Press Release

Yale University Press to celebrate 2013 centennial of Proust’s masterpiece....by launching landmark NEW EDITION of In Search of Lost Time!

English translation revised by leading Proust scholar, William C. Carter, corrects longstanding errors; volumes will also feature annotations in the style of Yale’s critically acclaimed annotated Thoreau editions.

William C. Carter—whose Marcel Proust: A Life and Proust in Love prompted Harold Bloom to declare him “Proust’s definitive biographer”—has drawn on his accumulated wisdom and insight to create a landmark edition of this supreme work of literary genius.

Newly revised and, for the first time, annotated, Swann’s Way, the first volume of In Search of Lost Time, will appear in fall 2013, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the book’s original publication in Nov. 1913.

Marcelita Swann | 1135 comments Pre-orders...late summer.

More info:
"Thus Yale’s edition of In Search of Lost Time will present the Moncrieff translation as revised by Carter, who preserves Moncrieff’s brilliant overall achievement and corrects missteps in ways that do not undermine or overrule Proust but instead bring readers closer to Proust’s intentions— and sublime artistry—than ever before.

Yale’s edition will also feature Carter’s annotations, which provide illuminating notes and clarifications regarding the biographical, historical, and social contexts of Proust’s masterpiece." Yale U Press

message 28: by Jason (new)

Jason (ancatdubh2) Just to let people know, Proustitute has asked us to start filling in the Events section of our group with upcoming Proust-related events from the PROUST-INK calendar.

Instead of sending out mass invites to all group members for each event, I'm leaving the invite list blank. When we post new events to the Events page, we'll make a note of it in this thread here. People can then go to the Events page at their leisure and sign up for whichever events they wish to attend.

Here is the Events page: http://www.goodreads.com/event/list_g...
(also available by clicking the "Events" link at the top of the group page)

Here is the PROUST-INK calendar: http://www.proust-ink.com/calendar/
(we'll be adding all these events to the group's Events page over the next couple of days.)

@Proustitute: I just added the PROUST IN 24 HOURS event to the Event page.

message 29: by Jason (last edited Feb 04, 2013 11:55AM) (new)

Jason (ancatdubh2) Also, if any group member has an event he or she wishes to add, please post here and remind a moderator to create it on the Events page.

I haven't gone back through this thread to see if there are any other events people want to add, so if there are, please go ahead and squeak that wheel.

[Edit]
You're welcome!

There is an ERROR in the New York Time's review of ‘Marcel Proust and “Swann’s Way” ’ at the Morgan Library.

William C. Carter, not Edmund White, wrote "Promiscuous Proust" in his book "Proust in Love." See Carter's website/online course Proust Ink (www.proust-ink.com/)
