We can keep the discussion threads running indefinitely too, so people can catch up with the discussion when they're ready.

Yay! Have you been keeping the previous discussion threads open? I think that's a great idea.
Awesome choices! I've read Battle and Triffids, so maybe I can keep up. Definitely in on "Last Exit".

Yes - they're all still open. I found a cheap copy of The City and the City today too, so I'll finally be able to jump in on that discussion. When I get to read it.....!

That's brilliant! I hope you enjoy them after all that! :)

I've read Battle Royale, so I'm starting with Last Exit To Brooklyn. So far, so good. It took me the first 5% to get into it, but I'm hooked now. I've even put down This Book Is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don’t Touch It so I can read it!

I have to say I'm very impressed with Last Exit To Brooklyn so far.
No spoilers, and I'm not trying to kick off the discussion early or anything (much as I'd like to!) BUT it's pretty special. Very graphic and intense subject matter too, in case anyone needs a warning! It's also a quick read if people are trying to manage their time :)

Just saw The Day of the Triffids on sale for 15% off at Booktopia ($8.45 AUD).

(Note - This is an Australian site, but they ship internationally. No free shipping, but they do flat-rate shipping on multiple items, so can still work out quite cheaply sometimes).

Yikes - Just realised I had conflicting start dates posted for this! I was going with December 10th, as above, but forgot that I'd changed it to the 20th when I realised we were doing 4 of them! To make matters worse, earlier tonight I posted "Discussion Open" threads on the first two of the books!
I guess the Mistress of Chaos is living up to her name. Doh.
Happy to go with either the 10th or 20th depending on what most people are aiming for..

Though if threads are open already, I don't see why people shouldn't start discussing if they're ready! (I'm almost done with Last Exit To Brooklyn and will jump in as soon as I am!)
Special announcement: DECEMBER EXTRAVAGANZA GROUP DISCUSSIONS OPEN RANDOMLY ANY TIME FROM NOW ON. YOU WON'T KNOW WHEN. YOU WON'T KNOW WHY. NOBODY EXPECTS THE CHAOS READING DISQUISITION!
I'm all for a chaotic start to the discussions. With xmas coming, people aren't likely to get much time to chat after the 20th. So keep watching the screens....

From time to time I wish there was a "like" button on comments in threads. Now is a time I would press that button.

All four of the top selections will have discussion threads popping up on December 10th. Feel free to participate in as many or as few of these as you like. It's okay to jump into a discussion thread a little bit later if you need to - just go nuts!
The four books are:
Last Exit To Brooklyn
Battle Royale
The Day of the Triffids
Palimpsest
Enjoy! Looks like we all have a bit of reading to do!
If anyone would like to volunteer to lead one of these discussion threads, please just let me know :)
