because I wanted to know who the boy in the red jacket with the baby was. I also wanted to know how her panic disorder was going to play out through the whole book. I was surprised with the whole imaging. I could almost see everything that went on in Jades life, and in her thoughts, I could almost imagine what is like for her whenever she had one of her panic attachs. I liked how Jade wasn't afraid to speak what she was feeling and to be herself around others. The whole thing caught my full attention.

Jaffer | 23 comments Snakehead, by Anthony Horowitz
When i first started, it had a continuum from the previous book. ive read most other alex rider novels and this is the most interesting one ive started on. It seems very interesting and it grabbed my attention from the very beginning.

Mireya Garcia-Belman :] | 11 comments Forever By Judy Blume
My first reaction to this book is that the cover looked really girly, so I figured it'd be a chick book. The beginning has just start off introducing the main character Katherine. It describes how she is; her personality, and everyone surrounding her. As well as the other soon to be main character, Micheal. In which she has a crush on. :]

Gina Lamm | 27 comments Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith by Wrede Patricia C.

When I first got this book, I was thinking, "Whoa, it's about my favorite movie." The first part of it was interesting because Anakin and Obi-Wan are fighting in outer space trying to save Palpatine. The imagery grabs the attention of the reader.

Tanisha Williams | 25 comments Dont make a black woman take off her ear rings/Tyler Perry
At the beginning it used imagery, but its not really something that you will enjoy reading, you have to read a little more before it becomes interesting.

message 15: by Becca (new)

Becca (rewashed) | 21 comments Little Altars Everywhere -Rebecca Wells

I could relate to the main character, Siddalee Walker, immediately. My first reaction was to keep reading. The imagery and dialogue are interesting because the book takes place in Louisiana and everyone knows Louisiana is a different kinda southern.

message 16: by Alfredo (new)

Alfredo Dominguez | 20 comments When i first started reading my book i tough it was really interesting because i always tough that Dennis Roadman was a crazy dude. This book uses a lot of dialogue between Dennis and his family.

Eliana Lechuga | 20 comments The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant

The title attracted me to pick up the book, the first sentence of chapter one made me think that the story was about Botticelli's painting, Birth of Venus. But once I started reading the prologue the mystery started to unravel itself and it caused me to keep reading.

emmanuel gonzalez | 21 comments The title of the book i finished reading was Wind up the river: a story of the civil war and the author was Laurie Lawlor. well it starts with may character as a soldier going into war and how scare he is of dying so it start a little bit boring but if you keep on reading you will probably like it.

Renny | 8 comments My first reaction to the book was that it was interesting, but as you progress in the storyline the book start to seem boring. But it definitely uses a lot of ways to keep the reader distracted.

Adilene Macedo | 27 comments Shattered by Paul Langan
My first reaction was kind of confusing because it is a series of books in order to understand this book I'm reading but has i kept reading along i started to get the hang of what is was talking about. It both because at the same time there is dialogue but then it is balanced out by using imagery in order to describe the scene & climate in which the conversations take place at.

message 22: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina | 19 comments The Looking Glass Wars/ Frank Beddor

connor bond | 22 comments Nick and Norah's infinite playlist/ Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
This book opens with Nick at a concert when his ex walks in with another boy and he tries to make her jealous by kissing Norah. The book uses dialogue to ensnare the reader

Anthony Jaques | 25 comments "my name is Asher Lev" by Chaim Potok

I enjoyed the beginning of this book; it draws the reader into the (for me) unfamiliar world of Judaism with diction specific to this religion. The exposition is written as if the narrator is telling it retrospectively. It did a good job of grabbing the reader's attention.

"Two steps ahead of the thought police" by John Leo

My book started of Controversial to say the least. It's about the authors visit to an art studio that's featuring an exhibit seemingly about political correctness. As the author claims, its not really about art, but about "victimization, imperialism, patriarchy, and the dreadful stigma of white skin". I found it kind of funny how the author immediately sets up that he's opposed to this kind of thinking. I always love reading the rantings of the far right.
