An I was looking at quotes on goodreads from 'The Great Gastby' and stumbled upon this quote:
"There’s a loneliness that only exists in one’s mind. The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly."
I do not remember reading this in the book. Can someone please tell me where I can find it?
-Cheers

Lobstergirl It doesn't seem to be in there. Here's the full text of the book:
http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks02/0200...

I just did a search and didn't come up with it. The word loneliness appears three times, not as part of that quote.

An I did that too. Strange isn't it?

Lobstergirl I wish it were stranger than it is, but the internet seems to be flooded with incorrectly attributed quotes.

An Agreed. It is a good quote though.
Thank you for your effort in helping/replying. I appreciate it. :)

Lobstergirl When you edit that quote on GR, it says the quote is in the Introduction to the book. Is there a standard Introduction that goes with every edition of Great Gatsby? Or is it some edition-specific Introduction? We don't know which edition the person was looking at who added that quote. The Gutenberg link above does not contain an introduction.

An I have the penguin book version, and it has an introduction... Let me read it...

EDIT:

I just read the introducion by Tony Tanner, and the quote is not in that one. It must be another introduction, or I may have missed it.

Gob Lazarus | 2 comments This is very strange as he has wrote it, he has said at least. I'm not sure to be honest the more important thing is his life going forward which i talk about at theocratic.agency/zelda
