I think his novel "Horns" would definitely make a great ....horror?.....movie. I mean it's such a unique story. But "Heart-Shaped Box....I loved the book, but most movies done about ghosts are so mediocre.
UPDATE: Aug. 2, 2019.... Still no sign of a HSB movie but they did a Horns movie...ugh...HORRID!!!!. They skipped over so many great sections in the book...OMG!!!! WHY DID THEY BOTHER MAKING IT. It's like they didn't read the book (which is incredible) but read the cliffnotes, it was so bad. If you haven't read the book then it's an ok movie.... mediocre movie. Now ther's a show on tv based on his book NOS4A2. I wanted to read that book but not now. Thank God I read GOT books before the show I mean I watched the 1st couple episodes....then I couldn't watch anymore. 2 great characters in that show...Sean Beans character & Peter Dinklage's character. To me the rest of the cast is mediocre to bad.

Patty Holly I loved this book enough to give any movie adaptation a chance. I think in order for the creepy imagery and suspense of the novel to truly be conveyed ...more

No, in my humble opinion, this was not the best book the author has written. A movie might improve the story though.

I'm always skittish about film adaptations, but for some reason I kept thinking this would make a great movie if done right. I kept thinking Gary Oldman would be amazing as Jude. Scarlett Johansen or Bryce Dallas Howard as Mary Beth. Maybe even Evan Rachel Wood.

The director, of course, would ultimately make the film. Somebody like James Wan or Takashi Shimizu would be AWESOME!

If Jude's dogs (and what happened to them) were written out of the script then the movie would be a huge improvement on the book.

The whole time I was reading this book I was thinking of how good a movie it could be. I loved how much the dogs were used as strong heroic characters. I hope they'd keep them! It SO bothered me how they died, but the Black
Dogs their spirits were shown as were very important to the story.

Gary Oldman would be really good!

No. The book scared me enough by just reading it. I don't think the movie would have that same affect.

I loved the book and would worry that "Hollywood" would mess it up if made into a film.

The book scared me but I'm not sure a movie would...maybe if the right Director took it on so it didn't turn into an obvious jump scare film. It's more subtle than that... Love Joe Hill sooo much! All very creepy books :)

Yeah I think this would make a pretty good movie actually :)

I enjoyed "Heart-Shaped Box" better than "Horns" actually! Although, in my opinion, Box is not a great read for me. I understand that Joe Hill is Stephen King's son, but I was hoping that it would be better novels. I am not a big fan of Joe Hill.

Should definitely be made into a movie. Michelle Trachtenberg would be an excellent Marybeth IMO

I really liked the book, but I do not think it would translate well on film.

It was a fantastic book, made me feel the creeps and believe it or not I saw great scenes by what was described. I felt the tone of the book, it was so strong my days actually felt heavy like the book I had peace when they did.
That being said it wouldn´t really be that great in a movie, the scares in this book are most of the time subtle and pschyological so it would make for a lot of boring and meaningless time on screen.
It could also be very depressing and not in that cool way like the book with layers nope just plain depressing, I can picture it a movie with blue tints and low light you squinting to see what´s on scene and failing miserably.
I´ll stick to the book.

I believe I had heard Horns at one time was being made into a movie? Heart Shaped Box could be a good movie if done right...

I haven't read Horns yet, but they making a movie - due out later this year - Daniel Radcliffe is playing the lead role http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1528071/?... And yes, I think Heart Shaped Box should be made into a film :)

Stephen King's son is having his books made into movies - who would believe that?

James Franco as Jude? It is kind of a stretch, but he has been specialzing in scuzzy but likable characters... put on a few pounds, and voila,Oscar nom? :)

As you mentioned in previous comments, as far as the director respects the ghost development and most of its behaviours, everything will be alright.

I did not read all the comments 'cause I did not finish it but I'd also like to watch a film about this addictive book.

YES! Johnny Depp for Jude!!!!!

Dear God, no! The book was awful and the characters were completely unlikeable. I would much rather see his father finally adapt "The Talisman".

I read printed bookwhile listening to audio version read by actor Stephen Lang. I loved the unique concept of book (haunted suit) and once I learned that the sale was intentional...I braced myself to learn what were the motives and author Joe Hill (son of "The STEPHEN KING) took us on a thrilling ride in explaining this vindictive intentional motive of getting the main character Judas to purchase suit and Judas and other characters price of getting rid of the ghost. Although, the book was excellent, actor Stephen Lang did an excellent job of bringing the book to life in the audio version and I think that he should be selected to play the character Craddock McDermott when the movie production begins.

If it was well done, I think this book would/could make an awesome movie!

I agree with Godiva3. This book scared the crap out of me, but I'm not sure how it would transfer to film.

I think the book would translate well to film, if they respect the material and hire the right talent for it.

I thought it was being written specifically to be made into a movie. The happy ending didn't seem to fit into everything that happened earlier in the novel. It could easily be done the right way by someone like Rob Zombie.

i don't think so , the book was in slowly motion that what makes the story enjoyably for me , if they translate it into movie i will not watch it !!

Only be great if Sam Raimi made it.

The book was too good. Any visualization (movie, graphic novel) would ruin it for me. Make your movie if you want, but I'll skip it.

Yes and so should Horns. Great books!!!

Horns IS being made into a movie :) It's in post-production now, and should be release later this year(?). Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, for the three folks alive who haven't seen THOSE films) will be playing Ig.
I'm pretty psyched.
Also, I think HSB would make a great film. Maybe get Henry Rollins or someone equally grizzled and badass to play Jude...?

Yeah the book was too good. Sorry.

I think this would be a great movie.

Personally, I thought it was unremarkable enough as a book. If it was to be a movie, I think it would fall into the dreaded Nicholas Cage category of films that don't need to be made.

I think it would work out great as a film. Has an interesting plot twist that would make it very popular i think to horror funs. Myself? I would propably be too scared to watch it! Books despite being descriptive are less scary than films where the usage of music can highten the element of terror!

Would watch the movie, to see if it was anywhere near as good as the book. Hopefully they would follow the plot closely. Joe Hill is an amazing writer. I am now reading 'Horns'.

It does and I would love it if it became a movie, but many times the movies destroy the book, so I don't have a problem if it never does.

I think a movie version could go either way. The same goes for Horns. They are both fantastic books, but it depends on casting, directing, etc. for whether they would make great movies.

Hell yes, and I'll produce and direct it, too.

I thought the movie "The Box" was loosely related to this book? It did not get great reviews, but it made me think about this book. I enjoyed the book always makes me wonder if people pick money or life. What is more important?

I liked this book, in fact I couldn't put it down once I started. However, I thought this book was scary enough when I was imagining it all happening. If I actually saw it happen it would either scare me to death or ruin it completely.
