Taking Chances discussion

ok, lets make a list of all the reasons that this book was bad. i will start us off. CHASE DIES.

how horrible they treat him after his death like he was nothing!!! UNCLE CHASE REALLY!!!!

What really bothered me was the way everyone was so accepting of his death. I mean even his parents and then they are practically salivating to get her together with Brandon barely after the funeral. I enjoyed the story but like many love triangles I was waiting for either Chase or Brandon to do something unforgivable so we as readers would find the other character more appropriate for Harper. But by killing one, it was like killing me...

thats exactly how i felt! it was terrible! like Bree was telling Harper to get over chass's death. i was like HELLO he's your brother! that book was more than a love triangle. it was a love square! harper had brandon, chase, and jason (who she also treated like dirt. i mean she didn't even give him a chance...)

I dont know if i should read this book, i want to but my friend told me what happens (yes we spoil books for eachother) but after she tells me he dies i just dont know if i cant put myself though that? is it a good enough read to where i should or is it so depressing its enough to just hear about it?

To me I felt I shouldn't have read it,I would rather have not read out that heartbreaking,I felt like I knew chase and he was my love and I lost him,(crazy I know but I couldn't stop the tears)

And Vee who is Jason,maybe I forgot, but was he a main character?

well she reffered to him as carter in the begining, it was her guy friend that lived on the base. then after he came to cali to admit his feeling for her, they got in that fight ya know? then after chase died she only called him jason (his first name).
And don't worry i totally get you! i couldn't stop crying either!! it was right before we went out to eat to..soo, i was like wtf? really, the worst part, before dinner? anyways, i had this big ache in my chest, and i just felt horrible and i couldn't stop thinking about it! it was terrible!!

Not at all.. Harper was such a whiney thing. She really never deserved Chase or Brandon. I also always felt the end was too cheesy!! yea uncle Chase? and then that crap she pulls by running away? come on!! and then I felt she got over Chase way too fast!!

hah yes!!!!! yes!!! like really, what are you 12? your pregnant and your running away? and i hate how she barely feels bad about cheating on Brandon. like errrrrr, shes sooo dumb. i thought the uncle chase was a stupid too. like if i were her i would be efffing balling my eyes out for the rest of my life. ya the end was cheesy. also i think they moved to fast... like chase dies, shes back with brandon, they have the baby, then get married, then shes preg...again. like whoa, slow down there.

o yea her military friend, the way Ms. Mc adams, brought him in and described him in the beginning i swear i thought that he was going to be her love interest, the way she talked to him and talked about him. but she did treat him like crap even after he went to live where she was.

thats what i thought! like, she was totally leading him on through the texts, with all the :) and ;) faces, and the "i miss you"'s. ugh she just needs to get her guys straight.

yea i don't think i could have moved on like Harper i would be depressed for so long but tried to be ok for our baby, but she was ok and then got into the relationship with Brandon like nothing!! really Harper did u not love chase, poor guy died trying to prove he would never hurt her and that he loved her, and she didn't even care, after finding out something happened from his sister her first thought was please say brandon is ok, really!??!! Chase left the house trying to prove to you he's a good guy and your first thought was of another guy!! uh that was infuriating!!!

i knoww!!! that really pissed me off!!! like you stupid stupid girl. chase loves you, why can't you see that? then he died thinking she didn't love him. and you don't just have sex with chase, and then be like "well i still like brandon, soo this isn't goonna work out". ughhhh i hateeed that! when chase was first introduced, i was like, yep shes gonna end up with the bad bou (i was excited for that). then she falls in love, like actual love, right when she meets brandon. like WTF. you just met him. ughhhhhhhhh

your are cracking me up!!! yup.. Chase changed so much for her!! WTF. Then Brandons mom just forgives her like nothing. Hello she lost her virginity to Chase after Brandon put in all that time. hahaha

Aside from chase dying, the entire dynamic of Harper's character.. from innocent sweetheart to this, hate to say it, but SLUT!!! I could barely finish it, when she got pregnant, I stopped reading, but I finished it eventually. Am I the only one who felt this way?

I hear ya brenda, chase went from "one-night stander, alcoholic, hold-girls-wrists-to-tightly-kind of guy" to a mature young adult who was excited about the baby! (about that- chase didn't even seemed surprised that he got her pregnant, i was like...um ok. your life is over now, and your not-girlfriend is pregs- oh well though). and even when she was with chase she was still like, oh i LOVE brandon stlil...like get over it bitch, you effed that up.

i thought her role was pretty predictable too... i'm not saying all home schoolers are like this, but the 3 i've met from my school went from being super religious to party-aholics (it's like "welcome to the real world"). and no your not the only one who felt like this. it took me a couple days to pick it up to TRY and read it. i only skimmed the ending.

come to think about it your right he wasn't really surprised he got her preggers, but she's the idiot who didn't think "hey we need protection, I'm a virgin so i don't have birth control" uh still chase was way too good for her!!!

she tried to play the innocent one but really after so much of being with Brandon in his bed night after night and never having sex yet she spends one day with chase and she drops trousers like nothing come on, so not innocent!!!

Then can anyone explain the whole Brandon fighting scene at the end? didn't get it at all. I heard this authors new book is also so so like this. Honestly the first half of the book felt like 'THOUGHTLESS" and 'BEAUTIFUL DISASTER" got married and made TAKING CHANCES.

the first half was exactly like beautiful disater. she meets chase (travis) he's the one-nighter type of guy, but loves her and wants to change to be with her. then you have brandon (parker) the one who will wait "until she's ready" and blah blah blah

Yep then moly kills the bad boy!! Really the bad boy the one mostly everyone would love the most!!! Who doesn't love a tattooed bad boy fighter with a sweetheart that changes his ways for the one he loves!!

This book just about killed me after Chase died..I will never understand the authors reasoning on killing him off like that. Just wrong..smh

She practically turned Chase's kid into Brandon's. I get the last name, but Liam? Really??! It's not Brandon's kid. He doesn't get to name Chase's kid after his dad. That's just wrong on so many different levels.

I completely agree the best name should have been i don't know maybe the baby dad who just died trying to prove he loved Harper, HELLO!!!!!! But i think the baby should of had chase last name it wasn't Brandon baby he shouldn't have his last name especially since they are supposed to make sure to keep CHASES memory alive by telling the kid about his dad!!! Not UNCLE CHASE!!!

OH MY GOD. i completely forgot to rant about that!!!! SO STUPID. like if my baby daddy died. the baby would get at LLEAST AT LEAST chases first name! liike come on now...just because chase's dead doesen't mean he isn't the dad. i totes agree with you guys on this one. UGHHHH fricken harper.

lol it's okay, this story just sucked. I was so shocked when I read about Chase's death, I didn't really pay attention to how bad it was. I actually loved it because it got so much emotion out of me. Now, 2 months later, I find myself realizing how bad it was and I can't believe I wasted my time on reading it. There was just too much wrong with the story. But after a few great reads (like The Edge of Never) I'm over it now lol. Gotta read books like this to be able to appreciate the better books!

I don't know what kind of books you like to read, but this is the kind of book I would recommend to everyone. So yeah, you should definitely read it!

Wow I wish I would have found this web site and read the reviews before I read this book. I am still upset over the death of Chase! I HATE books like this. Hate it!!

I can not get over this either! It just stuck with me and left me with a HORRIBLE HEARTACHE! I am so sorry I read it! POOR CHASE. What was the point of his death anyway?

Thats what i was wondering!!! she just needed to get rid of one of the guys from the love triangle, so she thought "hmm i guess i will just kill chase" like what?!!! you can't do that! :(

I did not like what happened to Chase. Just not my kind of book. Leaves me feeling too depressed. I can't do ugly cry sad!
