I was wondering if anyone has read the Chanur series by C.J. Cherryh. I noticed Downbelow Station was a potential upcoming pick, but I have to say that I really enjoy the stories surrounding Pyanfarr Chanur and her adventures. Not only is this series non-human centric, but females play the central role as well.

Love the Chanur books! I think C.J. Cherryh just kind of blew the doors off with The Pride of Chanur (all those entirely new and well-realized alien races in one tiny book) and then turned the volume up to 11 with the follow-up trilogy. I really wish she'd revisit Hilfy and Pyanfar and Tully, but I get the feeling that these days her biggest audience is for the Foreigner books.
