Hi Connie. Welcome to the group.

Ava Catherine Thank you. Since I live in the southern United States, I thought this would be an excellent way to learn about Canada. My husband and I are also planning to travel to Canada soon. I am really excited about the challenge! : )

You're welcome. What part of Canada are you going to?

message 5: by Ava Catherine (last edited Dec 13, 2012 07:14PM) (new)

Ava Catherine Prince Edward Island... to begin with. On a later vacation, we would like to go to British Columbia. : )

message 6: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Welcome Connie. The burning question is... how many of these will you fit into your alphabet challenge?

If you ever decide to come to Alberta in your travels, you'll have to give me a call. :)

Ava Catherine I am hoping to have some crossover to the alphabet challenge. : )
Maybe (someday) we will be able to get to Alberta. Who knows? If we ever do, I shall certainly call you and say hello!
From all the photos I have seen and books I have read describing the area, Canada is such a beautiful country. You are fortunate to live in an area of such extreme beauty. Nothing beats nature's beauty!
: )

Janice (jamasc) The scenery in the States is nothing to sneeze at either. We both have such diversity - mountains, lakes, ocean, plains, forests, prairies, deserts.

When we were in St Maarten, we got sucked into listening to a time-share presentation. The saleswoman said that everyone wants to go to the Caribbean and nobody wants to go to Canada. She got an earfull of all the diversity that Canada has to offer. I asked, "What do you have here but the ocean and water sports?" Did I mention that she lost a sale that day? LOL!

Autumn Janice, best story ever. :D

Autumn Welcome Connie! I live in New Brunswick, if you want to pay the toll to cross the infamous bridge when you visit PEI, please let me know!

Yeah, that was a pretty good story Janice told. :)

message 12: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine Autumn, I am going to have to check out New Brunswick. I want to see as much as possible. I will be certain to give a shout out to you! ; )

Janice, I love your story! Obviously, the saleslady had never been to Canada and lives a very limited life if she only sits by the ocean and builds sand castles! LOL! Although the sun and sand are glorious, there are other beautiful areas to visit. Some people live all their lives with blinders on. Sad!

Laurel (goodreadscomboddy_l) | 37 comments Connie, you are going to laugh at this. I sent you a fairly long message, which you did not receive because I sent it to the other Connie in this group! The other Connie kindly posted me about my error, and here I am. I have joined this group, and spent most of tonight choosing books and posting them in my list. I decided to do 13 books as my goal, since I am doing other challenges too. I will have to check out your list, since it was the other Connie's that I looked at earlier. But I did make a new friend- the other Connie. Fortunately, I know your profile pic, so won't mix you up again. I hope!

Laurel, I kept mixing them up at first, too.

Thanks, Melissa. I feel better!

Janice (jamasc) I'm so glad you've joined us Laurel. Just hope the two Connie's don't change their avatar. Hehehe!

Me, too! Thanks for putting out the welcome mat. I appreciate it. I think this challenge will be fun. I have to create a spot to keep track of all of the books I have to read for different challenges and group reads. I MUST stop joining groups!

message 18: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I have (in addition to my spreadsheets) a shelf for each challenge. I can tell you of a couple other groups you might be interested in (little devil on my shoulder). There's You'll Love This One which has a year long challenge based on the alphabet, and Around the World in 52 Books. Just click on my avatar and you can easily find the groups on my profile.

I am so nerdy I created an around the world challenge for myself, before I discovered the group one! I am doing a Road Trip USA one, and a Read the decade challenge- 2 books published in each year between 2013 & 2004, plus the regular GR challenge for the year. Then I added the Canadian one, plus an ABC one. I think I need my head examined! I will take a look at yours! Thanks!

message 20: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) LOL! I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew with 3 big challenges plus the smaller monthly challenges.

I had actually thought a challenge of reading by the decade might be fun for myself, but that'll have to wait until things settle down some for me.
