Jensownzoo | 338 comments I read a lot of short-story anthologies when I was in school because of the time-crunch issue. Along that vein, you shouldn't have too much trouble with the Sandman stuff (which is awesome).

message 3: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Updated! \o/

Carol (caroldias) growing... outch... one more

Carol (caroldias) I was trying to go 50 books this year, but seems it will be impossible :( I´ll need to read a lot July (vacation) to reach my goal

31. I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
32. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
33. Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown

message 7: by Corinna (new)

Corinna (coekoemo) | 40 comments Your list looks really good. I've been holding off reading the Twilight series, but so many people are reading it, there must be something to it.... hm.
Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice are definitely on my list for this year though.

message 8: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Go on and be happy with Twilight *_* It´s lovely!

message 9: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I have to say that there is no way you read Midnight Sun since it is not out yet....there is the first 12 chapters online but she has not finished to book yet. Did you mean New Moon....that is the second book in the series and I didn't see it on your list

yeah, read Twilight! It is totally addicting.

Midnight Sun can still be counted as a book, unfinished or not, really. Most people count it as one since it is listed as a GR book.

message 12: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) Was kind of wondering if she meant New Moon since that one in not listed and she finished the rest of the series.

I don't count a book as being read until you read the whole thing.

message 13: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Well, actually I read the whole thing that exists lol scream with Stephenie Meyer for more :)

message 14: by Corinna (last edited Apr 15, 2009 12:47PM) (new)

Corinna (coekoemo) | 40 comments Allison and Carol, well.... I got the audio book of twilight from a friend this weekend. I started listening to it on the train and finished the first cd but I just don't see the thrill yet.
I'll see. I'm not into audio books aniyway, but since I do not want to start reading yet another book before I finished either the TindrummThe Tin Drum or Wuthering Heights audio will have to do for now... IF I go on listening to it.

How did you like Wuthering Heights by the way, was it your first time reading it? It is for me and I must say it is quite a slow read and I kind of regret picking up the english copy...

message 15: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Ohhh the English copy was REALLY hard for me to read! Sometime I had to pick the Portuguese copy I have at home to be sure what Emily meant lol

But, in the end, I loved it. It´s not the fastest reading you´ll find... but I think it´s worth it :)
The script is very dramatic, the characters are all suffering, and Heathcliff is quite charming haha

About the Twilight.. outch, I can´t even IMAGINE to listen to a Twilight audiobook!! Seems like a sin for me. It is a book easy to read, so it really flows, you don´t even notice your eyes actually reading it, you just follow the story. And I can´t imagine someone reading Edward lines without being, well, Edward haha

message 16: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I agree that Stephanie needs to finish the book....I kind of regret reading what is online because I want more! He is one of those characters that you can't get enough of. I completely agree with the audio book. i think everyone has there own idea of what he should sound like and that is what you hear when you read his lines.

Wuthering Heights is a great book! It is really slow getting into it, but a great story once you do!!!!!

message 17: by Corinna (new)

Corinna (coekoemo) | 40 comments I know, as I said I'm not into audio books anyway. I'll see. I have so many books at home I want to read, so it would be ages before I have the chance to start Twilight.
Maybe I'll just give the audio book another chance...

Regarding Wuthering Heights, I know what you mean Carol. The story is indeed interesting. I guess I'm just impatient, especially since i do not have as much time to read as I would like and I feel the book is not the best choice now that it is getting all sunny outside ;o)

message 18: by Jen (new)

I just want to say the Wuthering Heights is one of my all time favorite books! I know it is slow by once you get into it you fly through the rest of the book. The Characters are so different from most books you read. It is one of those books that when I am running low on books to read I reread.

message 19: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Yes, I´ll sure reread Wuthering Height some time soon. I think the 2nd time I read it I´ll enjoy it even more lol

And Jen, we shoul screm with Stephenie Meyer together them lol Edward is the best character and Midnight Sun would be the best book of the series for me, for sure. It´s amazing to read the other side of the story, less annoyed and crazy than Bella side lol

I know what you mean about the sunny part lol My mom was shouting at me "read it! read it now!" but sometimes you just need to do something outside with your free time lol But that´s why sleep-time exist LOL

message 20: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I like to read outside when the weather is nice. I don't know why, but it makes it better.

I know what you mean Carol. Bella started to annoy me by the end of the second book. She is one of those characters that you can only stand when there are other people around that take away from her.

message 21: by Carol (last edited Apr 16, 2009 07:57AM) (new)

Carol (caroldias) Ahahah something like that. She doesn´t annoy ME, but I know she is annoying lol I think it´s cute the way she sees thinks, but after reading Midnight Sun I saw how she was wrong, like, ALL the time haha

message 22: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) haha... yeah very true. Did you read New Moon? I didn't see it on your list

message 23: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Yes I did, but I read it last year so doesn´t fit here.
I read once after the other like a crazy person lol Eclipse was released here in Brazil only Jan 16, was like a torture and I kept reading Twilight over and over again, waiting for Eclipse. New Moon it´s... bleh, don´t like it that much.. I´ll re-read it eventually, but I´ll skip the "werewolf crap" lol

The Breaking Dawn I read in the internet, total ilegal I know, but... c´mon, they will release here in Brazil in June/July! Can you imagine waiting THAT long? haha

message 24: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) June/July that is horrible!!!! I agree about New Moon. My favorite was Eclipes, Twilight, New Moon then Breaking Dawn. I know what you mean about reading them over and over waiting for the next one to come out.

message 25: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) I didn´t like Breaking Dawn? Ahh.. that´s sad! I could burn the Jacob part, but I liked it!
And Eclipse, you favorite? nooo way lol Bella looks like a whore in this books, smooching everybody haha despite, like always, the end is really great and the way Edward behave is incredible too. But I think they gave something to Bella drink in this book haha
Probably my favorite is still Twilight, then Breaking Dawn, Eclipse/New Moon. I can´t decide cause NEw Moon sux with the werewolf thing but the end is just SO perfect..

message 26: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I agree that most of New Moon sucked but the ending was great. I liked Eclipse because it showed everything that Edward would do for Bella! It was like no matter what she did (that most guys would leave) he was there and knew it would be him in the end.
Breaking Dawn was really weird for me. I don't think she stayed true to her characters. Edward was a doormat and was willing to let Bella have Jacobs kids he should have known that she only wanted that baby because it was his. Bella was ok with staying human for longer even though in all the other books she didn't want to be older then Edward. Alice would have found a way to let Bella know that it might be ok and she was trying to help the family instead of letting Bella believe that she left them there to die and was not helping. Rose was more selfish then ever. She only helped Bella because she thought she would be the baby for the first two years because Bella wouldn't be able to be around her(at least that was my take on it). Bella doesn't lose anything. She gets her dad, Edward and Jacob is part of her family. She saves the day in the end. And it is the most anti-climatic ending that I have ever read. There is no closure to the story. You don't know if they are going to come back and they make it seem like they are planning to pick them off one by one.

message 27: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) I think the problem is: it´s not important if the Volturi are coming back lol The main subject of the Series is Bella and Edward and how they would end, and they have a good closure.. so... it´s like "whatever it comes, we´ll handle it" haha

I really don´t like the whole wolf-thing again and how Jacob ended being family, I´d love to see him running wild to the west and never coming back haha But it happends.. I think I only like Seth.
And about Rose.. That´s who I always tought she was so, no big surprise for me. She is selfish, she almost deserve an award for that haha

Edward for instance was weird indeed. Really frightening the way he talked to Bella, but maybe that was just the way Jacob saw them, cause in Bella´s book Edward looks the same, really protector, caring and kinda possessive.

Hey Jen, I think people might hate us, we are discussing and spoilering all the books here hahaha

message 28: by Jen (last edited Apr 22, 2009 10:06AM) (new)

Jen (jencroup) haha...I'm used to people hating me because of books I can't keep the spoilers to myself! Its a problem I have

I agree with what you said about Rose. I just ment that I didn't think I could hate her anymore then I did in the other books but I did!

message 29: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Really, you hated her? Nah, I like Rosalie.. I think I "understand" her, it´s like she is in pain all the time, just because she exist, I think it´s a little sad.

I can say I only hate Jacob lol The Volturi are evil but they are super cool, Rosalie is selfish but is funny to watch her, Leah is another character you learn to love cause she is just suffereing too, Seth is cute.. but.. Jacob.. is.. trully, deeply, madly, annoying. hahaha

message 30: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I Couldn't agree more then I do with you about Jacob! I feel like that about Bella to. She needs to have everything and everyone and the one thing she is willing to give up (having children) she doesn't even have to give up. I thought Jacob was funny in Breaking Dawn then at least his titles were. I feel bad for Rose, but at the same time she doesn't have you treat Bella the way she does. She is never nice to her until Breaking Dawn. Everyone else in the family accepts her. The Volturi are really cool. I kind of like the way Jane is confused at the end of the book when she can't attack anyone. It was so funny! It would be great to have some of their powers!

message 31: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) hahaha the Volturi are awesome. I imagine them being those kind of really cold, old and black dressed people, looking they were the builders of Florence haha
I´m really afraid how the Volturi will end up in the movie, some of the casting looks right, but some of the actors will have to work hard to look like a Volturi to me lol

message 32: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I know what you mean. I picture them kind of old looking, even though they really aren't. She explains them as papery...doesn't she?

message 33: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Does she? And.. I don´t know what papery means, anyway hahahaha

I bought all the 4 books in hardcover yesterday, I´m just waiting for them to arrive *_*
And that´s your fault and our Twilight discussion haha

message 34: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) Glad I can be there for you to blame. I think she said something about their skin looking like old flaky paper. Like if you touch it it will just break off. I can't remember exactly how she said it but that is what I have in mind. Remember Bella wanted to touch them, but at the same point was afraid to.

message 35: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Yeaaahh I remember something about she wanting to touch them. Well, this makes me think I need to re-read New Moon lol

message 36: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) HAHA...I only read that one once...it the only one that I can say that about. The other ones I have read twice.

message 37: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Ahahahaha I know what you mean. But anyway, I´ll HAVE to read New Moon again before the movie, so... lol
The problem is everytime I watch Twilight and I to read it, cause the book is sooo much better than the movie >.<

message 38: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I know what you mean. The movie doesn't compare!

What did you think about sense and sensability? It on my to read list

How do you cross your books off you list? I haven't figured that out yet?

message 39: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) I liked Sense and Sensability, it´s my first Jane Austen and I was in love with her writting. It´s soft, very sad but ironic too. It has flow you know? Not that kind of book you don´t want to read the next chapter!
I´m just waiting for my Complete Novels to arrive so I can read the other ones!!

How do I cross it? You mean in the first post? I just use the "edit" link :) Or if you´re asking about the code, is <*s> text you want to cross <*/s> but without the *.

message 40: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I really enjoyed Pride and Prejudice! It was fantastic! That is the only Jane Austin I have read. I have Emma sitting here to read, but I keep hearing that it is not a good read so I keep putting it off.

message 41: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) My next one will be Pride and Prejudice, for sure! After that maybe Emma or Mansfield Park. Or I´d just follow my book´s order lol

For me was quite difficult to read Sense and Sensibility at the beginning, cause my first language isn´t English. Jane´s writting is very 1800, so I took a while to get adjusted... but besides that, I thought it was an easy-reading, with very clever sentences. My mom said Pride and Prejudice is even better, more clever and ironic, I suppose I´ll like it.

message 42: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) Have you ever watched to movie Pride and Prejudice? It is really good but can't touch the book! They usually can't though. I watched to movie first and really wish I wouldn't have. I think I would have gotten more out of Darcy if I wouldn't have watched it first....don't get me wrong I loved to book still but I think I was just kind of missing something the way I did it.

message 43: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Never watched the movie and I´m waiting for me to read it first. I always prefer to read first and watch later, so I can form my own character in my head. Or things like me imagining Anne Hatheway playing Mia in Princess Diaries, when Mia is BLONDE in the book, happends hauhaha

message 44: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I hate when they do that! I am reading I am legend and he is suppost to have blonde hair and blue eyes and then Will Smith plays him in the movie! I know what you mean I like to read the book first, but it I watched Princess Bride before I ever knew there was a book.

message 45: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Sometimes it happens... For exemple I Am Legend. I didn´t know there was a book, so I´ll have the same problem haha

I don´t know why they do that.. It´s not that hard to find a blond guy, right? Or dye Anne´s hair...
That´s why I think Twilight movie was good, they changed a lot of stuff, but Rose was blonde, Edward had brown-red hair...

message 46: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I know what you mean...they made of attemped to make them look like the characters. One complaint about that is Emmett hair is suppost to be long. They should have dyed Anne's hair but now that I think about it I don't know that she has ever dyed her hair for a movie part. I wig would have worked...that is what they did with Rose (well that is what I heard they did because I know her hair was brown when they were doing the promo stuff

message 47: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Don´t ask me about their hair, I never got it. She looks blonde in the movie, and looks like her own hair! Now I know for sure they are using wigs for New Moon because I saw some horrible picture of Nikki with a ugly thing keeping the hair up, and she looks VERY weird, actually, she looks weird with the wig too, but let´s just way for post-production, everything seems to change there.

Hey have you seen some on set pictures? ugh, we really should read New Moon before watching the movie... they changed SO MUCH one of the scenes :S

message 48: by Jen (new)

Jen (jencroup) I hate when they change everything. I end up dragging my husband to the movie and complaining about it. I haven't seen any of the pictures. I really do want to re-read them, but a friend of mine has my books. I want to re-read the whole series straight through. That way I get the whole feel of it. Rose must have dyed her hair blonde then dyed it back after filming. She is so much prettier with brown hair! I thought I read that her and Jasper had wigs, but his didn't look like a wig either and I know his hair is about that length in real life.

message 49: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Updating!!

Oh.. next week is exams week... lots of Law reading and none fiction reading :(
