Please tell us your favourite books from our period (either fiction or non-fiction) that are written in the form of letters or diary entries.

The Ginger Tree by Oswald Wynd The Ginger Tree by Oswald Wynd

This is the fictional account of a young woman's life. She's a scottish girl called Mary McKenzie who we first meet in 1903 when she's en route to Peking to marry her military attache husband. Her life takes some surprising twists and turns and she ends up living most of her life in Japan during a period of great turmoil. I found it hard to believe this was a fictional account as the main character and her friends and family appeared so real to me. I'd highly recommend it!

I've recently started Clara Callan by Richard B. Wright. It's written both in letters between sisters and the diary entries of one of the sisters. So far, it's good.
