Brad Simmons | 5 comments 1) Leverage is more than high school football. It has a lot of drama with the main character Kurt who comes from a foster home and is adopted to play football at the local powerhouse high school. He makes an unlikely friend Danny who is from the gymnastics team and in the end they both have a difficult decision to face when it comes to their sport careers and the football teams success.
2) I would give this book 5 stars. I really liked it and wasn't the typical sports book I read about football. It threw in a whole different controversy with the gymnastics' team. Had a different perspective of high school sports thrown at me yet again.
3) The book has a lot of secrets and things that are hidden within teams and friends and the school. everybody is always to scared to speak out against until the Kurt speaks out to Danny and says "Being a hero usually isn't much fun. It's terrifying, most of the time, right up until the point you make it out safe. It's being scared to do the right thing and doing it anyway" (Cohen 283). It gives Danny the courage to speak out with Kurt and let the world know what happened to their friend Ronnie because of the captains of the football team.
4)The book gives a lot of Pathos, even right above with the quote form Kurt, it gave him credibility and want to make a difference kind of like a shot of courage and adrenaline through someone's words.
5) I would recommend this book to any athlete in high school or out of it. Even coaches would love this book because it has a lot of relation of what can actually happen in sports and even in high school and college where most of this is actually found out in.
