I love this thought from Cassie, "I try to find the beauty in things."

Karen Krstinovski | 18 comments I felt bad for Cassie, as she was going through her mental break down. Mental illness, is one of hardest disease to talk, as people view you differently, and are judgmental of you and your family and second quest your or up bringing.

Ayanna, did someone you knew, or a family member, experience some of these tragedies or have a mental break down, that were close to some of the characters in the book?

April | 9 comments Poor Sala. But Hattie is determined to "do right" with this one. Now she will have the time to "do right". She is older and wiser. She now knows that children need love and affection along with the other necessities. Also, August has finally calmed down so he shouldn't be causing Hattie near as much grief. I truly have faith in Hattie. I really, really believe that she will raise Sala with all that has and she will "do right" by Sala. Sala is hope. Sala will lead a "normal" life free of dysfunction. Sala will be the one who make it all worth it. I believe this because Hattie and her family deserve some happiness. After all this turmoil and dysfunction and sadness, this family deserves to smile and to be uplifted though little Sala. Unfortunately, schizophrenia is hereditary. But there is still a chance, there is still hope. I have tremendous hope and faith in Sala as the champion of this family and this novel.
