Durzo and the path of Curoch

The first time I remember reading of Curoch was during the Khalidoran invasion of Cenaria in book 1. Dorian and his crew are using it to slash through the Khalidorans while Durzo and Kylar are fighting elsewhere in the castle. While the swords importance was noticed (because not just any sword has a name) I had no idea just how important it would become. Now that I know just how dangerous this sword really was and Durzo task concerning the sword I can't help but wonder; did Durzo screw up really bad?

Durzo has got to be one of my favorite characters ever. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but for hundreds of years Durzo only had one job; to keep Curoch away from Lures. This isn't discovered until this last book, but I keep on going back to the first time we see Curoch. When the Khalidorans invade not only was Curoch just a few feet away the Lures (Retribution), but he also just happened to entrust Lures to a kid that he was trying to kill. So I'd like to talk about this a little. Did I misinterpret all this, or did do a horrible job?

Every book is up to the reader's interpretation. That's how Weeks loves to write his books.

In all honesty, I think Durzo knew from the beginning what would happen (or at least thought he did) and was merely pushing it along. Durzo has lived a long time and probably learned the lesson of unpredictability and doing the opposite of what 'makes sense.' Again, it is just one way of interpreting it.

I have a feeling some of the importance, and story surrounding Curoch and Lures, may have evolved a little later in his writing of the series, hence the near catastrophe.
