It’s true–Drew Barrymore is one the people being considered for the role of the director of Eclipse. She tells the AP–
The 34-year-old actress (”E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” the ”Charlie’s Angels” films) has confirmed that she’s being considered for ”Eclipse,” the third movie in the blockbuster teen vamp saga that launched with ”Twilight” last year.
”I’m one of the directors that is being talked about, which is great, because I’m a director now,” Barrymore said in a recent interview. ”But, you know, they’ll make their choice.”
Barrymore’s is finishing up her first movie as a director, which is called “Whip It!”, and it stars Ellen Page from Juno.

Finke writes on her blog that Juan Antonio Bayona is the name being confirmed behind closed doors by Summit Pictures, the studio behind the Twilight movies. We reported that rumor earlier in the week, pointing out that a vampire flick seems like a good match for Guillermo del Toro’s protégé. It sounds like he has the job locked up, at least secretly.
I’m a little surprised with the route Summit is taking with the Twilight franchise, dumping Catherine Hardwicke after her popularly received job directing the first movie. Now it sounds like her replacement, Chris Weitz, is only down for one movie as well. On one hand, it makes sense; Summit is interested in grinding these movies out quickly, and separate directors means each movie can move ahead in pre-production while the current movie is filming. On the other hand, there’s a lost sense of consistency when you shuffle directors as each one brings in their own unique style.
We’ll wait for the official word, but if Finke says Bayona is the man, it’s likely to be true.
UPDATE: This has now been confirmed in Variety, so here we go; three films, three directors.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Summit Entertainment is currently looking to secure a director for the third film in the Twilight franchise, ‘Eclipse’. Among those they are talking to? Drew Barrymore. Read more below:
As Summit Entertainment looks to lock in a director for the third installment of the Twilight series, Eclipse, the company is talking to a select group of directors — including actress-turned-helmer Drew Barrymore, EW has learned. While this news may come as a surprise to some, Barrymore did just finish work on her directorial debut, Whip It! starring Ellen Page. Neither Summit nor Barrymore’s reps would comment for this story.
