Retha (rethagroenewald) Thanks Tanya. Did you see how healthy I started? Now I can jump into all those other goodies - fantasy, mystery, etc

I absolutely love it! I recently transitioned into vegetarian breakfasts, lunches and snacks and it has made an enormous positive impact on my weight and health, as well as my skin and hair... Well, veggie meals and cleaner eating habits all around :-)

Right now I'm going through Cooking with Trader Joe's Pack a Lunch (by Celine Cossou-Vordes.) It has a number of vegetarian recipes and in fact I'm about to try the Endive, Pear, Bleu Cheese and Walnut Salad :-)

We have much in common. I am newly vegetarian as well. I feel so much better and have lost weight without trying. I also don't eat much dairy or sugar.
The Everything Guide to Macrobiotics: A Practical Introduction to the Macrobiotic Lifestyle - And How It Can Work for You is an excellent book with lots of fairly easy recipes. I m going to check out the Trader Joe's book.

I'm not completely vegetarian, but when I do eat meat, it's very lean if it's not fish/seafood! It's still a dramatic change from the way I was eating just two years ago! I currently live in Oregon where organic produce and farm-to-table meats are readily available. This has been a huge help in my "reating cleaner" initiative and in my weight-loss campaign (currently I've lost 65 pounds. Just a little more to go!)

I hadn't thought about looking for a macrobiotic cookbook! I got turned onto macrobiotic cuisine when I was in college. In Boston, there used to be a macrobiotic restaurant called, Open Sesame which served the most amazing dishes! Sadly, it closed quite a few years ago, but I remember it with wistfulness. I'll definitely get my hands on The Everything Guide... and check it out! :-)

MichelleCH (lalatina) Retha, sorry to hijack your thread! It's just so cool to meet other people who are into healthy eating. Macrobiotic eating has so many neat principles that make sense ie. eating seasonally. It bugs me to see strawberries and other tropical fruits front and center at the store while there are piles of snow outside :(

My son goes to school in Boston, we often go up to have dinner with him and his girlfriend. I am sure there are macrobiotic restaurants I should check out. Open Sesame is such a cool name.

Retha (rethagroenewald) MichelleCH, I have no problem with hijacking a thread - planes and cars yes lol
I agree with what you say. I live in South Africa so no snow and plenty veggies and fruits in season

MichelleCH (lalatina) Thanks Retha! Sounds wonderful to me - we are bracing for yet another snow storm!
