I read and reviewed Pathfinder when it came out, and I REALLY loved it! I didn't realize the 2nd in the series was out until just the other day. I'm very excited about it!!

I'm currently reading Jack Templar Monster Hunter .
Once that one is done I'm thinking of starting my Harry Potter re-readathon. Starting with Harry Potter and the (Philosopher's) Sorcerer's Stone of course.

message 5: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (islandmichy) Harry Potter series :-)

message 6: by Katie (new)

Katie Clark I've got so many. I'm currently reading Seraphina.

I've heard really good things about The False Prince and plan to read that next. The next couple I plan to read are Chains and The Lost Hero.

message 8: by Tonja (new)

Tonja Drecker (tonjadrecker) | 14 comments I'm currently tackling The Thief Lord and will start Jack Templar Monster Hunter next week. See what comes after that :)

No plan. I'll read what's lying around and then go searching for more. At the moment, none is MG.

Just finished Knight's fee, and will put a review on my blog soon. The book is older than I am, so doesn't need the publicity, but it's one of a number I've been looking at thanks to this book: 1001 Children's Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up

message 10: by Cordelia (new)

Cordelia Dinsmore (cordeliadinsmore) | 105 comments I finally finished Pride and Prejudice last month, so I didn't get any MG reading accomplished. This month I'm hoping to finish The Legend of Ghost Dog Island. So far it's pretty good.

I've signed up for the Pre-1960 Classic Children's book challenge, which means I read one of said type each month. I'm currently finishing a murder mystery by a Goodreads author and I've been collecting suitable titles for the challenge. Maybe I'll start with The Jungle Book, which I've never read. I've only seen the film in excerpts :) Or maybe it'll be Professor Branestawm.
Suggestions welcome.

Jeff Bilman (jeff_bilman) | 29 comments Two weeks with the Queen, Morris Gleitzman

message 13: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm going to try to read something by Robert Newton Peck and something by Richard Peck (in addition to The River Between Us which I just finished) because it's only this morning that I realized that they were two different people, and I need to get them sorted out!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I might like to reread The Penderwick books. Those books make me laugh so hard.
The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of
Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy

message 15: by Robert (new)

Robert Tabb (robert_c_tabb) | 83 comments I'm reading the rest of the Percy Jackson series. Finished Sea of Monsters and will conclude Titan's Curse tonight. Then on to the 4th book.

message 16: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 48 comments I have the The Mark of Athena checked out to read. I can't wait to see what he does with Norse Mythology too.

message 18: by Lea Ann (new)

Lea Ann (buntingla) I'm starting Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson . It's been setting on my classroom library shelves for I don't know how long. I'm finally going to read it.

message 19: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Probably a good idea, Lea. I know how that goes, though - just cuz we want the kids to read it doesn't always mean we're interested! ;)

message 20: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 1680 comments Mod
I'm pretty sure I read it. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it was good, though with enough realism to be a bit grim, too.

message 21: by Lea Ann (new)

Lea Ann (buntingla) Cheryl, usually the historical fiction I like isn't what the kids want to read especially these days with all the time-traveling, mystical, paranormal stuff being so popular. They all turn their noses up at my books. lol

I just finished reading that one to my kids yesterday. When we were at the last chapter, my son said, "Can we read it again tomorrow?" I guess that means they liked it! lol

message 23: by Renee (new)

Renee (motherdaughterbookreviews) | 14 comments My daughter and I are currently working on Julie Grasso's (yes - YOU, Julie) Escape From the Forbidden Planet. My daughter was just raving about it this morning. Next up for us is either Lexie World by Kimberly Kinrade or Forbidden Wings by Margaret Arvantis.

LOL so relieved she is liking it. I love the sound of Forbidden Wings. I think I saw a review on our last hop. Can't wait for the 23rd, polishing my post as we speak, and I was going to email you about our Love Middle Grade Promo, but you beat me to it, awesomeness yet again, lol cheers Julie

message 25: by Julie (new)

Julie Grasso | 103 comments I am reading The Infinity Bridge by Ross Kitson The Infinity Bridge, as well as Daisy Cooper International Schoolgirl by Robert Dee and I am going to start on Wonder by RJ Palacio, but I am not sure my tear ducts are quite ready for it, we will see.

message 26: by Beth (new)

Beth I plan on reading Fing by Papa G. and The Wrong Door by Paul E. Richardson I'm sure that I'll read more than that since I have a broken ankle and can't do anything else! Not the "break" I wanted! Ha! Ha!

message 27: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Marr (andrewmarrosb) | 25 comments My current YA reading project (I have others, of course) is the Joshua Files series. I have read the first book & plan to read the second one this Sunday.

message 28: by Lea Ann (new)

Lea Ann (buntingla) I just finished reading Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson . Good plot, lots of historical details, likeable characters, and just enough misery to make one think. lol

Now I'm planning on reading Chomp by Carl Hiaasen . I haven't read any other Carl Hiaasen books even though they've come highly recommended. Anyone else read his stuff?

message 29: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 1680 comments Mod
Hiaasen is always entertaining, always has a good sense of humor. He's not one I turn to frequently but I've enjoyed what I've read.

message 30: by Kirstin (new)

Kirstin Pulioff | 8 comments Those are some great choices. I think I want to start reading the Percy Jackson ones... haven't gotten around to those yet. Although re-reading the Harry Potter's is always a good option...

message 31: by Julie (new)

Julie Grasso | 103 comments Beth you poor thing. Keep that foot up. The wrong door sounds intriguing. Keep us posted. Love to hear what you think of it. Cheers Julie

message 32: by Cordelia (new)

Cordelia Dinsmore (cordeliadinsmore) | 105 comments I'm finishing up Bright Island, which I like but I'm not sure how today's youth will relate to it. Now I'm starting on some Cynthia Voight - the Dicy series. Our library doesn't have the entire series, so I'm not starting with the first one.

Beth, you have my sympathy! I had foot surgery this month and am also spending a lot of time with my foot higher than my heart! A very awkward position for writing.

message 34: by Beth (new)

Beth My sympathy back to you! It is driving me nuts! I just want to get back to the job I love and tell all of the kids about the awesome books I've read! (And believe me, I've read A LOT!) We'll get through this...one book at a time! Heal quickly!

message 35: by Beth (new)

Beth Julie wrote: "Beth you poor thing. Keep that foot up. The wrong door sounds intriguing. Keep us posted. Love to hear what you think of it. Cheers Julie"

Thanks for the well-wishes! The Wrong Door was very good and full of action. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the trilogy! My 5th graders that I do book talks with will love this one! Hopefully,I will be able to get back to work and tell them about it SOON!

message 36: by Lea Ann (new)

Lea Ann (buntingla) Wow! Anyone else been hit by this flu epidemic? Our school was hit HARD last week. I muddled through, but my friend across the hall has been out all week.

Anyway, I finished Chomp by Carl Hiaasen this morning. It took me a while to get moving with this book. I thought the first one hundred pages were kind of slow, but last night the action started to pick up and I couldn't put it down.

Cute book, funny, suspenseful, good friendship between the main male and female characters, and I thought the inside look into "reality" TV was pretty interesting. I'd love to do this as a read-aloud in class or even get a class set. I'm definitely going to read more Hiaasen.

I'm waiting for all the kids in my reading class to bring in their permission slips so we can start reading War Horse (War Horse, #1) by Michael Morpurgo . Several boys in my class expressed interest in it, so I managed to get a class set using my Scholastic points. Thank goodness for those!

message 37: by J (new)

J L's Bibliomania (jlsbibliomania) Lea, I'm just curious - why do you need permission slips to read a book?

message 38: by Lea Ann (new)

Lea Ann (buntingla) Julie wrote: "Lea, I'm just curious - why do you need permission slips to read a book?"

District policy. If we choose to read something that is not already on the grade-level list (which is pretty small) we have to get permission slips signed. It's pretty annoying.

I read Scat and Flush, and liked both a lot. Hiassen is a great writer and has interesting characters. They all take place in Florida and the environment and endangered animals play a part too.

message 40: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 3 comments I am currently reading Liar and Spy, and really liking it. I love Georges' observations!

message 41: by Cordelia (new)

Cordelia Dinsmore (cordeliadinsmore) | 105 comments Someone recommended Cynthia Voigt to me and I don't know how I missed her before now. Just finished Dicey's Song and now reading Homecoming. That's totally out of order, but I had to wait for Homecoming, and I was out of other reading material. These are awesome books, even if they have been out for a while.

message 42: by Lea Ann (new)

Lea Ann (buntingla) A student recommended a book to me last week. I got my hands on it today. Or Give Me Death A Novel of Patrick Henry's Family by Ann Rinaldi I'm hoping to start it this weekend. I'm pretty excited to have found a historical fiction fan in a fifth-grade class. lol

message 43: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I just love it when students recommend books.

This is quite a charming book that reminds us of how mysterious some people can be.
