Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I started listening to To Wed a Wicked Earl (Devine & Friends, #2) by Olivia Parker . And I'm re-reading The Witch and the Warrior (Warriors, #2) by Karyn Monk .

I need to get back to The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss . Still haven't finished that from last year. Wow. That feels weird to say.

I've listened to 30% or so and the heroine is still another man's mistress and she enjoys their relationship and she sits on his lap in front of the hero and even in one scene the hero saw them making out! I'm not sure how I feel about this.

It's not a love triangle, she just enjoys the sex and she is a courtesan. Really weird

message 18: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments I'm confused. So he didn't know she was a courtesan beforehand? Or he knew but expected her to be "pure"? Or you object to the heroine enjoying sex for the sake of sex, not just for love? Or you don't object, but aren't used to it in historicals? Lol, sorry, my head is playing catch-up today.

message 19: by Susan (susayq ~), Moderator (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 6062 comments It's that she's sitting on someone other than the hero's lap and enjoying sex without the hero, isn't it? I have a HUGE problem with that too. Grrrr, and I want to read this book and like it.

message 20: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments Oh, ok. I don't really have a problem with that personally, lol, it's actually made me curious to read the book now :-) Because wouldn't it be worse if she were a courtesan and didn't enjoy sex? lol, now that would be a tragedy! I'm interested to read a historical book where the usual sexual trope of man=sexually experienced with anything in skirts + woman= innocent as the driven snow but the hero "awakens" her sexuality, is set on its ear.
But I'm in the middle of one of those now, so I may be a little cynical on this at the moment. :-)

I don't object just that I'm not used to it, and the H & H are not together, they just meet in a gambling club, she sits on his protector lap , while the men play. Usually even if the heroine is a courtesan or the hero is a ladies man (?!) they don't sleep with anyone else after they meet each other. But He saw her making out with this other guy and was turned on. Unusual

It's the most unconventional HR I've ever read but totally worth reading. At moments it was really weird but I really enjoyed reading it

I'm wondering the same thing. But if this author can do it, I'll read everything she wrote cause she'll have to be amazing!

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Dawn (Kat N Hat) wrote: "How do you make possums sexy?"

IDK but sounds pretty gross to me...Possums are nasty gross animals anyways. I don't think they could be sexy when they aren't even cute to begin with.

That is sad but I have no sympathy for possums.
