Vi | 2794 comments I can't believe it's December again! Where has the year gone off to?! How's your GR challenge? Have you completed it?

As always, please share the books you've just read, reading or about to read in December 2012.

P.S: I can't wait for December 21 2012.

Vi | 2794 comments I finished Azhwargal Ore Eliya Arimugam by Sujatha yesterday - a simple introduction to some of the greatest poets of Hindu Religion.

I'm planning to start (finally) Flame of Sevenwaters (Sevenwaters, #6) by Juliet Marillier . I'm a little too excited towards the book (I was hoping the wait would reduce but nope!). Marillier so far hasn't written anything that I haven't liked.

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 366 comments I'm reading A Novel Way to Die (Black Cat Bookshop Mystery, #2) by Ali Brandon and bought Running Wild (The Men from Battle Ridge, #1) by Linda Howard and Drive Me Wild (The Others, #7) by Christine Warren yesterday. If I manage to get all the decorating and cookie baking done in a reasonable amount of time (not to mention the beaded gifts), I may actually get to read these this month.

Christine (Cagnes) (cagnes) | 118 comments I'm reading Flame of Sevenwaters (Sevenwaters, #6) by Juliet Marillier & listening to Serpent's Kiss (Elder Races, #3) by Thea Harrison

message 5: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Oh Christine, I loved the sevenwaters book. It did take a while for the action to get going but I was hooked every bit of the book.I'm so looking forward to see how you enjoyed it.

message 6: by Juliet (new)

Well, I'm only about 20% into it & I'm hooked so far!

Did you read Twixt Firelight and Water A Tale of Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier ? I just finished it before starting this one & loved reading about Fiacha's story!

message 10: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments I just finished Just Good Friends (Escape to New Zealand) by Rosalind James and reading Reached (Matched, #3) by Ally Condie and Kushiel's Chosen (Phèdre's Trilogy #2) by Jacqueline Carey

message 11: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments No. I completely forgot about it! I have it on my e-reader and I'm going to read it next. I also have Shadowfell (Shadowfell, #1) by Juliet Marillier on my TBR next though I've heard it's not as good as her others. That is making me hesitate..

Vi | 2794 comments Dee, I hope you enjoy Kushiel's Chosen (Phèdre's Trilogy #2) by Jacqueline Carey . The second book suffers a bit from the middle book syndrome but the third book more than makes up for it. One of the my favorite trilogy of all time. :)

message 13: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments I've read The King of Attolia (The Queen's Thief, #3) by Megan Whalen Turner which was super awesome and just finished Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre which was good. I have the second book Wanderlust (Sirantha Jax, #2) by Ann Aguirre on hand and I'm thinking of starting that next.

I also want to read Shadowfell (Shadowfell, #1) by Juliet Marillier , hope to get to it soon.

I love The Queen's Thief series, recently read A Conspiracy of Kings (The Queen's Thief, #4) by Megan Whalen Turner . I enjoyed it, although it was my least favorite of the bunch.

i've had it on the pile for a while and just never picked it up...but it fits into a challenge for another group - so seemed like the right time

Vi | 2794 comments Oh, I've really enjoyed the Queen's Thief Series so far. The second and the third were really superb. I can't wait for the series to go back to Gen's POV.

Have you read info about it going back to Gen's POV, will it be the next book? I sure hope so, I love Gen!

message 19: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton by S.E. Hinton last night. This was my first time reading The Outsiders. I never managed to get around to reading it as a teenager but I've heard so many people say it is one of their favourite books so I thought it was about time that I read it finally. And now that I've finished the book I can't believe I waited so long! The Outsiders is a gripping and compelling read which is full of suspense. It was also extremely heart-breaking and touching at times. The novel is very well-written, considering S.E. Hinton was just seventeen years old when she wrote it. I was amazed with the amount of depth and layers in this book. It really is wonderful. Five stars!
My full review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Today I've started reading The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan by Charlotte Rogan.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 957 comments I'm halfway done with Sapphire Blue (The Ruby Red Trilogy, #2) by Kerstin Gier

message 21: by D.G. (last edited Dec 03, 2012 01:22PM) (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments I just finished Never Seduce a Scot (The Montgomerys and Armstrongs, #1) by Maya Banks which was just OK. I also hate titles that are a misnomer. There wasn't any seduction going on!

I'm listening to the latest audio version of Dracula by Bram Stoker and it's great so far. I can only imagine what an uproar that book made when it came out in 1897!

I'm also reading Lessons in French by Laura Kinsale , which is going great so far.

message 24: by Susana (new)

Susana (susana32) I have started a new paranormal series. Well is more of a contemporary one with paranormal thrills in it...it has that x-files" feeling to it. The characters are interesting and so far i'm hooked. So i've read the first Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1) by Karina Halle and now i'm about to finish Red Fox (Experiment in Terror, #2) by Karina Halle . One thing that i love about it, its that one can feel the development, of the story and of the characters.
I think i'm going to go with the flow, and read all the remaining volumes.
I'm also reading the historical romance/mystery A Body in the Bathhouse (Marcus Didius Falco, #13) by Lindsey Davis . I love the author's imagination and witty comments. Also Marcus Didius Falco, is one of my all time favorite characters. :)

message 25: by Davena (new)

Those books look really good! And I just checked Amazon and Dark House is free for Kindle. Thanks for mentioning them Susana!

I've also been meaning to start the Marcus Didious Falco series. I just added it to my wish list at Audible.

I had completely forgotten about the free download,(lol, apparently i eat a lot of cheese) regarding Darkhouse! It's a good way to get hooked into a good series!!

The Lindsey Davies series is one of my favorites, hope you'll enjoy it. :)

Well for you to see that i am really addicted to the series (lol), i have finished the second one Red Fox (Experiment in Terror, #2) by Karina Halle that was even better than the first; and now i am reading the short story that takes place before the third one The Benson (Experiment in Terror, #2.5) by Karina Halle (this one is available as a free download, on the authors page)...and since i couldn't resist Dex's pov, i've also started reading The Dex-Files (Experiment in Terror, #5.7) by Karina Halle , but so far i've only read the first short-stories in it, the ones that take place up until the second book.

Vi | 2794 comments I've been hibernating reading the Sirantha Jax series. The first book to me was the weakest but it did get so much better. I liked the way the series progressed and Jax's personal growth. I'll recommend it!

Another advantage for me: One series down! ;P

message 41: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan by Charlotte Rogan yesterday. The Lifeboat is the debut novel of author Charlotte Rogan. It is a compelling, gripping and extremely thought-provoking tale. This novel tells the story of survival at its most basic level. It explores human nature and morality. It shows what happens to people while they are fighting to stay alive. The novel is a psychological thriller really. The book is very well-written. I really loved the author's writing style. I was completely engrossed in this novel from the very first page. The way in which Charlotte Rogan describes the moral decisions the characters have to make is quiet chilling.
My full review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Now I'm halfway through I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella by Sophie Kinsella.

message 42: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i really liked The Lifeboat up until the end - how it was all tied together in a pretty bow just irked me

message 43: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments I've been on a Kristin Hannah binge for the past few days. I read 4 of hers back-to-back (:O) - Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah Home Front by Kristin Hannah Night Road by Kristin Hannah Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah . I liked all of them but Night Road was the most tear-jerker and Winter Garden was the least for me. While I admired Anya, I couldn't understand her motivations. The bits about Lenningrad during Stalin's rule was very heart-breaking.

I'm now thinking that I'll change genres - maybe read The Briar King (Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone, #1) by Greg Keyes or The Cloud Roads (Books of the Raksura, #1) by Martha Wells next.

message 44: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments have you read Firefly Lane Vi, or Summer Island - they were 2 tear-jerkers for me

message 45: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments I've read Firefly Lane based on a PIFM rec, Dee. If I remember right, you also recommended it in the same thread. :) I haven't read Summer Island though. I'll check if the library has it.

D.G. | 4477 comments I'm reading The Duchess War (Brothers Sinister, #1) by Courtney Milan which is going well so far and listening to the all cast version of Dracula (Audible Editions) by Bram Stoker , which has been so horrific and terrible! (in a good way_ I tell you, after listening to this book, it will take me a while to think of vampires as sexy.
