Tower running is a test of endurance and stamina. Participants compete for the shortest time to run up all of the interior staircases in a skyscraper. As seasoned athletes will tell you, tower running is really more about climbing and hoisting than running.

This month's race will be held in Taiwan at the Taipei 101 building on May 3. Put on some knee braces, lace up your most supportive shoes and prepare your mp3 player with some motivating music for a crazy climb up 91 floors (it's only 2046 steps).

For this challenge you will need to read the number of books to go at least 91 floors. You can read as many books as you want from each section, but only one from the last section. Books must be at least 200 pages unless specified. Re-reads are okay.

Categories: (view spoiler)

22 floors ~ read in 24 hours ~ The Big Bad Wolf by James Patterson (5/1/15)

45 floors ~ 400+ page book ~ Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi (5/1/15)

Held every September since 1985 in France, this marathon sounds like the most idiotic race known to man. The participants (dressed in costume) are expected to indulge in glasses of wine, while also stuffing themselves with local specialities such as oysters, foie gras, cheese, steak and ice-cream and still be able to run 42 km. Brilliant.

This year's theme is "Dressed Up to the Nines". Plan your costume, eat lots of carbs and get ready to see over 50 beautiful vineyards in the famous Médoc region.

Each book must be at least 200 pages. Re-reads are okay.
To finish the race, you must run past 59 vineyards.

(view spoiler)

8 vineyards ~ 200+ ~ Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline (9/2/15)

Poohsticks is first mentioned in The House at Pooh Corner, by A.A. Milne. It is a simple sport. Each player drops a stick on the upstream side of a bridge and the one whose stick first appears on the downstream side is the winner.

The bridge I have chosen is the 1831 London Bridge that is now across the Colorado River at Lake Havasu, Arizona. (Trust me. January is the best time of the year to visit Arizona!)

The bridge is 51 feet wide.
Read as many books from each category as you want until you pass 51.
Books have to be at least 200 pages. Re-reads are okay.

Duration: 10/1/16 - 10/31/16
Books: 8 of 4
Hours: 48 of 24

Everyone is invited to my house for a movie marathon. Since it's October, all the films will be scary. Since I don't like being frightened, they will all be comedy-horror movies. The funnier, the better. Please bring your own soda and popcorn :)

Wikipedia explains this particular movie genre like this: "While comedy horror films provide scares for audiences, they also provide something that dramatic horror films do not: 'the permission to laugh at your fears, to whistle past the cinematic graveyard and feel secure in the knowledge that the monsters can't get you'."

Each book you read is worth 6 hours of movie watching. You must watch (read) for at least 24 hours to complete the movie marathon.

The Cradle Mountain Run is a one day traverse of Tasmania's famous Cradle Mt to Lake St Clair. The event is a Run, not a Race, and mutual help is an important aspect. Hills are steep, the mud can suck your shoes off, and roots and stones make the going slow for the less nimble footed.

Books must be at least 200 pages.

Since the list is rather short, you can read 2 or 3 books for each sight.
Rereads are okay.

Great Knaresborough Bed Race
Duration: 7/1/25 - 7/31/25
Progress: 8 of 3 obstacles

The Great Knaresborough Bed Race is one of the most spectacular community events held in the UK.

It was first staged in 1966. Ninety teams of six runners and a passenger take part in a fancy dress pageant that comprises the first half of the event, before the race itself, with team leaving at 10-second intervals.

Lienen Barefoot Path

August's marathon is a nice, relaxing walk on one of Europe's popular barefoot paths. Let's all go to Lienen, Germany, and saunter around their 2.5 km (1.6 mile) trail.

While walking barefoot you will quickly develop a sense for the different surfaces - limestone, bark mulch, crushed stones, sand, grass, timber, paving and pebbles. So don't hesitate: Off with your shoes!
