Great ideas! I would be willing to take on BOTM or wherever you need me. I have never done polls or read to reviews, but I am more than willing to learn and give it my best! Keep me posted on where I can help. I think this is definitely a step in the right direction! <3
These are fantastic ideas, and of course I can help out with some things. I can set up the read and review section and I don't mind running it if we keep it to once every couple of weeks I could handle that. If it does end up being more I would need to get help as I have a few of these programs running already and might run short on time.
(if it did get busier though I would probably have to hand it off to someone else). Or I can set it up and walk someone through if anyone is interested in handling it.
Also the monthly reading challenges do well in some groups too.
I would think about adding a authors corner section, maybe move things around in the group, example....follow me section then we can move all the twitter, facebook and bloggers in there own area.
Ok thats it for now I will try to think of some other ideas.
I can help Tana with the read and review section, I am also happy to assist with BOM and polls and such.

Why don't Tana and Alana tackle the RtR. I'll let you decide how often to do them, you could even do every three weeks so they don't overlap. If you can get a sign up thread ready, I'll include it in a message to the group with the big announcement :)
And Tina, if you could handle the BOTM that would be perfect. Set up a separate section and start a thread for January 2013 nominations, perhaps give everyone until the 15th to nominate books before we vote. I'll also link to that in the big announcement message :)
I'll change the group name and start creating threads for popular books :) And then I'll do the announcement once you guys are all ready.

Aww thank you!!! Like with many fan groups, we've struggled a little to keep the group active consistently, mostly because my books comes out every couple of months so there's a bit of buzz when I release a new book, but then it between things die down. So what I'm hoping everyone will do is really embrace the "new" group as another YA group that happens to be part of the fan group, and be really active. At least that's my nirvana goal for the group!! So yeah, I guess just being active will be AWESOME :) Thanks for everything, I'm so glad I met you!!

Thank you Tina!! I just checked and I think that group has already read The Moon Dwellers, but not The Star Dwellers yet, so they'll need to read that first. Would you mind changing the nom to The Star Dwellers? Sorry, my mistake, I forgot to check first!

I don't mind at all, I LOVE organization (I'm OCD remember :) Thank you! I'm going to prepare the broadcast to members right now! Thank you all for your help in reinventing the group so quickly, I'm hoping it'll be a huge success!
As soon as I send the broadcast message, we can start inviting our GRs friends to join. Make sure you tell them it's a YA Book Lover's group now, not just a fan group so ALL are welcome. Thanks everyone!

thats great, I am out of town just got to my hotel but this weekend I will send out a bunch of invites from my friends list.

its work... so just meetings for the next two days...lol but my hotel is nice and internet is free and seems to be working well lol..
I sent out 1000 invites hope that helps I had 1700 but I guess there is a limit on how many you can send.

Well, due to your amazing efforts to make this an awesome group, we are up to 357 members!!! Thank you so much for everything you do, being so friendly and welcoming, setting up Chapter a Day reads, and just generally making the group fun!!
The reason I created this thread is because I had an idea I want to discuss with all of you. It's something I think would make the group even better. I want it to be more than just a David Estes Fan Group. I want it to be about discussing YA books in general, almost like a combined fan group/YA Book Lovers group. We have enough members where I think this is possible, plus we might be able to attract and retain more members, even if they haven't read any of my books. Honestly, I don't care if people in the group read my books. It's really nice that most of them do, yeah, but I just love talking about books and meeting people, so the more members we can get, the better :)
What do you think? I don't want to rope any of you into anything if you think it'll be too much work to maintain, so let me know if I'm being way too ambitious, but I hope if we spread it out a little, it won't be too much different than it is now. OK, assuming you all think it's a good idea, here are the things I'd love your input in:
1) Group Name! I'm open to ideas, but here's my first attempt, pretty basic: David Estes Fans and YA Book Lovers
2) Discussion threads: As Nicole pointed out when I talked to her about this already, we need to keep it neat and organized, preferably by genre to make it easier to browse. We can start small by adding the first book in popular series and then expand as we grow. Would anyone be willing to tackle creating the first round of these?
3) Book of the Month! This is one of my favorite aspects of other YA groups. You get to read a book with a bunch of friends. We'd have to have nominations each month and then voting. Depending on how fast I write, we could have one of my books automatically as one and then another YA book that the group votes for. Ideally, one of us would manage this every month. Anyone want to be the BOTM guru? January could be the first one, so we could take noms for a week or so and then create a pole to vote.
4) Read to Reviews- this might be a bit aspirational, but we definitely have a number of self-pubbed authors in the group who we should be supporting. It's also a great way to give our valued members a chance to read awesome free books in exchange for their reviews. As Tana can tell us all, it's a bit of work to manage, but I think if we only open it up to one every two weeks with reviews required within 3 weeks it could be manageable. Plus we don't know how many authors will sign up, there may be none! But it would nice to give them that option. What do you all think? Would anyone want to run with this?
5. Last but not least, getting the word out. Once we've transformed the group, I'd love to do a huge push at the start of the new year to get new members. If each of us invite our friends to join, and then request that current members do the same, I think we could push the membership up in a big way and really set the group on fire!
That's all I had, but I'd definitely be open to all your awesome ideas too!! Can't wait to hear what you think!!
