message 2: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I would be reading the series book, but I went away for the weekend and forgot my Kobo :( Other than that I've been reading 'Damaged' by Pamela Callow. It's a mystery/thriller that centers on a female lawyer, it's good so far....I'm 30% in.

message 3: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I'm loving our series read; it's a good one :-). Is this the book you're talking about Joanne ~ Damaged Damaged by Pamela Callow ? It looks interesting.

I have a feeling in this thread people are going to be adding a lot more books on their TBR shelf, lol.

message 4: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments that's the one! a friend recommended it, it's a Canadian author part of a series. so far there are 3, I'm not sure if there is going to be anymore.

message 5: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments ooohhh, a Canadian author. I'm Canadian...I should check this series out :-)

message 6: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments that's one of the reasons I started reading it, I want to try and read note Canadian and local authors this.

message 9: by Savanes (last edited Jan 20, 2013 03:36AM) (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments I'm currently reading :
- A Storm of Swords A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3) by George R.R. Martin : It's amazing so far except it's 1000 pages so it's taking quite some time to read.
- Bright Young Things Bright Young Things (Bright Young Things, #1) by Anna Godbersen : I just finished an hour ago. It was great (4*). I will continue the series.
- The Lost Hero The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan : I will start today
- 1001 petites choses que vous ignoriez sur la sexualité:Insolites, étonnantes, bizarres ...mais vraies ! : It's a fun read (in French) that list weird facts about sexuality throughout time. The kind of book I like to read when I have 5 minutes to spare
- The House At Riverton The House At Riverton by Kate Morton : It's so slow, I'm seriously considering not finishing it but so many people liked it... so I'm undecided.
- Notre Ami, Le Roi Notre Ami, Le Roi (Au Vif Du Sujet) by Gilles Perrault : a Very very interesting book about the past Moroccan king (Hassan II)

message 10: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Wow, lots of reading Vanessa :-). I have Bright Young Things from the library but haven't gotten around to starting it yet and it's due back pretty soon...maybe I should read it, lol. I also have House at Riverton sitting on my bookshelf, but I own it, so that one I can wait to read.

I'm currently reading
The Lost Hero The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan (natch!)
Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin - a murder mystery
Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan - because it was recommendation from a friend for our Secret Santa read, so I really need to finish this one up :-) and also it's a BOTM from another club here on Goodreads
-
Send Me a Sign Send Me a Sign by Tiffany Schmidt - story about a young girl (17 years old) who has leukemia; a BOTM for another Goodreads club
The Name of the Wind The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss - This is my son's all time favorite book and he really wants me to read this; I should be reading this one until I finish it, but other good books keep calling me to them. I NEED to finish this one; it's the longest one I've been reading, since December. It's also the largest book, over 500 pages and that's probably why I'm not going through it as quickly as the others.

message 11: by Ajay (new)

Ajay | 4 comments I am reading Twisted by Andrea Kane..So far it's brilliant.

message 12: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I just looked up Twisted Twisted (FBI #1) by Andrea Kane I love FBI mysteries and crime whodunits. Thanks for posting about this read Ajay!

message 13: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Twisted looks good, that may be my next, next read!

message 14: by Mariska (new)

Mariska Almost done reading Left Neglected by Lisa Genova. Read the book in only 4 days, can't put it aside. Makes you think of how you just take some things for granted, how normal it is to see the world as a whole, right and left.

message 15: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I love her books Mariska!

message 16: by Mariam (new)

Mariam Gallier Omg twisted seems really good i'll have to read it after i finish my book. My book is pretty good its called shock point by april henry!

message 17: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Left Neglected and Shock Point look like good reads too Mariska and Mariam. You'll have to come back here and tell us how you rate them after you finish reading "-)

message 18: by Mariska (new)

Mariska Finished it this morning, thought it was a very interesting topic. I kept reading, wanting to know the progress. I gave the book 4 stars. Loved reading it but thought it started kinda slow and was predictable at a lot of subjects. Loved to read how positive their live stayed with the circumstances. I would definitely recommend this book!

message 19: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Mariska, thanks for your review of Left Neglected by Lisa Genova . I hadn't realized it was by the same author as Still Alice, which is already on my TBR list. I will be adding this one too, said with a sheepish grin as my TBR list is getting quite out of control! :-)

message 20: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3 comments Hi I am new here!! Are the discussions here archived?? I would find it interesting to see what books have been considered in the past. Ty

message 21: by Ajay (new)

Ajay | 4 comments I finished twisted and i am really disappointed. The second half was horrible and felt the author just didn't try enough to make it a tight thriller. There were so many clues given way too early. Also i thought the author never intended to put her main leads in tight corners. It was all easy in the end.

@cathie: If u really want a gr8 whodunit then try The Bubble Gum Thief. Don't waste ur time on twisted.

Liz (hissheep) Cathie wrote: "Mariska, thanks for your review of Left Neglected by Lisa Genova. I hadn't realized it was by the same author as Still Alice, which is already on my TBR list. I will be adding this one too, ..."

... and I just finished "Love Anthony" by the same author. "Still Alice" is still my fave ;o)

message 23: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Hi Jane! Welcome:-). We are a new group so nothing is archived! Every thread is current as our readings and most of the discussions began this January. You've come at the perfect time!

Thanks for the recommendation and heads up Ajay :-).

You guys stop it, lol. Just kidding :-). Another book to read; thanks Liz, lol. This group is great in the sharing of good reads :-). Thank you to all who participate!

message 24: by Mariam (new)

Mariam Gallier Mariam wrote: "Omg twisted seems really good i'll have to read it after i finish my book. My book is pretty good its called shock point by april henry!"

Sure will do :D

message 25: by Shirley (new)

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) I am listening to
The Rook

The Rook by Daniel O'Malley

I was intrigued from the first paragraph.

Primordial Offering (primordialoffering) Narcissus and Goldmund by Hesse . it's really deep but slower than I expected

message 27: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Let us all know how you liked it when you're finished Dhastings06! :-)

message 28: by Whitney (new)

Whitney I just finished The Oath by Jeffrey Toobin, which is about the Roberts Supreme Court. It was fascinating. For a light read, I also just read The Racketeer, which is the new John Grisham. That was really great too. Now I'm starting Gone Girl, so I can participate in the discussion and I am also starting the Emperor of All Maladies for some nonfiction.

Can someone who is not new here tell me how to add the book jacket icons to my posts??

message 29: by Cyndi (new)

Cyndi (cyndijan) I'm currently *gasp* without a book! I am, however, in the middle of reading and reviewing several scripts for our community theatre's next season. I also just finished Book 5 in the Sookie Stackhouse series (came into it WAY late in the game), and War Brides. I'm in need of a novel!

message 30: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Hi Whitney. If you click on the add book/author link that is directly over the reply book you write your message in then all you do is add the name of your book and press search and a listing will appear. You select your book by choosing either, or sometimes both (only one at a time) link or cover, which is a little button at the bottom of the pop-up box.

Give it a try with your book selections; it's very easy :-)

message 31: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Cyndi, We are starting The Casual Vacancy The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling on February 1st (as a group)

We are also currently reading The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan

message 32: by Carla (new)

Carla (Carla's Book Bits) (carlasbookbits) I've got The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling ordered from the library, but the waiting list is SO long, that I don't think I can make it for this month's group read of it. :(

As of lately, I've been reading Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth , but slower than usual. School's been taking up too much time. x_x

message 33: by Singing Bowl (new)

Singing Bowl I liked Divergent, it was a fun read. I'll probably pick up the sequel after a few books. I'm currently readinging Adaptation (Adaptation, #1) by Malinda Lo .

message 34: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Johanna, the Casual Vacancy thread/discussion will be up for the entire year (although it may be moved to an Archives folder later in the year). You can join in the discussion whenever you read it. I have a feeling this book will be discussed for quite awhile.

Oh goodie! I'm real excited to read this book too. Unfortunately, the rest of my city is, too, which explains the waiting list, lol. But I'll definitely be reading it this year. :-)

message 36: by Laura (new)

Laura Laporta I'm currently reading "Rebecca" by Adam J. Nicolai. I just finished his book "Alex", it was great! It's in the paranormal Genre. Rebecca was recently released so there aren't many reviews, but if it was as good as "Alex" I'm all in!

message 37: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I've started the 3rd Pamela Callow book, I thought it was the second one and didn't realize until I was a chunk in that it's not. this one seems more fast paced than the 1st one, which is good :)

message 38: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Did you enjoy the first book Joanne? (I guess they don't really have to be read in order?)

message 39: by Cathie (last edited Jan 23, 2013 06:26PM) (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Let us know your thoughts on Rebecca when you're done Laura. It looks like a pretty disturbing read!

message 40: by Laura (new)

Laura Laporta Will do :)

message 41: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Sorry, I edited my post on my reply to you Laura; I went and read the synopsis and thought...oh boy...not sure how I feel about the subject matter. Sounds grim, but some books are so well written that no matter what the subject they are great books. I'm really looking forward to what you think on this one :-)

message 42: by Laura (new)

Laura Laporta That's what I thought when I started reading Alex. It was a free book and it had such high ratings that I had to make it a priority. It was very disturbing - very - any books about children are, but once I got to the end of it, it made total sense and it brought forth a REAL life element. I have children of my own, so I'm sensitive with children subjects - but it reminded me of the lovely bones. Though Rebecca sounds Grimm, I'm hoping for the same surprise as Alex.

message 43: by Ajay (new)

Ajay | 4 comments I am currently reading Shatter..I like psychological thrillers and this one is pretty good till now.

message 44: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments I did like it, though I found the first half a little slow. I'm not sure if it's the book or that I needed a break as I started it straight after Gone Girl. I stopped about a 1/3 of the way in, read the hero's of Olympus book and then went back to it. by the time I hit 50% I was into the book, decided to finish the chapter I was on before bed last night and ended up finishing the whole thing.

message 45: by Jojo (new)

Jojo (jojosbooknook) | 717 comments Oh and no you can read them out of order, but it's the same protagonist in each book and so far most of the supporting characters are the same too.

message 46: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Whoa, Shatter sounds like a really good read, Ajay! Joanne, your book reading consumption is amazing, lol!
Laura, I'm really looking forward to your thoughts on Rebecca when you get done; I may just have to add these 2 books to my TBR list...maybe...I'll wait to see what your thoughts are; it might just nudge me to think about reading them.

message 47: by Lynn, Moderator (new)

Lynn | 4466 comments Mod
I'm currently reading The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce , only just started but seems promising.

message 48: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments I've heard that's a really good book Lynn; let us know how it goes.

message 49: by Nikki (new)

Nikki | 9 comments I'm reading Fame, the 1st book in the Firstborn series. Has anyone read it?

message 50: by Bajen (new)

Bajen I am currently reading A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin , a huge read but loving it. I wanted to read for a very long time and I am not regretting it at all.
I am also reading The Associate by John Grisham as part of an 'Authors Challenge'. Unfortunately it is taking me a while to finish this one because of the bigger book above.
