The Mortal Instruments Series LOVERS! :P discussion
we got a new snippet for CoHF

I just saw this yesterday but didn't get a chance to read it.
That's very interesting...I wonder who Clare is talking about, maybe someone we haven't met yet like a new character? At first I thought, it could be Clary but Clary is a Shadowhunter so it can't be her...plus, this part: "She had always been fascinated by Shadowhunters but had never thought she would find one whose personality she could stand for more than five minutes, until Sebastian." which makes me think another villain? I am thinking this girl is most likely a Downworlder since she can't be a Shadowhunter, she's obviously not a mundane or a human, and I doubt she's a demon...so downworlder most likely and maybe she kind of saves Sebastian or is his saviour in a way? So maybe that means there is a possibility that Sebastian CAN BE redeemed...even if he does have a lot of demon blood in him. The thing with Sebastian we all have to remember is that he still has a heart and human qualities (i.e. all those little things he did for his sister, Clary, even though he did turn violent in the end of CoLS) so I don't think all hope is lost with him and this snippet just proves it.

I just came up with something, what if the Downworlder in question whose point of view that is in the snippet, is actually the Seelie Queen? She does dislike Shadowhunters, and she is close to Sebastian judging by CoLS when she sent Meilorn to talk to him and tell him she and the fay are on his side...Plus, I do not think they ever met before so I think it could very well be her.
What do you guys think?
What do you guys think?

Courtney, I agree with you but even disregarding the quote on "always being fascinated with Shadowhunters" which could also mean a character that just hasn't been introduced yet...but at the same time, it seems highly unlikely to me that Cassie Clare would introduce a major character in the last book in the series...Okay, true Camille was first mentioned in the series in book four but she still was in two books and she didn't actually play a major role...apart from trying to ruin Magnus' and Alec's relationship in her own way...and this character, judging by the snippet, has to be a very important one especially judging by her "initial attachment" or "fascination" with Sebastian...My only question is, would the Seelie Queen have the heart to fall in love or would she ever? I mean, I know she almost seems as cold and cruel as Sebastian from what we read about her in the books, but somehow she does not strike me as a person to form any sort of emotional bond to any character...and she seems that way judging by that snippet if it is about her...Also, my knowledge of the Seelie Queen joining Sebastian is the fact that her only purpose in joining Sebastian was so the faeries don't get wiped out in the war for choosing to side against him..not because she "cares" about him.

I also had a lingering question of whether the Seelie Queen could ever fall in love. From what I can remember of all the books in TMI, I cannot draw on a single instance where she displays any kind of capacity for love. And I don't recall any mention of her being involved with anyone in the past. But then again is she really looking at Sebastian in this snippet as someone she cares for and has an emotional bond with? Or is this soon after Sebastian is found and nearly dead and she's simply looking at him reflecting on her thoughts of Shadowhunters in general? I agree with you that the Seelie Queen's joining Sebastian was so that she was on the winning side and not because of any affection towards him.
Another thing...when I initially read the snippet, I thought that it was from some character who has been around for a while. But another conflicting thought came to mind which seems unlikely with the rest of the snippet but I might as well mention it anyway. The thought that came to mind was that this unknown female character might be someone who is younger, solely because of the word choice "she could stand for more than five minutes." When I read that part I didn't imagine an older character saying it, but rather someone around Clary/Jace/Alec/Isabelle's age or younger even. But the only person that comes to mind then is Maureen...and I doubt that she's been a vampire long enough to come into contact with too many Shadowhunters. Though by the end of CoLS, Maureen's caused quite a bit of trouble and take's over Camille's vampire clan..so she has the potential to be a threat.
Courtney, that's a good point...She could be just looking at him when he's nearly found dead or wounded and is reflecting...but I thought the whip lashes might be from Valentine, Sebastian's father from a long time ago...? but also like you said, it could be the faeries save him and he's taken into their court to heal although Sebastian never striked me as one to get hurt...Sure, he isn't invulnerable but I don't remember now, did he actually get hurt in the series? Besides the obvious in City of Glass when Jace stabs him...but I am talking about in CoLS. And that's a good point about it being someone maybe younger...It could be Maureen but at the same time, Maureen doesn't really seem to care about much other than killing and of course, her fangirl crush on Simon. It has to be someone who isn't a Shadowhunter so I am thinking Downworlder...it can't be one of the wolves because to me it seems the wolves like shadowhunters unless it's a rogue one and I don't think she'd introduce new characters again...vampire seems highly unlikely too and we haven't met very many female vampires other than Camille and Maureen. Camille is dead, and Maureen seems unlikely...I am thinking maybe warlock but the only female warlock we know of is Tessa and it can't be her because she loves and lived among the Nephilim...So my bet is still on the Seelie Queen though now Maureen is starting to seem like a vague possibility especially since I think Sebastian would be more likely to get her on his side. Make sense?
Karina, it can't be Clary because Clary is a Shadowhunter and in that snippet it said how she (whoever "she" is) has never met a Shadowhunter whose presence she could stand for more than 5 minutes.

His eyes shone when he looked at her, green as spring grass.
He has always had green eyes, said the voice in her head. People often marvel at how much alike you are, he and your mother and yourself. His name is Jonathan and he is your brother; he has always protected you.
Somewhere in the back of Clary’s mind she saw black eyes and whip marks, but she didn’t know why. He’s your brother. He’s your brother, and he’s always taken care of you.

A moment later, Helen had returned; she was walking slowly now, and carefully, her hand on the back of a thin boy with a mop of wavy brown hair. He couldn’t have been older than twelve, and Clary recognized him immediately. Helen, her hand firmly clamped around the wrist of a younger boy whose hands were covered with blue wax. He must have been playing with the tapers in the huge candelabras that decorated the sides of the nave. He looked about twelve, with an impish grin and the same wavy, bitter-chocolate hair as his sister.
Jules, Helen had called him. Her little brother.
The impish grin was gone now. He looked tired and dirty and frightened. Skinny wrists stuck out of the cuffs of a white mourning jacket whose sleeves were too short for him. In his arms he was carrying a little boy, probably not more than two years old, with the same wavy brown hair that he had; it seemed to be a family trait. The rest of his family wore the same borrowed mourning clothes: following Julian was a brunette girl about ten, her hand firmly clasped in the hold of a boy the same age: the boy had a sheet of tangled black hair that nearly obscured his face. Fraternal twins, Clary guessed. After them came a girl who might have been eight or nine, her face round and very pale between brown braids.
The misery on their faces cut ay Clary’s heart. She thought of her power with runes, wishing that she could create one that would soften the blow of loss. Mourning runes existed, but only to honor the dead, in the same way that love runes existed, like wedding rings, to symbolize the bond of love. You couldn’t make someone love you with a rune, and you couldn’t assuage grief with it, either. So much magic, Clary thought, and nothing to mend a broken heart.
“Julian Blackthorn,” said Jia Penhallow, and her voice was gentle. “Step forward, please.”
Julian swallowed and handed the little boy he was holding over to his sister. He stepped forward, his eyes darting around the room. He was clearly scouring the crowd for someone. His shoulders had just begun to slump when another figure darted out onto the stage. A girl, also about twelve, with a tangle of blond hair that hung down around her shoulders: she wore jeans and a t-shirt that didn’t quite fit, and her head was down, as if she couldn’t bear so many people looking at her. It was clear that she didn’t want to be there — on the stage or perhaps even in Idris — but the moment he saw her, Julian seemed to relax. The terrified look vanished from his expression as she moved to stand next to him, her face ducked down and away from the crowd.
“Julian,” said Jia, in the same gentle voice, “would you do something for us? Would you take up the Mortal Sword?”

Isabelle tugged her tank top back down and glared at her brother. “You don’t knock now?”
“It’s my bedroom!” Alec spluttered.

Alec and Magnus are both summoned to Idris in CoHF and must interract
Tessa may appear in CoHF ... but plenty of reasons for her to appear in The Dark Artifices

“No killing,” Jordan said. “We’re trying to make you feel peaceful, so you don’t go up in flames. Blood, killing, war, those are all non-peaceful things. Isn’t there anything else you like? Rainforests? Chirping birds?”
“Weapons,” said Jace. “I like weapons.”
“I’m starting to think we have a problematic issue of personal philosophy here.”
Jace leaned forward, his palms flat on the ground. “I’m a warrior,” he said. “I was brought up as a warrior. I didn’t have toys, I had weapons. I slept with a wooden sword until I was five. My first books were medieval demonologies with illuminated pages. The first songs I learned were chants to banish demons. I know what brings me peace, and it isn’t sandy beaches or chirping birds in rainforests. I want a weapon in my hand and a strategy to win.”
Jordan looked at him levelly. “So you’re saying that what brings you peace … is war.”
“Now you get it.”

“What do I care?” Jace said, so loudly that Chairman Meow rolled off the couch and landed on the floor. “Of course I care about Alec; he’s my best friend, my parabatai. And he’s unhappy. And so are you, by the look of things. Takeout containers everywhere, you haven’t done anything to fix up the place, your cat looks dead—“
“He’s not dead.”

"The Clave has the collective intelligence of a pineapple," said Jace.
Alec blinked up at them. "Jace is right."
Isabelle turned on her brother. "What do you know? You weren't even paying attention."
"I was," Alec said, injured. "I said Jace was right."
"Yeah, but there's like a 90% chance of me being right most of the time, so that's not proof you were listening," said Jace. "That's just a good guess."

Jace shrugged. "Guys don’t let other guys keep calling other guys. Okay, that came out wrong. Friends don't let friends keep calling their exes and hanging up. Seriously. You have to stop."
Alec looked furious. "So you broke my brand new phone? Thanks a lot."
Jace smiled serenely and lay back on the grass. "You're welcome."

He didn’t seem to have recovered from her last comment. “But do you mean — wait, do I have what?”
She slitted her eyes at him. “Something important.”
“Like what? The phone number for the White House?” A moment later, under her withering glare, realization dawned. “Oh.” His was the expression of someone who has run out of gas in the middle of the desert, miles from help. “I … “

Jace shrugged. “Guys don’t let other guys keep calling other guys. Okay, that came out wrong. Friends don’t let friends keep calling their exes and hanging up. Seriously. You have to stop.”
Alec looked furious. “So you broke my brand new phone? Thanks a lot.”
Jace smiled serenely and lay back on the grass. “You’re welcome.”
“I think,” Jace said, “that you don’t want to tell your secrets, so you decided to break up with Alec because..”

“Now you get it.”
“We shouldn’t,” protested Isabelle. “The Clave has a plan.”
“The Clave has the collective intelligence of a pineapple,” said Jace.
Alec blinked up at them. “Jace is right.”
Isabelle turned on her brother. “What do you know? You weren’t even paying attention.”

Magnus rolled onto his back and put his feet up on the arm of the sofa. “What do you care if Alec’s miserable?”
“What do I care?” Jace said, so loudly that Chairman Meow rolled off the couch and landed on the floor. “Of course I care about Alec; he’s my best friend, my parabatai. And he’s unhappy. , and i didnt need to hunt it down again
remind me to refresh my computer next time lol
what do you think this means:
She turned to look at Sebastian, lying on the bed. He was shirtless, and even in the dim light the old whip weals across his back were visible. She had always been fascinated by Shadowhunters but had never thought she would find one whose personality she could stand for more than five minutes, until Sebastian.
Cassie says: And 2) To celebrate getting all the way to the finals, here is a snippet from City of Heavenly Fire that I hope will be extremely mystifying. It does refer back to something in Lost Souls… (taken from this post http://cassandraclare.tumblr.com/post...)
