So after a year and a half of work, my illustrated, read-aloud, digital children's book is available on the iTunes Bookstore worldwide (except Japan where I live cuz Apple hasn't gotten its act together yet) and it has sold a few copies in six different countries. Now here's my problem... independent publisher, original digital book, great individual reviews (the kids love it).... but I feel like a tiny "Who-vian" perched on a flower puff, yelling at the top of my lungs into the ear of the giant publishing/reviewing elephant. Who is going to hear my tiny voice?
So far I have... created a website, Facebook and twitter accounts for the book, contacted prominent kid lit bloggers, tried to find ebook reviewers, sent messages to LinkedIn, Facebook and email contacts, and created a press release with no clue what to do with it. I intend to start posting to Pinterest since the book has incredible illustrations.
Any advice? Where are the eBook reviewers? What do I do with a press release? Who has big enough ears to hear my voice?
Here are a few words from one group of kid reviewers:
“The animals are cute and funny. So much detail! I think this book is hilarious in the pictures.” – Eryn Mae “I like the pictures, especially the one with the animals ready to fight. The wording is good.” – Tai “Pretty; kind of like a poem; like a song. Like someone is really telling the story. It’s funny and it rhymes.” – Grace “I like it that it had colors that match the pictures. I like it that there are a lot of details in the pictures. The words were good because it had good details and it explained things well.” – Reeko
I look forward to hearing from the NaNoWriMo support group! - Ruth
Thanks for the input! I am already a member of the Tokyo chapter of SCBWI. Our local libraries serve the Japanese-speaking public, but if my Japanese language skills improve, that might be an option. If I eventually come out with a print version, I think my promotion options will expand. Being in Japan does limit me somewhat, though, in terms of school visits, etc. :)
