For a “4”: Did I…. • Write a topic sentence that provided the title, author, and genre of my text? • Provide context of what is happening in the text, so my reader understands what I’m talking about? • Find a direct quote from the text that proves my idea? • Thoroughly explain the significance of my quote/how it proves my idea? • Check for correct punctuation and spelling?
In my book Small Steps by Louis Sachar, the advice I would give my protagonist, Theodore is to not go along with Rex's plan. Rex has a plan to buy tickets and sell them for more. I think Theodore should not go along with Rex's plan because if he gets caught he will go back to camp green lake. "On the back of each ticket, printed in bold letters HIS TICKET MAY NOT BE RESOLD"(39). This quote shows that the ticket may not be resold once bought. If Theodore gets caught he will in serious trouble, he might even get arrested again. My advice that Theodore should not go along with Rex's plan might keep him out of jail and out of trouble in the future.
In the non-fiction book, Jackie and Me by Dan Gutman, i would give advice to Joe to change your name when you go back time traveling. Joe got an assignment from his teacher to write about famous african american. He decides to write about Jackie Robinson. Joe has this power that he can go back in time if he has the baseball card. He goes to a guy named Flip and Flip lends the 1947 Jackie Robinson card. After going back in time he meets Jackie Robinson and sees his games. He has enough information for his report. He goes back home and forget his suitcase. He goes back with the same name and he sees Ant. Ant knows the same guy from before and confronts him. "The black boy told me his name was Joe. Now I can see that is your name too," For Joe that meant bad. he went back but he didnt get anything. He reaches in his pocket to find a Babe Ruth card and give it to his dad. The next day, he goes to school and gives his report. therefore, the advice I will give to Joe is to change your name before you go back in time again.
In Paul Volponi's realistic fiction novel, Black and White, the advice I would give to Marcus is to admit he and his friend, Eddie, robbed a store. Marcus is a teenage student who is a leader of his basketball team, along with Eddie. Marcus needed to pay his Senior Dues, but didn't have enough money. So, he and Eddie decided to rob a store's money to balance their money. When the cops ask Marcus questions, he decided to not answer any questions at all because Eddie was his best friend, and he knew Eddie wouldn't admit they robbed a store. Marcus stated,"Eddie's my bro. And I know he wouldn't admit it, too. We wouldn't do that to each other." This quote shows Marcus was too worried to admit it because he didn't want to bail and he would never do anything bad to Eddie. I think Eddie should just admit it because the cops will find out the suspects some day. So, why not just commit to the police and get this problem over with. Therefore, this is why I would give this advice to Marcus.
In the fictional novel, Bloodline by Kate Cary, the advice I would give my protagonist,John is to tell people your problems. John is a lieutenant in the french military in World War 1. He is about 19 years old and he is very appreciated by Captain Harker. They go on a raid and John is injured with a stab wound and has trench fever. He was restraint by the doctor while he was recovering because he was going crazy. They took them off because he had recovered but he had another nightmare. He states, " I will not tell anyone about this nightmare, for now the doctor has taken away those hateful restraints, I would not want them back"(91). This quotes shows how he will not tell anyone. I know no one likes to be retrained but he has to tell the doctor. The nightmare might be a sign that he is hallucinating and the doctor might have a cure. He will never know if the doctor was really going to restrain him. Therefore, the advice I would give John is to tell his doctor about his nightmare.
In the non- fiction book Yell- Oh Girls! by Vickie Nam I think the author is trying to teach all the non American girls especially asians to not let other people judge you. This whole book is about Asian girls who tell how life was like for them when they were in America and how they were made fun of for being the way they are. They all ended being made fun of for their culture, their family was apart, and people treated them unfairly to their race. " I am a girl. I am an Asian American girl. For a time in my life I was just an American girl and shortly after that I was just an Asian girl" (76). This quote shows that sometimes Asian girls don't know what to feel because they are made fun of in America and in their country they are American because of the way they act. The author tells us in the book to be what you are instead of being someone that isn't what you are.
In the non-fiction book, Inside a dog, i would give advice to the narrator is to talk more about the domestication's of dogs. The narrator talks about how dogs live and react with humans. he gives a very different point of view of how i see dogs now; and my own dog Otis.In the book it explains all about how dogs were created, but he should have explained how some dogs (like the Toy Poodle)are very small, and why do the very large dogs (like the Great Dane) come out to be so large.
In my fiction book the fire from the rock by Sharon M.Draper one an advise i would give my main character would be not to give up and go to the high school that she likes and not care what other people say because she is black. I will give her this advice because people are telling her that she should not go to high school because she is black. The high school that she is going is as high school that is full of white people she feels uncomfortable because she will be the only black person to be the first to leave her high school to go to another high school that is for the white people
In my nonfiction book, Tuesdays With Morrie, by Mitch Albom, the advice that the author is trying to tell the reader is that teachers like Morrie were great people. In the beginning of the book Mitch was in Morries class who happened to be an amazing dancer in his days, but he gave that up and is now doing his duty as a schools teacher.
In my non-fiction book, Ten Real Life Stories, by Beth Johnson, the advice I would give to Tyson Baxter because whhen he woke up after being drunk, he knew that he killed some of his friends. Tyson regreted what he did. Tyson Baxter states, "I regret for what I did and I am responsible for their life." This quote shows that how much Tyson regreted.
In the nonfiction novel, Chew On This, by Eric Schlosser, the advice my author or book is trying to give the audience, is to think twice about some of the things you eat. For example, did you know that the ingredients that makes your candy red, your drinks blue, and your yogurts pink? Well i do and it has legs...6 of them. Dactylopius coccus costa is a bug that eats on cactus leaves which gives the insides color. people find these bugs, smash them, and you eat them. Some people might not care about the bugs and still continue to eat foods that contains them, but others might think differently. In those delicious burgers at Mc Donalds, Burger King, Wendy's and other restaurants, contain E. coli. E. coli is a bacteria that can cause poisoning, and possibly death. If you don't cook your burgers thoroughly, you could become very sick and probably die. Therefore the author of my book is trying to tell the audience is to be careful of what you eat.
In Greg Howard William auto-biography Life on the ColorLine I would tell Greg to not to think so much and blame everything on his herritage. Greg is a young boy in the 1950's during segregation. He is mostly white but he is 1/4 black. Although he doses fand out until his family's bussines falls apart and his mother leaves his family. He is black on his father side of the family because his dad is half-black.Greg went to Garfield elementary school were he entered. spelling bee and lost and said "The prize did not go to negros.Just like in Louisville, there were things nd places only white only." This shows that he should stop blaming things in his heritage because.the reason he lost the spelling bee was because he spelled a.word wrong not because he was "black"even if that was true he was 3/4 white so he didn't lose because of that
In Jay Asher's realistic fiction novel Thirteen Reasons Why I would tell one of my protagonist, Hannah not to commit suicide.Teenage Hannah Baker is a sweet girl who is admired by many until a rumor is spreaded around school giving her a bad reputation. At first she didnt mind but then more rumors started spreading and people tried taking advantage of her and she started losing her friends. As things started to add onto Hannah's big pile of false rumors she stopped being herself."I soon began to give up.No one cared or even noticed me anymore I was invisible." Advice I would give Hannah is not to give up. She was going through a tough time in her life and nothing seemed to be going right, but if she would have found new people that actually cared about her like her admirer Clay she would still be alive. If she didnt give up on herself and really tried to reach out fro help im pretty sure she would get the help that she needed and found a place where she felt like she belonged and a place where she felt safe.
In my nonfiction novel Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer one advice I think I would give my character is to I think talk to his family and if he has any friends cause there is no point of leaving everything when it could have been probably different if he would have talk it out with someone. In my book my is very unhappy with his life and wants to erase it instead of fixing it like someone smart would do.When he is so lonely he decides to do the un thinkable and as a rich man he decides to leave his mansion and burn all his money beside the $25,000 he gave away to a charity. In the it states that "I haven't spoken to my family in nearly two years".(6).The quote I have chosen was picked because in the book he comes out and leaves and doesn't talk about it.
