If you are interested in having your book read in the monthly book read, hit reply and

1 - Provide the name of the book
2 - Provide the genre.

All books will be selected in the order in which they were provided. I plan to double up book reads. For Instance, for the month of July, we are reading a paranormal and a sci-fi novel.

I will do all the advertizing, create an event a week prior to the first of every month when the event begins.

1 - No genre will be turned down
2 - I will have multiple book reads going for multiple genres :)

The author who recommends the book is in charge of leading the book read, asking for reviews, and group discussions.

On reviews I recommend:

Naked Truths About Getting Book Reviews by Gisela Hausmann

JULY BOOK READS:

BloodMarked by Lu J Whitley (romance)

and

The Dragon's Rocketship Presents The Ship's Log by R.L. Wicke
Pearl (Sci-fi Anthology)

Leticia (leticiatoraci) I would recommend this sci-fi anthology made by The Dragon's Rocketship Facebook group. I have a story there called Pearl.

- In space, fate rests in the hands who created the craft. Wits and creative risk separate life from death while navigating the three-dimensional sea or marooned on an alien planet. The trust between captain and crew unifies a mission. And sometimes, the final take-off is the hardest.
- Sci-fi collection of five short stories

Michael Lewis (mll1013) | 6 comments Angela wrote: "If you are interested in having your book read in the monthly book read."

How does the monthly book read work? Is there an online group who reads and discusses these works? I published my first book several months ago, and while there have been hundreds of downloads, only a handful of reviews have come back, providing a mere suggestion of what I can do to improve my writing as I work on the second book of the series. It would be great if there was a venue for us new indie authors to receive more feedback.

message 15: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Bateson (timothybateson) | 23 comments One of the things I commit to when reading a book is to leave a review. I make a particular point of trying to write an extended review when I know the book is by an indie author.

Basically, you recommend your book. All BOOKS WILL BE READ, they are announced in order that they are received and we cover multiple genres per month. So a romance and a fantasty/sci-fi will be announced each month. The author of the read is in charge of organizing it.

In turn, I do the advertizing for you :) I will blast it out and notify the 400+ members of the book shelf of the read :)

DM me for additional questions or post them here :)

I am on holiday from 22 June to 25 June :)

Excellent! Yes! AUTHORS! Don't be afraid to kindly request reviews. Things you should ask them to say

1 - What did you like about the book
2 - What surprised you about the story
3 - What other books/authors did the book remind you of.

This is up to the author. As an author, me personally? I would offer the eBook for free and hand out coupons for smashwords. It's up to the author and if you, as an author, come up with an idea, I will be happy to spread the news with the advertizing :)

Count me in, Angela. This sounds like a great way to publicize my first novel and hopefully get some more feedback on how I can improve.

Book: The Orthogonal Galaxy
Genre: Sci-Fi

I think a drawing prior to the first day of reading is the best way to go :) It should also draw in more readers :)

If you are interested in doing a drawing, let me know and I can help.

Mostly we make the announcement and direct people to this location where they have to "reply" to enter the drawing. We close the "polls" at a certain time and date and I draw a name or three (or however many you want) and we announce the results :)

Thanks Angela. I could manage five kindle e-books. I should mention I'll be away in Australia from 3rd September to 16th October so it would need to be before or after those dates.

Robert Polans (whitelion4) | 5 comments If you wait a little while, say a month- I hate deadlines. I'll be able to do some of the first Calla's Curse and some of the second. I'd need some help with the second in that my publisher wants me to bring it down to 5th to 8th grade level. My own poll said they wanted the adult book. So I need an unbiased beta reader.

I want to see how others are doing it first. Because if there are no readers, only writers, what's the point? Sadly, this is the experience I get in most clubs.

You can speak to Lu J Whitley and Alexandar Tomov to ask about how their readings went.

From what Lu said, she has had little to no response. It was because of this that I brought in AVBC (Aurelia). She has a good reader following with her book club because her approach is so unique.

What I recommend for authors is this:

Your website followers are already interested in your work. Your newsletter subscribers, Twitter followers, and Goodreads fans are already interested in what you write. When/if you want to do a book reading through the Book Shelf, notify your fans/readers/subscribers about the event and I recommend running a giveaway along with it. As an example, Dolor and Shadow is currently being read through AVBC this month. I contacted all my readers/fans and notified them of the signed paperback giveaway I am holding for AVBC members only.

Hello, all!

I'm reviewing old threads where I see author activity, but not reader activity and I am gathering feedback.

Authors: Have any readers responded to the book reads you have organized?

Readers: Are you interested at all in reading groups of this nature or are you more interested in forming your own book read?
