Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments What is your worst book reading habit?

Is it accidentally bend books? Making doggy eared pages? What ever it is tell us!

My worst book reading habit is losing sense of time. I literally start reading and 7:30(pm) and then the next time I look at the clock it's 12(pm). Yea, it's bad!. I get really engrossed in books.

message 2: by Sina (new)

Sina | 429 comments the worst book reading habit I have is that if something happens in the book that is sad I cry, and that I always have a book with me every where I go. ( like on a date... I have a book with me, and starts reading in it in front of the person I'm on a date with if the date is boring, or I don't like the person. Have done this, the person just walked away living me and my book alone :D )

message 3: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (pandabears) LOL :P nice one Sina :') haha ^.^

The worst reading habit for me is that I can't read fast like you guys, I literally really want to read a book between 2-3 days but fail to. ><

message 4: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments I have time to read and I read pretty fast. Probally because I've been a bookworm for along time. And I get really engrossed in a book, I can read for 4 hours flat without getting bored. I'm abnormal/weird. XD

message 5: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments LOL, see the thing is I HATE it when people doggy ear books. Poor books :( (btw it was a pretty awesome bookmark)

message 6: by Haleemah (new)

Haleemah (bookworm_101) | 124 comments I used to doggy ear the pages, but then I switch to just memorizing the page that I was one.

message 7: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments I can't remember the page I read up to. Partly cause I'll remember it wrong!

message 8: by Haleemah (new)

Haleemah (bookworm_101) | 124 comments Sometimes I have that problem too, but then I skim through the pages until I find the correct spot. For some reason, I don't use bookmarks.

message 9: by Karina (new)

Karina Zourik | 10 comments omg, I have a problem with shipping a couple so hard (even if they aren't even going out) and googling everything about them. Their first kiss, photos of scenes where they're together, and I end up spoiling the ENTIRE book for myself! UGH!! I did this for The Mortal Instruments Series, The Infernal Devices Series, The Delirium Series, and Mazerunner Series, now I am reading Uglies and forcing myself to be a man (or woman) and stay put and find out what happens the slow and painful way. It sucks because I can easily just google it, but I most stop that!

message 10: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments LOL, yes it is very slow and painful! But it's worth it. (most of the time)

message 11: by Laura (new)

Laura | 57 comments I ALWAYS lose my book mark... and I giggle out loud when something funny happens.

message 12: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Same!
I'm reading on the bus (school) and I laugh or sigh and then everybody turns to look at me. Embarrassing!

message 13: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (pandabears) LOL :P

Also I think I have the same problem as well as Katrina, I sometimes intend to skip pages and read the interesting parts towards the ends :L it's just too addicting. I must stop! and I am trying to soo hard.

message 14: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments I used to do that now I don't.

Does anyone read the last page of the book first?

message 15: by Trip (last edited Jan 12, 2013 12:15PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) I usually read the end of the book first, this is only if it sounds like its going to be sad or disappoint me towards the end.

Dog ear pages when I know I wont have enough time to finish, doesn't happen much now since I use my kindle most of the time.

Also one to giggle, smile or whilst reading, considering most of my reading is done in public on the bus or hallway of college this is a little awkward.

Im a little mean too as if im reading and one of my friends suddenly turns up starting to talk I will often not be listening especially if im really interested in the book.(Always) Don't mean too it just happens, I think they've started to notice now though and so whilst im reading they'll ignore me, letting me read.

message 16: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments My friends always tease me when I zone out while reading books!

message 17: by Haleemah (new)

Haleemah (bookworm_101) | 124 comments I do the same, Nancy! Especially if the book is a bit boring in some parts. :p

message 18: by Madeleine (new)

Madeleine (crazyrandomhappenstance) | 8 comments I flip to the final pages if I feel a character is going to die and check for any dialogue featuring them, like in the hunger games. Sometimes my eye catches details I shouldn't find out until the end. I spoil SO MUCH for myself.

message 19: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Sometimes I drop a book *gasp* (I'm a klutz) so when I pick it up it's on a random page near the end, I glance at the page just for a second to see if there's any mention of my favourite character. Sometimes.

Omigawd thats what I always think/do ^.^

message 21: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra I cannot damage my books... at all.
Like, I will delicately open the spine in hopes of no cracks.
Hurting my books is like hurting a child to me.

Lol such a delicate way to blow someone off! :)

@Cassandra - Same! If I ever buy a new paper back, when I'm finished reading I'll press it so the covers are flat again, etc etc. But now I have my Kindle, so I'm extra careful with that.

I lose track of time - completely. Like, I can sit on my bed and read for 7 hours non stop with no food or toilet breaks. But that's only if it is an awesome book! And I kinda zone out, like if someone is talking to me I might just go back to reading and forget about them completely.
But worst, I speed read. Like, I love reading, and I take in the story and details, but I'm just so desperate to find out the ending that I read mega fast. I normally read a book 2-3 times fairly close together to pick up on smaller details.
I can go through 10 books a week when I feel like it! And long books, like 300-900 pages long.

message 23: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments 10 books, wow. I need to get some of what ever you've got!

message 24: by Madeleine (new)

Madeleine (crazyrandomhappenstance) | 8 comments Also I read the dialogue out loud if I'm really enjoying the book. In the accent I deem appropriate. Usually British.

message 25: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments LOL, my parents would think I've gone crazy.

Me too!!! I feel so bad when I drop books and they slide so that the pages get all dirty and bent.

message 28: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Once I dropped a brand new book on the bus. It was a rainy day and everyone was walking onto the bus with wet and muddy shoes so... you can kinda figure out what happened. *Sob*

Tsk, tsk. To jail! Cruelty against books! lol

@Chelsea 10 books, wow. I need to get some of what ever you've got!
- Cassie Clare, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Divergent, The Velesi Trilogy - anything in my library, I read over and over again! Unless it is a really bad book, which in that case I never wish to see it's cover again.

Another habit I have is that if a character says something strange, or makes a gesture, or screws up their face, I do it or say it to see what it looks/sounds like. It is always especially awkward if it is in class at school. When that happens, I blush like crazy, put my book down and draw instead. Sometimes I draw a person doing the action from the book - it is a lot less embarrassing that way than doing it myself! lol :)

message 30: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (warpedline) | 214 comments Same! I finished reading "Dragon Moon" today for like the billionth time, and I still cried! I cry every time I read it. The ending is so sad, yet so happy! Really recommend the trilogy. The trilogy's called " The Dragonkeeper". Last book is amazing! My sister thought I was weird because she caught me crying. :')

Omg same people end up looking at me strangely, LOL. I sometimes talk to the book too. Not a good look.

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (Oceanwhisper) | 39 comments When I read I bite the insides of my mouth in anticipation, especially the little knobbly bits, and they do bleed often and I get in trouble with my mum who's a dentist xD

message 33: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (warpedline) | 214 comments Another one to add to my growing list - I read too fast. Like, WAY too fast. Just today, at 10 am I bought the third Virals book, Code by Kathy Reichs, and I had it finished and a review written by 4 in the afternoon.
I just get so caught up in the book, you know? I have to keep reading and find out what happens.

BTW, Code is an awesome book! Def recommend the Virals series. Can't wait for the fourth book! - Problem is she hasn't even started writing it yet :(

message 34: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments There is a fourth book OMG AWESOME! OMG YAY! OMG OMG! OMG *SIGH* ! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG ....

Sorry! ignore my unhealthy obbsession with books. :)

message 35: by Sina (new)

Sina | 429 comments I'm have a lot of bad habits, but the worst is that when I have my cellphone and kindle on my desk at school and somebody steals my phone I don't notice, but when someone even touches my Kindle I start yelling at them and get really protective about it :P

message 36: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (elliem97) | 7 comments My worst reading habit is when I come across a page or two or even a chapter I like, I'll read it slowly and often twice.
Which doesn't help since I'm a slow reader to begin with.

message 37: by cc (new)

cc (caitlinisakittycat) I used to be terrible about dog-earing books. Now, I lose my place all the time because I try to memorize what page I'm on. Or I use strange things as bookmarks: cell phones, a tissue, a single square of toilet paper, anything small I can find.

I also used to jump to the end a lot. I'm not sure why. I just can't wait or wanna see if it gets better.

I've been known to get overstimulated to the point that, sometimes, I have to put the book down because it's just too amazing for me to handle. Or I'll occasionally squeal & wiggle around when something super awesome happens. Or I'll get agitated & pace.

I'm a book-reading lunatic! :-/

This happens to me all the time! A guy in my class likes to "snatch and run" as a joke... I chase him round the classroom, and if I can't catch him, or he passes it to other people, I tell the teacher :') All a good joke :')

Probably so! Haha. I don't usually plan to put my book down, I usually have to, which means I don't have time to find a legitimate bookmark.

message 40: by Liz (new)

Liz (lookingstrongjohn) probably my worst reading habit is that sometimes i would rather just read than talk to people or go out and party - especially if someone is annoying, i would really like to have the guts to just pull my book out and shun them completely :$

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) Loosing time while reading and finishing way too fast.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

I always start a new series while in the middle of one and I kick myself in the butt every time.

message 43: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2 comments My worst reading habit would probably be laughing out loud when I'm reading something funny.
