Ooh, I second the Count of Monte Cristo. This has been on my TBR pile forever.

So many good picks here! I think right now Villette by Charlotte Brontë looks like my #1I already Les Mis and it is very good. I can't wait to see the movie!

Well really! The Forsyth Saga, the Count of Monte Cristo and Gone With the Wind are all high up on my to-read list. I read Les Mis last year, it is phenomenal, one of the best books I have ever read. It's going to be hard choosing among these nominations:)

Gone with the Wind has come close to winning several times but it always falls short by a couple of votes. Maybe if it is not picked again we could do it as a side read.
So many great choices. I can't wait to see which one will top the poll. Either way I know I won't be disappointed. I was actually torn between The Count of Monte Cristo, Les Mis, and Gone With the Wind when I was nominating my choice.

I'm torn on Les Mis because I want to see the movie in the theater so that means I'm probably not going to want to read it right away.

You are the only other Jolene I have seen on GR too!
I have seen Les Mis as a broadway play but have never seen Gone With The Wind so that's my preference.
I saw the Broadway play a long time ago and I have to admit, I think that I fell asleep because I didn't know anything about the story and couldn't understand all the singing (I was also jet-lagged at the time).

Oh my! Those are all great and I've never read any of them! I gave no idea how I'll vote! This could be our classic reading list for the year and I think I'd be happy

I agree that this is an excellent list. I am not even sure now which one that I want to read!
I have Ulysses, Villette, and Gone with the Wind. Hopefully, it will be one of those because I need to chill out on my book buying for a while.

Crazy how many books you can buy isn't it?? Too many good ones staring at you when you go to the bookstore!
We could pick the top 2-3 as the next couple of reads. We can read them in order of highest votes! What do you guys think?

I hate to be a naysayer but for me, my choice of reading material depends a lot on my mood and other factors going on in my life. Since we're reading chunksters, we'd be picking books #2 and #3 months and months in advance. So I'd prefer to wait and choose a book closer to the time of actually reading it.
I agree, but if we go this route, let's make sure that we get all of our nominations in play for the year. Readers tend to be fickle people - ha ha - only because we get easily distracted by shiny new objects.

I like this idea. I've noticed the same books keep getting nominated, so let's read them all - one at a time, of course!

I'm open to whatever you guys want to do. Ellen, I understand what you are saying and I didi think of that when I made the suggestion. I was thinking that so many books are repeat nominations that it might work okay.
Name of the rose has been on my TBR list for over a year.
Really I am happy either way, but these are all works I really want to read. I think that it might be nice to know the next 2 or 3 just so I could plan better because sometimes I coordinate these reads with one of my friends
Today's the last day to nominate, so get your favorites in! I will post a poll on Thursday so we can vote.For this round let's just vote for our next read, Andrea, Loretta and I will work out a method for this other idea and post polls and discussions for it as we get the ideas more filled out.
