I say its having on of three things...
Relatability! Someone you can relate to and associate yourself in their place.
Uniqueness! Someone like no other. Someone who stands away from the pack.
Root Factor! someone you can cheer for/root against.

authors spend to much time writing about the archetypes and enough making the characters there own person.
I think every character you create is good character. They always have something that's as you said unique. It's like a gift.
For example I'll use the characters you created in the Rps:
Richard David Cole, institution roleplay, insane and hilarious dude who wants to interact with people not for his benefit but theirs. Because he is soooo great.
"Jackie" Jackson, Angel Roleplay, He's sounds like he's been bored most of his life and uses humans for entertainment. He also sounds like an alcoholic and very angry.
Lastly we have Curtis "Silver" Bronson who is like the mixture of the Westboro Baptist Church and the Third Reich. Completely insane and pushes the edges of brutality.

Um... Thank you? lol
Okay I have to say I love this line, "Lastly we have Curtis "Silver" Bronson who is like the mixture of the Westboro Baptist Church and the Third Reich. Completely insane and pushes the edges of brutality."

You're welcome. But seriously I've also read a lot of your writing. You have a talent of making characters.
