so we did this activity in history class with 5 statements...

Are you Enlightened???
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Why or why not?

REASON AND LOGIC CAN EXPLAIN HUMAN BEHAVIORS.

message 2: by Hailey (new)

Hailey (haileyhaileyhailey) | 281 comments No because, humans are very complex, often times they don't even understand their own behavior so how could it be explained with reason and logic?

message 3: by Aliya (new)

Aliya Human behavior is not based on reason and logic its based on how you were raised and who taught you.

message 4: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
I disagree with you both, and agree with the statement.
Everything you do is a result of something, therefore the was a reason why you did it.
For example, let's say your boyfriend broke up with you, but you still had deep feelings for him, so you cried.
WHY did you cry? your bf broke up with you.
WHY did he break up with you? he probably didn't like you like that anymore.

you could just go on and on.

message 5: by Aliya (new)

Aliya You cried because you we raised to be sensetive. And he broke up with you because he was probably taught to not like girls like you that way.

message 6: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
That is not what the statement says though. It says there is a reason for the way we act so you just contradicted yourself.

message 7: by Hailey (new)

Hailey (haileyhaileyhailey) | 281 comments Well think of segregation, people were treated differently because they didn't look the same as us. Is there reason and logic to explain this?

message 8: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
yes, youi said it yourself. People were segregated because of their looks.
There's a REASON for EVERYTHING, but not all of them are GOOD> some are BAD.

message 9: by Hailey (last edited Mar 06, 2009 05:09PM) (new)

Hailey (haileyhaileyhailey) | 281 comments There's not a reason for everything. Why were humans created?

message 10: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
Yet again, there is a reason, the exact right one is unknown, but there are many Hypothesis.
Such as:
-God wanted to test us, and life is a test
And -Evolution.

message 11: by aqua (new)

aqua | 70 comments if u use christianity's reason, humans were created to worship the lord.

message 12: by Aliya (last edited Mar 06, 2009 05:16PM) (new)

Aliya I think that's the reason for most religions, I'm two religions and they both believe we were created to worship The Lord.

message 13: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
exactly, there are many ideas for the answer to that question, but will we ever know?
Maybe we will maybe we won't. We're humans-so we don't know everything, and that also means we don't know the reason or cause of everything.

message 14: by Hailey (new)

Hailey (haileyhaileyhailey) | 281 comments That's true, but not all people are Christian. What about people who don't have any religion? What's their logic?

message 15: by Aliya (new)

Aliya They probably go by science like what ♥ Bella♥ {Hold Me: I’m a Fermata} said:

Yet again, there is a reason, the exact right one is unknown, but there are many Hypothesis.

The statement wasn't about everyone having logic, though everyone does at different degrees. The statement said there is a reason for human behaviors, and basicly everything though that is indirectly stated. and other religions have there ideas to answer that question to. Take buddist for example. To them, there is life so that you can reach Nirvana (perfect peace, their version of heaven.)

message 17: by Alia☺ (new)

Alia☺ (AliaE) | 67 comments i feel like both answers could be right. though i am sort of leaning towards bellas agreement about the statement stated above. what i personally think though is that logic and reason can SOMETIMES explain human behavior. i do not think that there is one way to it, like logic and reason doesn't or does. human behavior is something different from most, its unique in a way, and sometimes you never know.

message 18: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
but don't you think there's a reason for everything?
I mean, maybe we don't know the reason. After all, we're human- hence we're not perfect(we're like the furthest away from perfect) and we DON'T know everything.

message 19: by Liv (new)

Liv (olive18) | 11 comments I agree with the Statement and with Bella.

No. There are so many things that people can't explain. We haven't even finished exploring the universe. I think that humans have gotta be more complex than the universe, don't you?

message 22: by Hailey (new)

Hailey (haileyhaileyhailey) | 281 comments I agree

message 23: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
yes, but don't you think there is a reason? Even if we don' know it?

Honestly, we don't know everything.

message 24: by Aliya (new)

Aliya if we don't know everything how would you know ther's a reason behind everything?

message 25: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
it's a belief, or thought.

message 26: by Ninja (new)

Ninja (ninjafanpire) | 616 comments Mod
Who says there is a reason behind everything?

message 27: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
no one directly. That's just the thoughts of some people, like me.

message 28: by Bree, you make me smile (new)

Bree (breej6434) | 835 comments Mod
but wouldn't there be a reason for everything? Even if it is unknown to mankind?

message 29: by Ninja (new)

Ninja (ninjafanpire) | 616 comments Mod
This reminds me of the movie Knowing that I just saw.

message 30: by Anne (new)

Anne (anneveneman) That movie was terrible!

message 31: by Ninja (new)

Ninja (ninjafanpire) | 616 comments Mod
It was an okay movie.....I mean it started out pretty good, and then it got weird.

One of my friends said she would have to think it over for a few days to decide if she liked it. Other friend, well I think she said that some of the movie just went over her head.

message 32: by Anne (new)

Anne (anneveneman) Yes... it started fine. But it just turned out lame. And who cast Nicolas Cage? I can't stand thet guy!

message 33: by Ninja (new)

Ninja (ninjafanpire) | 616 comments Mod
My friend is like "Why is that guy always in movies like that?" (National Treasure) You know, movies with a mystery and codes and stuff.

message 34: by Anne (new)

Anne (anneveneman) Yea. I don't like his acting very well.

message 35: by Aliya (new)

Aliya yeah, they probaly cast him because of that.

message 36: by Ninja (new)

Ninja (ninjafanpire) | 616 comments Mod
Because Anne doesn't like his acting?

message 37: by Aliya (new)

Aliya no because of the code breaking stuff

message 38: by Ninja (new)

Ninja (ninjafanpire) | 616 comments Mod
I know I know, I was just kidding.

i did like him in national treasure though, there was another movie I saw-forgot which one-that I didn't like him in. I haven't seen Knowing yet though. It looked good though.

REASON AND LOGIC CAN EXPLAIN HUMAN..."

Human behavior, by deffinition, is the collection of behaviors exhibited by human beings and influenced by culture, attitudes, emotions, values, ethics, authority, rapport, hypnosis, persuasion, coercion and/or genetics.
The behavior of people (and other organisms or even mechanisms) falls within a range with some behavior being common, some unusual, some acceptable, and some outside acceptable limits. In sociology, behavior is considered as having no meaning, being not directed at other people and thus is the most basic human action. Behavior should not be mistaken with social behavior, which is more advanced action, as social behavior is behavior specifically directed at other people. The acceptability of behavior is evaluated relative to social norms and regulated by various means of social control.
...
Human behavior cannot be measured by science... it is just what is and what isn't. Science or religion have nothing to do with it, because over time it changes, as does life. But science never changes, the idea of life is the same, the stars and the planets are all the same... it has nothing to do with human behavior.

message 43: by Aliya (new)

Aliya Bella: I heard a lot of people say that Knowing was a bad movie. I haven't seen it yet but I'll just stick yo watching it on D.V.D.

but still, that is a reason behind it.

No, beacause what if we do something for love, technically it isn't logical.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

nothing can be logical wheen it comes to love I guess.

message 47: by Milana (new)

Milana (tutuintopointe) | 779 comments Mod
yeah

message 48: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) There is a very interesting hypothesis being tested to that effect.

http://people.howstuffworks.com/love4...

There is "attachment" love. The most attached couple would have the best offspring. Natural Selection. :)
