Tawny Stokes (tawny_stokes) | 4 comments I've read this book. I had high expectations going in, and was really let down. I thought the first 1/3 was strong and interesting and then it turned into just another book.

Anna (amartinischwob) | 146 comments It was one of my favorite reads last year!!! Great stuff, I already preordered my copy of Unravel Me :) TEAM ADAM!

I actually really agree, I was blown away in the beginning and even the middle was pretty interesting but then when the end (view spoiler) happened I was like ho-hum I'm not as impressed as I once was.

I did absolutely adore Warner though he was just the right amount of crazy/sexy/evil. I did not like him as a love interest for Juliette though, just as a character. His lines were some of my favorite.

Just started it. So far I think it's pretty good. I really want to learn more on Adam even though he seems to be on the opposite side. I also hope the book shows more of her history. Right now they've just told her they want to use her as a weapon and honestly I really want her to be a weapon and see how her power works. Also this society is so different and it has that eary feeling if death. In other societies in books they're usually so 'perfect' but this one seems more realistic and possible. One thing that does confuse me is, If so many people are dying from food poisoning and there's not much left for some then why is the government wasting money, and products of food on prisoners. I understand she's special but its a bit confusing same for the other people. And im wondering if they have powers to if they're still alive. I mean in a society like this why keep the insane people around? Anyways hope to learn more ! :D

I listened to the audiobook of Shatter Me and LOVED it!

Sometimes a really good narrator can make a book SOOO much better. I have certain books I read and others that I listen to. Anybody else do that?

I just got my first audiobook, I've never even thought about listening to a book probably out of habit of just reading it. I have found if I am doing something else while listening I stopped hearing what was going on and had to back track though lol. I'd probably think about getting another, it is certainly convient for driving or working etc

Brigid ✩ I thought this book had a lot of potential––but like Tawny, I felt really let down by it. I didn't feel any attachment to the characters, I couldn't get myself to believe in the romance, there were too many convenient plot twists (view spoiler), the pacing was all over the place, and the writing style drove me nuts ... There were too many metaphors and most of them literally made no sense at all. And the strike-throughs bothered me a lot, too. So yeah ... I was not a fan. Cool premise, but the execution wasn't very good in my opinion.

I totally agree with you on the strike-throughs and the metaphors. Way to many of them. I mean sometimes they help a book just not every page. And the way chapters are introduced is really a bit annoying so far too. I'm not that far in, but I hope it improves. I just wish her feelings were more clear and not slashed through. I mean if we can still read them, what's the point. Also the repetition is a bit annoying too. I'm where they've just went outside for the first time in how many ever days she's been in there.

message 10: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ Exactly ... I have nothing against metaphors, but they should be used sparingly and they should actually make sense. Like at one point she said something like, "his chest makes the sound of a broken harmonica" and I'm just like ... WHAT. And I think the strike-throughs is an interesting technique, but used way too much and not in a really effective way. It just got tiresome to read after a while. Oh yeah, and the repetition repetition repetition. :P Almost forgot about that ... It annoyed the heck out of me.

Well, at least the pace picks up a bit after that. Haha. Good luck with finishing it! Hopefully you enjoy it more than I did ...

I think this book really stands out. It is different from anything else I've read, and that says alot for a book in todays market. I'm actually listening to Unravel Me and the romance has went from warm to HOT!

For those of you interested, there is a novella, Destroy Me, that is in Warner's POV. You should read it after Shatter Me. Very interesting!

Emily (emilyblake) | 25 comments I absolutely LOVED this book! I read it when it first came out and it took a while for me to get used to the writing style, but this book was so good! Love Adam!! <3

I was so confused whether to side with Adam or Warner after and even more after I read Destroy Me and Unravel Me! The writing style is really detailed too (which I like)
