The 104 Book Challenge - 2013 discussion

Hi! I hope to try to make it to 104 books again this year.

1. Heloise and Abelard: A New Biography - James Burge (nonfiction) (Bound Together)

I have been interested in them since I saw the large monument to them in Pere LaChaise Cemetary. I've had this one sitting around for a while, but I decided to read it to fit with an off the shelf challenge for bound together. It was dry. Like eating saltines without water. The guy obviously likes the philosophy of Abelard and enjoys the letters, but his writing is a bit difficult.

2. In the Garden of Beasts - Erik Larson (nonfiction) (bound together)

I have read 2 other of his books and enjoyed them, and this was no exception. I was not in a good holiday mood this year and this book hit the spot - if you aren't in the holiday mood, nothing like a book about Nazis.

3. The Orchid Affair - Lauren Willig (historical fiction/romance)

I was looking for a light read after the past two books. This was not that light a read, unfortunately. Still a really good read.

4. A Touch of Dead-Charlaine Harris (short stories about Sookie Stackhouse)

A collection of previously published stories from different anthologies. I really didn't like the last story (icky!) but I liked the rest.

5. Dead to You-Lisa McMann (ya) (bound together)
Ok for a YA, with nice characterization and a surprise ending.

Not to laugh, but I totally get what you mean. Hope that your 2013 is better than your Christmas. Also, congratulations on finishing up 2012!
