Ben Friedman | 25 comments In the amazing novel “Hawk” By Tony Hawk. The story’s starts off with telling the tradic and unfortunate tale of Tonys unwantedness with his parents. What I mean by that is both Tonys Mom and Dad where in their late 40’s getting ready to enjoy a peacefull phase in their life when out of know where Tony was born. Little did they know that interruption would become one of the pioneers of skateboarding. Later in the story its talks about Tonys early years and his introduction to skateboarding. With his deduction to skating early into his teens Hawk was able to indorse himself with many of the largest comanys within the sport. Eventaly the give the story of the upbringing of Tony’s own skate company which later went global named Hawk and its expantion throughout the nation and the sport. To sum it all up Hawk gives a short and informing summary of Tonys life from the very beginning to modern day father.
The book “Hawk” is souly based off Tonys life and how skateboarding majorly affected his life. On the accont of the book being mostly about skating. Therefore I wuld without a doubt suggest this book to anyone who skates. I would reccomd this book to anyone who skates because it gives the life story of a man who help sculpt the sport in which we love to partipate in.

Matthew | 34 comments In the fiction, Schooled, by Paul Langan, Lionel is a high schooler who is struggling with his grades. However, he is very good at basketball but his father wants him to concentrate on his grades more. I would tell Lionel that I agree with his father. If Lionel is serious about the NBA, he needs to do better in school. In the book it says, "If only school was like basketball Lionel though to himself. Then he could pivot and spin, tricking his opponent into making mistakes..." This proves what I was saying because Lionel is thinking what if school was like basketball. If I was Lionel I would concentrate on school and get good grades in order to join the NBA.

Justin Yu | 20 comments In the non-fiction book How Children Succeed by Paul Tough, if i were to give a character advice, i would give it to the narrator Paul Tough because in the chapter How to Build Character, he talks about how kids can boost their self esteem. This chapter is very similar to the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. If I were to give advice to the narrator, I would say "Maybe some people know how to motivate others." I say this because he says, "This is the problem with trying to motivate people. No one really knows how to do it well"(66). I beg to differ because many people such as parents, friends, and close people can always motivate you. Not just those people, like Dave Pelzer, he asked many people for help and they motivated him to keep living on. This proves my point of "maybe some people know how to motivate others."

Melanie M. (MissMello) | 21 comments In the nonfiction book Rosa parks by rose parks her self and Jim Haskins I would provide this book to people who are into history. People who like to learn about Rosa Parks and what happened that day when Rosa Parks did not give up her seat to a white man. This book would be mostly for people who did not agree for blacks and whites to be separate but people who do agree to the Civil Rights just like Martin Luther King Jr. If I could ask Rosa Parks I would certainly ask "why didn't you give up this seat?". I guarantee you that if Rosa parks and Martin Luther king did not do what they have had done we would be in this situation to.

Elva C. | 40 comments In the memoir book by Ji-Li Jiang, Red Scarf Girl, Ji-Li, a 12 year old girl who's life is not as good because of the Cultural Revolution. In the part of the book that I am reading, Ji-Li was waling on the sidewalk, when she sees her Aunt Xi-wen sweeping the streets, and she looked like she aged a lot because she looked different. She used to look young with her make-up and her elegant clothes. However, when the Red Guards came to their house and got searched, and confiscated most of her belongings, and she was forced break her relationship with her son, and then she became like that. Aunt Xi-wen fell onto the ground and when her son passed by, he didn't even look at her, but simply walked away. Ji-Li wants to help her get up, but she doesn't want to be criticize. She states, "...Maybe I shouldn't help her either. People would probably say something if they saw me, especially since I was from a black family too..." (142-143). This quote shows that Ji-Li is thinking that she would be criticize for helping her Aunt, because she is from a black family, and she was also from a black family, so that means that they would both be criticized. If I would to Ji-Li, it would be to follow what she wants, and not let other things bother you, and get into the way, because her Aunt is part of her family and she should help her if she is in trouble.

Mark | 33 comments In the nonfiction book, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Marjane is a strong girl and believes in fighting for what she believes in. Throughout the book, sometimes her actions are rebellious and they get her into trouble, but this doesn’t change her feeling or goals. Marjane grows up to become a "rebel" and, after an argument with one of her teachers, she is kicked out of school. Fearing that the country is no longer safe for their daughter, the Satrapis decide to send Marjane to Austria to attend a French school there. I would recommend this book to anyone who strongly believes in standing up for their beliefs similar to Marjane, because as a little girl to becoming a woman, her feelings on life remain the same despite the risk.

Ivan (ivanski711) | 30 comments In the fiction noval the warriors heir by Cindia W. Chinama my protagonist Jack is going through alot, so the advice I would give him is to train more in wizardry but still be a good warrior. Jack was born a wizard but grown to be a warrior. After he found this out he secritly began to train in boh subjects. He states" you wher born a wizard but a warrior stone was implanted in you when you were born,"(165). This quote supports my idea because sence he was born in wizardry he should focus more in that the doing warrior stuff. This also supports my idea because its only rigght to follow his roots.

Jack Brill | 41 comments In the non-fiction book "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi if I were to recommend it to people that sometimes doubt themselves or either have high standards for themselves. The reason why I would recommend this for people with those situations is in this book it is about a little girl with a big problem and she has high standards for herslef because she wants to become a prophet and many people doubt that she will ever become one.

In Bill Gutman's nonfiction book "Lance Armstrong: A Biography," it is about Lance's life from childhood to his career of being a cyclist. On September, 18, 1971, Lance was born in Oak Cliff, Texas. Lance grew up just like a normal kid, but with a single mother. As he got older, his mother got married to Terry Armstrong which gave Lance his last name. Soon, he received his first bike. He loved it saying it was like freedom to him when riding it. Lance didn't like the bike a lot at a young age even though he changed when he was older. Lance loved swimming and he was so good at it. He grew through that later on and got into bike racing. He was winning many champions at a young age, but then soon realized he got cancer. He knew it was at death's door, but it never happened. He keep training and never gave up. Lance knew he got tons more things to do. Lance actually survived cancer and was back on his road. Although he was still struggling so much, he kept trying. Now, he has proved his talent. Lance has beat cancer and also won many champions. He was special and he tries to continue for more. On page 76 in the book, "Lance literally flew over the hood over the car and landed in the road, headfirst." Then later on in the page, it wrote, "In layman's terms, Lance had a broken neck." Later on the page, "But in Lance's mind, he was riding in Sydney, no matter what. When he got back on the bike, he found he still couldn't turn his head easily, which made it difficult for him..." This shows how much Lance wanted to get back into the races. Even though Lance was badly hurt, he still didn't care and went on with pain all around him. In my opinion, this is why Lance keeps getting injured. Lance does happen to show a lot of hope in racing again, but it hurts him. Time after time, Lance keeps racing even though he is injured. My advice for him is to take a year off to relax and then continue. In that way, Lance can heal fully so he can do even better in the races. I think Lance is wearing out his body to fast and need to learn to use it slowly so he can last longer. Still, past is past, I will just hand advice for Lance to take time off to heal before getting on a bike again.

Emily | 14 comments In the non-fiction book The Story Of Blima by Shirley Russak Wachtel , i would recommend this book to people that have been through history problems or people that have been taken away from their families to live by themselves because of the problems being caused at the time. This book is for everyone to understand the living of people and how it changes their life just because of that problem caused by where they live. Like wars, wars is a big deal and affected a lot.

Trinity Burgos | 31 comments In the non-fiction book Ten Real Life Stories, illustrations by Hal Taylor, is about ten different stories from different people who expienced crazy things in there lives and how it influenced them in the future. I would recommened this book to basically anybody who has been through hard situations in their life or someone who could somewhat relate to the experiences these people had. The reason I would recommend this book would be because this book has many influential quotes not only just having to do with a specific story but just quotes on life lessons in general. For example, text states, ''While we can never turn back the clock, this story shows we can do the next best thing: we can turn our regrets into valuble lessons in living.'' This quote shows that even though you may make a mistake in your life and regreted it for a long period of time, you can still learn from what you've done and sometimes it might help you remember not to make the same mistake again. Which proves my point that most of these quotes can be very influential in peoples lives.

Sara | 17 comments In the non fiction book "Beautiful" by Amy Reed. A girl named Cassie moved from her town in Seattle to a better place. Cassie was a boring goodie good girl and she wants to change that. Cassie wants to become more invisible and wants people to notice her. Then one day everything changes for her because of one thing she chose. She started to get beat and abused and noone can help her not even the person she trusted the most. I would recommend this book to people who can either relate, or are interested in books like these on how people in books are having trouble with their life's and want to change it but then it becomes even worse for them. Those are the kind of people who i recommend this book too.

Monica | 43 comments Dust Lands is the second sequel of the first book, Blood Red Road. Saba, my protagonist has gotten herself in horrible trouble again! Just currently, after trying to go save her brother, trying to reach Hopetown, she and her sister met a couple. At first, they thought they were two harmless people since they had no weapns, but they were wrong. They later fed Saba and her sister, Emmi bad food that has sleep poison in it and they later woke up all bound up. Turns out that the woman from the couple had wanted to take Saba to help her with her career:cage fighting. Since Saba and Emmi were smart, they soon created a plan. In my opinion, I would give Saba lots of adcice. I think she shouldn't have listened to the couple. She shouldn't have went on their ship and sailed along with them even if they were going to the same destination. Her younger sister was right all along. "I don't like it, she says. An I don't like them. Not one little bit" (116). This was what Emmi told her big sister about what she thought of the couple. She didn't trust them at all and she was very aware. But at the moment, Saba did not think Emmi was right, and she walked straight into a trap. Saba was too stubborn, that was her problem and she let that problem take over and ruin her reputation.

Emily | 14 comments In the non fiction book Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, I recommend this book to the people that like reading about Revolutions and wars because this really shows a lot and what this girl has been through from her being 6 years old to 14 years old with all this happening during that time. The conflicts that had been going on, has affected them. The advice for my character is to stay strong and not to give up, keep fighting for what she wants because everybody's voice should be spoken.

Anson Wong | 12 comments In the non-fiction book Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. I would reccomend this book to anyone who loves fantasy books or a book that would allow you to visualize pictures in your head during your reading time. Artemis fowl is all about action and suspense because he is always doing some kind of master mind criminal or saving the world with the help of his fairy friends Holly,Foaly,Commander root until he died, and Mulch the dwarf. The advice i would give my character is none because he is perfect in everyway and his criminal mind and his bodyguard called Butler is very strong and always holds him down and has been with him since birth.

Seige | 17 comments In the book ''Rocket Boy'' By Homer Hickam, Jr. I would recommend this book to people who want to be a scientist in the future , or for people who just wanna build a rocket one day. This book was about a young kid named ''Sonny'' who lived in Coalwood West Virginia. He wanted to pursuit amateur rocketry because that was his fascination. I want to give a compliment to the narrator of this memoir because he demonstrated all of the details in his life and showed inch by inch of what he had to do to become an amateur rocketry. The narrator allows us to look into his live and how he lived it, not only that but his surroundings. I really like this book because my favorite subject is science , and i like to be involved with hands on activities/projects.

Jevel Gilbert | 18 comments In the fiction novel called "The hound of the Baskervilles" by Arthur conan Doyle. The book was about Sherlock Holmes and Dr.watson was solving a case about Baskerville being murder. They didn't know about the scientist who was the guy who got killed was his friends. However, the scientist was the one who killed his very oen friend because the baskerville was very rich but, he wouldn't give the scientist any money. The advice I would give to my protagnist is to check everybody that the scientist knows." Our case is not complete. The fellow is wary and cnning to the last degree. this proves that they hadn't figure out yet.
