This is my first post on goodreads.com :)

For the last month or so, I have been trying to find a suitable copy of Les Miserables for my shelf. I started reading the Hapgood translation (unabridged) on my kindle a couple weeks ago.

This one: http://www.amazon.com/Mis%C3%A9rables...

Now, I have been trying to find this book in print in an unabridged hardcover edition. An illustrated one would be nice, but hardcover is the only criteria I require. The only two print editions I could unearth are paperbacks. I'll put the links to those below. Has anyone had any luck with this?

This one may actually be abridged (960 pages): http://www.amazon.com/Miserables-Vict...

This one was published three days ago! It seems the only complete edition in print of the Hapgood translation: http://www.amazon.com/Les-Miserables-...

I tried looking up the site for that last one, the Word Cloud Classics, but I could not find a hardcover. I may end up settling for that one if I can't find what I've been looking for.

One last one I thought was my treasure was actually abridged. What a disappointment: http://www.amazon.com/Les-Miserables-...

Well, you've helped me... I am thrilled to learn I can buy Isabel Hapgood in print. I'm addicted to her translation and thought I was doomed to read Les Mis on my ereader only, which can be awkward.

Thank you for that link, I went and bought it straight away...I hate it when I get halfway through a book and I find out it's been abridged!

Thank you, I purchased this one that you linked: http://www.amazon.com/Les-Miserables-...

And just an FYI, one of the reviewers says it is a "flexiback," so more in between hardback and soft, just in case you can't find a hardback.

Will IV Oh, cool! It was less than 5 dollars with shipping when I got it, and I haven't read this version yet, but I've skimmed through it and I'm definitely ...more

Y'all sold me on Hapgood! Unfortunately I couldn't find many people talking about her translation until I read this thread.

So glad I bought this edition! Thanks!

As of 2015, there is an unabridged edition of the Hapgood translation available in hardcover from Canterbury Classics. = )

There have been eight different English translations of Les Miserables, six of them are still read, and two (including Hapgood) are in the public domain and thus available for free online.

To help people learn about the different editions of translated books and find copies of them, I built We Love Translations: World Literature in English. Here's my page about Les Miserables.
