Hi! I'm Bev from Indiana. As the Challenge Rules tell you...I have an incredible mountain range of TBR piles. Still. Even after the 2012 Mount TBR Challenge. I have this little problem...it's called getting anywhere near a book store. I own over 2000 books and have about 500-600 that need reading. I'd love it if you'd tell us a bit about yourself and maybe give us an idea what your mountain range looks like. How you acquired it...any little thing you'd like to share about yourself.

Yes! build that spaceship! I thought about just declaring that one straight up, but I'm just gonna make it to the top of Everest this year--so I wasn't sure I'd manage another 50. If I do, that will be a bonus!

So do I, you may count on me on this one.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, Bettie, Bev and Laura... (and a lot of others as well), there's no keeping up with you!

Well the good news is that I'll be working really hard next year, which means that the bad news is that I wont be reading much. So I'll sign in at the lowest level, Pike's Peak, and see how it goes. I'm just going to squeak through with Ararat this year... I have the month of December to read my last book!

It was such fun this year, talking with everyone and seeing everyone's progress.

Thanks, Bev!

message 7: by Sera (new)

Sera Hi, all! Good to see you again :)

I read about 80 books a year, but half are usually from the library and I get distracted by shiny new reads, which means that I am going to start with Mt. Blanc and see how things go from there. Last year, I finished the challenge even though I had a sloooooow start. I am hoping to get some momentum earlier this time around.

Looking forward to some more buddy reads as well :)

message 8: by Geevee (last edited Nov 25, 2012 02:00PM) (new)

Geevee Hi all, and thanks for the invite Bev. I'm glad to join again - and will look to read 24. Highlight from the 2012 group was the buddy read on A Tale of Two Cities.

Rebecca Huston (telynor) | 8 comments Hi, I'm Becky (aka Telynor) and I'm a bibliomaniac. I think I shall try for El Toro, with hopes for something more. For listing what I'm trying for, I'm going to make a shelf called 2013 Mt. TBR Challenge, and try to get my to-reads listed. I think that should work. And if anyone wants a buddy read, please let me know.

message 10: by Pixelina (new)

Pixelina Hi all, I think I will try to do the Mount Blanc too. I got a heap here of about 60 books I want to be able to shelf away in the 'read' shelves. Gonna sort them out in my spinning book shelf and make a category here tomorrow.

message 11: by Donna (new)

Donna | 3 comments Hi everyone. Back again for another year. I'll stick with Pike's Peak again this year. I know it's just 12 books but it's 12 books off the mountain. Good luck to everyone.

message 12: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) Hello All!

I just saw this challenge mentioned at Darlene's Book Nook blog and thought it would really help me get my towering TBR pile under control. I have probably close to five hundred books to read between purchases, freebies, gifts, and books won in contests. I'm going to go for El Toro.

Thanks for organizing this Bev.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Hello everyone,

I'm signing up for another year as well. I loved last year's MTBR Challenge and I don't want to miss out on this one.

I'm glad to see familiar nicks again. *waves*

I don't think I'll be reading as much next year as I did now. Like Hayes mentioned, I also have a lot going on at work that I have to part of AND (no less important!) in my personal life there are still issues that need to be dealt with.
But, even if the Mount will be lower in 2013, I just like to take part. I might even try a buddy read, although the last one I tried was not so succesfull (I abandoned my buddies.... yes, I'm ashamed...).

I'm very enthousiastic, I guess :-) But you surely hadn't noticed that ;-P

message 14: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 45 comments I'm signing on again as well, but I'm starting at the lowest level and will move up if necessary.

message 16: by Donna (last edited Nov 27, 2012 12:54PM) (new)

Donna (drspoon) Simply a great idea! I had already decided to read almost exclusively from my TBR shelves in 2013 so this will be a great place to monitor my progress. Thanks! I'll be climbing Mt. Ararat.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

This past week-end, I did my annual Sorting of the Stacks: I pulled down all the stacks and pulled out the books I want to read for other challenges and what-not. I have over 600 books in my TBR stacks so I figure I could probably get around to reading at least 12! I only read 14 from my stacks last year; and from that only two were on my original designated list (oldest titles in the stacks); but I'm determined to get through a lot more this year! The idea is to read and donate (and thereby clear some space in my office and living room!) I'm not putting up a list per se; but all of the books I read for this challenge will have been added to my good-reads list already so you can see when I got them (I own all books on my to-read list.)

Thank you, Bev for hosting this challenge this year and, once again putting up a goodreads thread :-)

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone! I'll shoot for Pike's Peak again in 2013, if only to get through the backlog of kindle freebies. Naturally, I had to go and buy one today to read for next year's challenge. I'm almost done for 2012. I don't buy too many books, just manga, and kindle freebies/cheapies.

I enjoyed the buddy-reads, too, and I hope to get through a few that I actually own this time around!

Célia | Estante de Livros (celiamar) Hello,
I'm Célia from Portugal.
I own more than 800 books, and almost half are still to be read. So I think this challenge can help me beat the pile. There was a time when I bought almost every book that caught my attention, or even if it didn't but it had a nice price.
I'm a 100+ a year reader, normally, but 2012 was very atypical. I got pregnant (my baby is 2 and a half months old) and the will to read disappeared. Now is coming back and I want to read the many interesting books I have at home. Since I don't know how much time I will have to spare to reading (a little baby is VERY time consuming), I will go to Mt. Vancouver.

I also made a post in my blog with the challenge: http://www.estantedelivros.com/2012/1...

Good luck everyone!

message 21: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Yuska (vanness77) | 1 comments Hi,

I'm a new member and ready to face the challenge next year.
I'll try to finish 100 books in 2013. This year is nor so bad, but I have a toddler to take care of.
I have more than 500 books in my library, so I guess it's time to eat them all.

I will go to Mt. Vancouver first.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi to all the new climbers. Hey Jeannette! Nice to see you here! IIRC, we are planning to read Jonathon Strange & Mr Norris in January, although I could be convinced to move the date. Are you still on? Anyone else? I've had this one on my shelves for too many years... it's taking up too much room!

Hi, Yusaka! Glad to have you along this year! Good luck tackling Mt. Vancouver!

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) Hi!
My name is Christina. I decided, even though I have a blog, I'd sign up here this year. I think it's a better way to track progress -- I've successfully climbed Mt. Ararat and I'm three books shy of Mt. Kilimanjaro for 2012, and I don't think I've posted a single update to Bev's blog! :)

My 'to-read' shelf here is NOT accurate -- it's more like 1,200....

I'll be climbing Mt. Ararat, again, for 2013. :D

Darkpool Hi all, I'm back for another go even tho I have super-failed this year (on track for the first quarter, then got totally distracted...)
Twelve books. How hard could that be?

message 30: by Sylvia (new)

Sylvia (sylviahartstra) I'm joining this challenge for 2013 and will start with Pike's Peak. I loved to be here in 2012, although I can't really say I've seen my Mount TBR be much lower.

Hi Célia, first congrats with that new baby. Nice to meet you. I'm from Holland and like you I have a lot of books which desperately needed reading.

Diana Marques | Papéis e Letras (diana_papeiseletras) | 22 comments Hello everybody, I'm Diana from Portugal.
I don't own as many books as some of you here, but I already have more books to read on my shelves than those that I have read. Therefore, I think that this is a good challenge for me to diminish my pile of books.

I'm still a student and I'm finishing my MA dissertation, so I don't know how much time I will have for leisure reading, next year. That's why I'm aiming only for Pike's Peak and read 12 books that are already on my pile.

I'm excited about this! :)

message 37: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) I'm back!!
Great t see so many old and new faces.
I enjoyed last year's climb. The challenge didn't cause me too much stress and feel I have definitely made a (small) dent in my TBR.
I am going up Mount Blanc this year as I want to read some newer books too.

Célia wrote: "Since I don't know how much time I will have to spare to reading (a little baby is VERY time consuming), I will go to Mt. Vancouver...."
Once my children got to kindergarten and after-school activities I got back into reading as it was a fantastic way to pass all that time you have to spend waiting for them.

PS A question for the mods. Is it possible to add the number of books to the title of the challenge folders? My memory is pitiful and I keep forgetting how many books I have challenged myself to read.

message 38: by Susan (new)

Susan | 108 comments Hi, I'm excited to be participating as I have so many old books I'm afraid to count them. I've been working on reducing my piles and hope this challenge will keep me on track next year. I'm headed up Mt Vancouver. I plan to pick out what's next to read as I go and definitely read some non-fiction and biographies, including Turn Right at Machu Picchu, The Most Beautiful Walk in the World, and Moby Duck. Maybe the Grapes of Wrath, too, which has been on my list to read since high school.....

message 43: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Oakes (quinnsmom) My name is Nancy, and I'll be trying for Kilimanjaro.
I tried this last year via my reading journal blog and dive bombed because there were so many incredible books published in 2012 that the ones I was going to read from 2011 got pushed to the side. Anyway, I figure 60 is a good number, but I have a question -- If I somehow happen to read more, can I keep going?

Bettie: thank you for inviting me!

message 44: by Bev (new)

Bev | 328 comments Mod
Hi, Nancy! Yes, if you get your mountain climbed you can up your goal to the next level (or just keep climbing without a new goal)--without having to start over.

message 45: by Megan (new)

Megan My name is Megan. This is a great idea! I have just reorganised the piles of books I had waiting to be read in 2012, and when I saw how much dust they had collected I knew something had to be done!!! I am only aiming for 12 books this year - as I always over aim, and I'm trying to be a little more realistic. But you never know...is Mt Asoiring one of the peaks ;)

message 46: by Megan (new)

Megan WOOPS - a bit of a typo there - I meant Aspiring

Natasha (Vasilly) (vasilly) Hi everyone! I'm Natasha. I attempted the Mount TBR Challenge this year but I didn't accomplish as much as I wanted to. Hopefully by joining the group, I'll think about reading from my tbr pile more. I own around 700 books and probably 2/3 are unread. Most of them look really good so I'm going to try to climb the Mr. Ararat level. Good luck to everyone on their goals.

message 50: by Julia (new)

Julia (mizzelle) | 46 comments Hello all! I managed Pike's Peak this year, but I like a further challenge, so I've picked Mt Blanc. It'll be a good way to attack all the books I've acquired this year and maybe sprinkle in some of the older ones.

One question: do I need to sign up on your blog post as well, Bev?
