If you're feeling really stuck, make sure that your central idea includes:

Author: Rosa Parks & Jim Haskins
Genre: Autobiography

Chapter Title: Marriage, and Activism

1) SI #1: Rosa meets Raymond Parks.

2) SI #2: Raymond Parks was a black person who was a light skinned to past for white, but he didn't take advantage of it.

3) SI #3: Rosa admired Raymond for Scottsboro Boys case and which led her to married him.

4) SI #4: Parks went to meetings that were dangerous.


Central Idea: Raymond Parks is a person who fought for civil Rights and influence Rosa to married him.

Supporting Idea #1: People who lived in Iran where forced to wear veils after The Islamic Revolution.

Supporting Idea #2: People who didn't wear veils was separated from people who do wear veils.

Supporting Idea #3: People went on strike for and against veils.

Supporting Idea #4: She was Very Religous but she is also confused on who's side to choose.

Central Idea: After The Islamic Revolution in Iran, to wear veils,but even though some are religous some dislike the idea.

3.) People were scared and confused and they didn’t want to die so they changed their look
4.) Some people believe that being a profit is funny and wrong but some think that’s its good
The central idea of this chapter is, woman don’t want to wear Veil’s and a lot of stuff is changing for them and they don’t like it so they started to protest for their rights. Also Marjane wants to be a profit and other people think that’s wrong but Marjane strongly believes that’s not wrong but its actually good

Ben Friedman | 25 comments In the outstanding Biography “Annie Oakley” by Chuck Wills the story talks about Annies life it started telling us she was born into a family with many members. Early in the story they told the reader about the death of both Annies father and brother and how that majorly affected her life. And her up coming in the guns world.
The central idea of the section im reading now is
Woman are not supposed to shoot guns.
Supporting idea #1: Woman should be home cooking
Supporting idea #2: Girls should not do a mans job
Supporting idea #3: People made fun of her
Supporting idea #4: She was beat for using a gun

Monica | 43 comments The memoir, Angela's Ashes, by Frank McCourt summarizes the ideas of being the oldest child in a 5 boy family, while his dad lives mainly on cigarettes, and his mom mourns the memory of her dead daughter.

First chapter:
Supporting idea #1: Frank's mother thinks of Frank last.
Supporting idea #2: Frank's dad blames his wife for everything.
Supporting idea #3: Frank's little brother, Malachy, like his friend, Freddie, more than him.
Supporting idea #4: His mother rarely talks to him.

Central Idea: Frank's family, when he was five ear old, did not seem to care about one another that much.

Matthew | 34 comments The non-fiction book, Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World, by Jennifer Armstrong, tells the story of Ernest Shackelton and his attempt to be the first explorerer to reach Antarctica.

Chapter 4 - The First of the Antarctic

Supporting idea #1 - Shackelton and his crew on board The Endurance are looking for Antarctica.
Supporting idea #2 - The Endurance makes progress, but very slowly.
Supporting idea #3 - On New Year's Eve, they finally cross the Antractic Circle.
Supporting idea #4 - Shackelton and his crew reach Antarctica and celebrate.

Central Idea: The central idea is the final days of Shackelton, his crew and The Endurance reaching Antarctica.

Trinity Burgos | 31 comments In the non-fiction book Ophelia Speaks by Sara Shandler,a memoir from the chapter Diverse Sexualities ''On The Other Side Of The Rainbow'' summarizes about a girl named Laren who has trouble in school because of her differences from the others.

Central Idea: Laren has troubles in school coming out about herself being gay because she's worried about other peoples judjements and ideas.

Supporting idea #1: She's afraid to trust anyone.
Supporting idea #2: She has fear about not being able to be herself around her friends.
Supporting idea #3: She's worried about other peoples reactions.
Supporting idea #4: She's afraid of rejection and loneliness.

Author: Jackie MacMullan and Shaquille O'Neal
Genre: Nonfiction- Biography

Chapter: May,17,1992: NBA Draft Lottery

Supporting Idea 1: Before Shaquille was fully drafted, he was paid a million dollars and he started over using it. Fans were losing the attention of him.

Supporting Idea 2: Shaquille started making some songs with Biggie and became famous for it.
That was until Biggie was murdered.

Supporting Idea 3: Shaquille realized the amount of talent he had after the draft. He started doing many movies and shows.

Supporting Idea 4: On the NBA draft day pick, Shaquille O'Neal was the number 1 pick for the Orlando Magic team. He joins the NBA.

Central Idea: Before the official NBA draft when Shaquille enters his NBA basketball career, he also finds tons of talents he also has like music or acting.

Supporting idea 1: Ji-Li finds out that she can go to a school that is one of the best schools in the city.
Supporting idea 2: Graduating from the 6th grade.
Supporting idea 3: Ji-Li is sad that she will not be able to go to Shi-Yi anymore
Supporting idea 4: Ji-Li is surprised that she is going to the same school as her enemies, Du Hai and Yin Lan-lan.

Central Idea: The central idea of this chapter is Ji-Li receiving news about what school she will be going to

Michael Vu | 24 comments in the nonfiction book Red Scarf Girl by ji li jiang a Biography that talks about the time when people had the cultural revolution where people got rid of "the four olds" which is all old cultural things like rules repect and more.

central idea: liveing in that time where everyone can turn on you even close friends can be hard when you must make hard choices such as hate a teacher she loved and be viewed as a helper in the revolution or repect the teacher and be viewed as a traitor.

supporting idea 1: around her school and home people post hate messages knowen as da-zi-bao

Supporting idea 2: "red guards" which are like the police of the revolution broke into homes and inspected them for any four olds and destoryed them.

Supporting idea 3: all stores that invoved books or school was ransacked and destoryed becuase they said the school systeim was poisoning the young and was bad. even one of the shops destoryed was ji li jiang's grandfather's book store.

Supporting idea 4: even parents teachers and even the dictior could not control the roits so there was chaos everywhere people rebelling and it cuased food shortages.

S1: When Dave was a kid, he didn't have much friends but now he knows what it is like to have a real friend.
S2: His brothers who were once not really supportive of him back then but now are supportive of him.
S3: Bullying was a problem for Dave but it is not a problem for him now.

Central Idea: Even though people have bad luck now, the best of luck will come in the future with lots of friends and forgiveness.

1.) Supporting idea #1: Christopher Candless gave away all his money and burnt it.

2.) Supporting idea #2: He gave everything up to go into the wild (Alaska).

3.) Supporting idea #3:He left his car behind and everything else.

4.) Supporting idea #4: Walked and hitchhiked alone all the way to Alaska.

S1: Emily has to stop going to school because of her father getting laid off.

S2: She has to give up her dreams due to having to work 12 hours a day.

S3: Emily is suffering a lot from work and at home.

S4: Had to live in bad conditions.

Central Idea: Work will break the family apart a cause many bad things to the person that decides to take the role of working for the family.

4.) Supporting Idea #4: Blima's grandfather Zayde died.

Central Idea : Life for Blima was challenging.

4) Supporting Idea #4: Richard finally went home but when he gets back e starts trouble again with his family.

Central Idea: Richard had to learn to stay out of trouble and to stick up for himself.
