2013 Create-Your-Own Reading Challenge

With the year ending, most of us have started looking forward to the new year and have some reading goals we really want to reach.

This is the place to Create-Your-Own-Reading Challenge for 2013.

I've used the acronym SMART to explain how you can put yours together.

SPECIFIC - Sure we have goals and resolutions, but for this challenge you need to be specific on what you will read. Are you going for all classics, books of a specific author, books you already own, etc? You set the parameters, but make sure there is one.

MEASURABLE - Please don't say as many as I can read, please :). Knowing the titles in advance is not required, but you need to put a number of books as your goal. This is a requirement to participate in this challenge.

ATTAINABLE - Be realistic for this challenge. I know how we can go overboard, but you know, how many hours you read in a day. Do not set yourself up to fail. On this note, you are only allowed to have one Create-Your-Own Reading Challenge entry.

REWARDING - A tenet I follow everytime I create and/or join a challenge, is that it should be fun. This is not a punishment, but an activity that you really want to do. You get a better chance of completing it, if you are enjoying yourself.

TIME-BOUND - This challenge is good for the whole year. If you want to set a different start and end date, its up to you, but make sure I can see the duration period of your challenge.

Challenge Title: Big Book TBR Removal Project

Challenge Description: As I was sorting my TBR shelf for the new year, I noticed I have quite a few big books I keep putting off simply because of their size. This year, I’m aiming to remove as many of these as I can. I am doubling up with the Chubby Chunkster challenge, but for that challenge books must have 450+ pages and my mental cut-off is 400. These challenges look awesome! I have to revisit mine from last year as I did not finish my version of CLEAR THE FLOOR!

Good luck everyone! I will check in regularly - and post my own challenge as well.

I really failed at this challenge last year. The arrival of my tablet and its kindle app kept me downloading new books instead of reading my previous ones. I NEED to work harder on this challenge, so I am repeating it this year. I am sure I have put even more books in my closet, and will add them as I come across them!

Books are an awful lot like bunnies! Apparently they multiply while sitting all by themselves in a basket - who knew?
I will increase my goal to 55, even though I think the basket will continue to multiply.

My book basket has overflown to take over my reading corner. This year I challenge myself to clear up this corner by reading the books and either returning them or passing them on to someone else. I don't really have an exact number, but maybe aroun 150 novel-type books, and about 150 more that include cookbooks, fitness books, self-help books, textbooks, etc...

I do have about 300 that I have read, or reread in many cases.
On one hand I don't like having this many unread books, but on the other, I like the idea that when I am looking to read something, I have the option to go to my library and pick either a book I have read, or one that I haven't.
I read fast, but I also buy books all the time, so keeping up sometimes can be a challenge. So when I created this one, I was also thinking about other challenges and stuff like that.
Sorry, sometimes when I start talking (or typing as the case may be) I can't seem to shut up :))

Love it!! Glad to know I am not the only one with that many books (or who rattles on at times!). My goal is to whittle down my to read pile - but there are SO many good books calling my name every time I enter a store!

Thanks Nicola! I have to admit, I did buy lots of new books while cleaning up my tbr pile, so I think I'll have to do another round:) I have so many unread books at home, and always end up buying more:))
