Rebecca Berto (rebeccaberto) Game: I know some people have their drug book genre of choice but I have a few favourites. I love romance, new adult, young adult, literary, dark and contemporary. Although I put Precise (Pulling Me Under # 1) by Rebecca Berto as the book's discussion topic, I just used it as an example because I love literary books (can be slow building and give you a feel as well as a lasting message) but I love romance and reading about developing people as new adult does, which is what this book is about.

Basically, I'm a cross-book junkie who loves many types of books.

What is your drug book genre of choice?

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) I like 'em all! I trend toward YA urban fantasy, dark fantasy, thrillers, suspense, PNR...and mysteries, romance and horror are always good, too.

I love watching kids grow up, and develop, like you said. Especially in a series like Harry Potter where it takes you from tween to young adult.

I tend to lean toward realistic YA (the kind that's about real teen problems [Speak, A Swift Pure Cry, A Step from Heaven, etc]), instead of Paranormal Romance or Urban Fantasy. They generally don't appeal to me. I also like a lot of classic literature.

I find it weird that I don't read fantasy anymore. I loved Harry Potter growing up. I think I'm too mushy inside. I always go for a sexy/romantic storyline. Muahaha.

I love watching characters grow up, as you said, Dale. I feel like they become my real friends.

Realistic/Contemporary YA is probably my favourite. The books deal with real problems us everyday people go through. For me (like you, I s'pose) it's easy to relate to and easy to get into the story.

I've been meaning to read more classics, though. Much to learn from.

I have stacks of books in my room of books I picked up from book sales and used book shops that I've been meaning to read, most of them of the "classic literature" category.

Speaking of which, I just went to a book sale today! Got The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis The Silent Angel by Heinrich Böll Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Moby-Dick by Herman Melville The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald Emma by Jane Austen Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy ....so, yeah, I now have even more classics that I own-but-have-yet-to-read. *Sigh...

I have lots to read of these. I've read P&P (thank God!) and The Great Gatsby. The Great Gatsby is one of my all-time favs. I mean, how on earth did he write such a good book in half the amount of words most novels take? I seriously was as invested in that book as my fav 300-400-page novels.

So. Yeah. We have lots of reading to do!

I think I like you a little bit, Martha.

Jazzabella ~*~ Catherine~*~ (jazzabella) | 5 comments I just love books in general :) anything that can catch my attention and let me experience something else. Mostly I read anything YA but I also enjoy the occasional break into something else.

Can I refer a book? There's this cont. YA book I loveeee. She's an Australian author and the book is her first and has won multiple awards. It's a definite must read: All I Ever Wanted by Vikki Wakefield

That does sound like it would be a good read. Being an Aussie myself I like supporting Australian authors where I can :)

Yay! I hope you like it. Vikki Wakefield, the author, has a second book out now and the writing is even better. I hope she makes it in the US.

Hud-c | 237 comments What is your drug book genre of choice?

That's a difficult question to answer... but based on my experience, I tend to lean on the mystery genre - (detective/crime fiction, thrillers, horror). Its quite a loosely defined word. That goes for other genres tho. But I also love YA, SF, paranormal (vampires), fantasy etc. I tend to try different kinds of genre from time to time. It doesn't hurt to read something new or out of the box.

I've been trying to widen my reading types. I haven't read a mystery or thriller in way too long. There are so many amazing indie romance books being published all the time it's hard to get through those to get onto others! lol

Come to think of it, I haven't read pure romance in a very long time, too. My YA choices are oftentimes fantasy, paranormal, supernatural... I haven't pick a pure romance book.

Great thing, you point that out. :D

Tiffany McFly (tiffmcfly) @Faize--definitely read The Great Gatsby some time soon. It's amazing!

As pour moi, I've come to realize that I'm a genre-junkie when it comes to memoirs or reality fiction. But specifically more towards the ones with darker subject matter.

I'm also a junkie for books written in dialect; Sorry, I never know how to describe them. Like, I'm addicted to reading Irvine Welsh books because I really love how he writes out each of his characters' Scottish slang/dialect.

We're sorta opposites in reading styles. You make me aspire to widen my range. LOL

Agreed. I don't read much of the romance genre because I find love cliche. Hahahaha... it hits right at home, ouch. :P

Anyway, most of the books I've read I learned from talking to people online or some stranger in a bookstore - the store-owner, the shelf-browser, or from someone drinking coffee in my fave coffee-shop. I just felt amaze that I actually known some books from those kind of people. So I realize, sometimes its good to be influence by others to try out something - something out of your comfort zone or some unfamiliar grounds. Now, I'm babbling, sorry 'bout that. :)

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I go through phases where I prefer one genre over another. Right now I am attracted to Historical Fiction. Next, I feel an infatuation with Young Adult coming on!
