To Think of Elephants discussion

I absolutely love this book! It was so effective in explaining the idea that success isn't completely about how talented a person is, but rather, the circumstances that brought you there.

One point that is key from this book: TEN THOUSAND HOURS. It will take ten thousand hours of doing what you do best to become successful in that field.

Yup. Ten thousand hours. Ask any professional musician. They often say ten or more years because you can work at your craft only so many hours per day.

Interestingly, Mozart took 20 years to compose his first truly great masterpiece, according to someone Malcolm Gladwell quoted in his book. I guess someone didn't practice enough...;)

But Mozart began composing as a very young child and music composition is a high level skill. Twenty years to a really great masterpiece? We should all be so fortunate! ;-)
