What do you think?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I think if all your classes are worth more, than it should be worth the same, at least when there is no choice to take a higher course, or pay money to take a higher course

★RavenclawReader★ (stargazer101) | 36 comments I think that it shouldn't. Physical Education is a whole different thing than say, Algebra or Art History. Most people know how to kick a ball or use a baseball bat, but many are not good at it. In my schools, you are required to take PE for freshman year, and after that it is optional. I think thats okay, but I would prefer for it to begin being optional in high school.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I think it should be attempts/participation minded like it is for us

★RavenclawReader★ (stargazer101) | 36 comments Tab wrote: "I think it should be attempts/participation minded like it is for us"

Hmm, maybe in Elementary and Middle school, but once you get to High School I think it should be optional.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Actually that sounds nice

It does. Like Sofie, we're required to take it freshman year, and afterwards, it's optional. However, a grade should be based on what you learn, and PE grades are based upon participation, not what we learn, so therefore, our grade (which affects our GPA) is not based on learning, but rather what we participate in.

Yes, also in my school, it's graded on how fast we run, how good our volleyball serve is, etc. It's not really fair.

Leah (lepolk) | 3478 comments Mod
That stinks. Ours is participation.

★RavenclawReader★ (stargazer101) | 36 comments Leah wrote: "That stinks. Ours is participation."

It's participation in our middle and elementary schools, but not High. Ugh :(. I'm not very athletic, so I have a borderline B/C.

Agreed.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

haha

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

where graded on what we can do there push ups springs lung squats sit ups and jumping jacks

message 17: by T.J. (new)

T.J. No. How is it really relevant? If you're late for work, you can always run because gym in school prepared you for it? Haha--no.

message 18: by Yazid (Ciel) (new)

Yazid (Ciel) (plue) No. It's a basic subject but not included in the must-passed-list for SPM exam. Which is why, during Physical Education, we play much more than learning. And the teachers are fine with it which make us fine with them.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

i would love to go to your school then we have to do 40 minets of work outs and 15 of basketball or volly ball

message 20: by Yazid (Ciel) (new)

Yazid (Ciel) (plue) :o That sucks. I mean, I don't want to do that. But sometimes having PE here sucks to because it's so hot here and it makes me hot.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

lol where do you live if you dont mind me asking

message 22: by Yazid (Ciel) (new)

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

message 26: by Michaelhoctor (new)

Michaelhoctor | 59 comments Personally,

It depends on what you mean.

First- If it is based on your athletic skill, PLEASE GOD NOOOOO. T.T

Second- If it is based on effort, then sure, count it. Even though that means I could possibly fail.

I just meant in general

message 29: by Michaelhoctor (new)

Michaelhoctor | 59 comments Meh......
If i had to pick a side in that case, I would go with no :P
HOWEVER, at my school, the required class is Health/Gym, where we do Health class and GYM. In that case, I say yes.

message 30: by Leah, I'm HI-larious! (Head Mod) (new)

Leah (lepolk) | 3478 comments Mod
Yeah, it's required for freshmen at my school (which, thankfully, I just got through with).

message 31: by Michaelhoctor (new)

Michaelhoctor | 59 comments Ya, freshman is the last year you are REQUIRED to take Gym. So as of last December, I am free from that stuff!

message 32: by Leah, I'm HI-larious! (Head Mod) (new)

Leah (lepolk) | 3478 comments Mod
Same...there are electives like Advanced PE and Weight training, but I'd much rather take Speech and Debate or Creative Writing! :D Our semesters run until the end of January, so I JUST got done with it.

It should be weighted less than one's core classes and it should be more effort based than skill based.

message 34: by Chandana (new)

Chandana (jadedpoet) No way. Otherwise, my GPA of 4 goes plop!

Wonderland Forever | 99 comments whats a GPA

Wonderland Forever | 99 comments wait its a grade point verage .Whups.

Wonderland Forever | 99 comments Well, since I am almost in middle school. Our Gym class is a "special" I think we should get graded on our fitness tests ONLY. Cuz it isnt really cool if your graded on games.

message 38: by Dion, Keep calm and debate your topic (new)

Dion (my_booklove) | 446 comments Mod
You can't get graded on P.E. If you're athletic, then you're athletic! You can't change that, so why should you be marked down on it?! And if you try your best and participate, but can't do as well as others, why should you be marked down?! And if you're always going to be marked down, why try?!

message 39: by talltyrion (new)

talltyrion The only reason I have an A in Phys Ed is because there are literally about a hundred kids in that class, and three teachers. They can't look into all of us.

message 40: by talltyrion (new)

talltyrion Third is awful. I crave alternate days when I get study hall third period. But I guess it's better than another time...

message 41: by l (new)

l Ugh, I hate PE. I just makes me feel more awkward than I already am...It would be awful if your PE grade effected major things like your GPA. I'm usually an A average, but last year I got a D+ in PE.

TotalWhovian TARDIS girl (TotalWhovian) | 51 comments No, well it depends. If the student is legitely trying they whould get crdit on how well you try not on how well you are doing actively

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

I know at my school, a boy who participates all the time and is really good got a B., and a girl in my grade who talks in the outfield and does really participate as much as him got a A-. The boy, Heath, has a bit of an atitude, but everyone in my grade has one!

message 47: by Maddison (new)

Maddison (Brainyboots) | 463 comments no i don't think it should because a lot of people now of days have a issues with coordination and/or not very good at sports which means that their talents in a certain subject will be overshadowed

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

My best friend really dislikes gym cause whenever she makes a mistake, most of our peers yell at her or make fun of her. At my school, in high school, you have to take gym your sophmore and freshman year, so she can't wait until her juniour year which means no gym!!

Exactly! Also, females are looked down upon. So even if a guy makes the same mistake a girl does, the guy gets an "oh well" and the girl gets a "What the heck? You can't do anything!"
