Mary Beth (lifelovebooks) I thought this was an interesting second book. The second one is always tough as you already know the characters so the book needs to bring the action forward without delivering an ending.

Overall, the plot was interesting and I am eager to see where the next book goes from here, there were some unexpected twists, and I also like that Karou has to do some soul searching to discover who she really is. The romantic part of it drove me nuts - honestly I feel like that part is just being dragged out for a great reunion in the end and it isn't helping the plot at all, just making me want to pull my hair out!

Like the first book, the writing is beautiful and descriptive. I am highly anticipating the next book.

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) You summed up my thoughts on this book nicely, Mary Beth! I was a little bit over the romance too, either get back together or stop pining! haha... I loved the ending though, and can't wait to read the next book.

(Have you read anything else by Laini Taylor?)

Mary Beth (lifelovebooks) I haven't read anything else by her, but her writing really is beautiful and I would love to try something else. Have you read anything and/or have recommendations??

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I read her Lips Touch: Three Times, which is 3 short stories. They seem to have that exotic locale thing going on too. I liked the first two stories but the third felt a little long. I prefer this series.

Maree | 233 comments I had a lot of awesome reviewy stuff I wanted to say about this, but I had a major deadline and slacked on writing a review for a couple days and now I forget most of it. The one thing I do remember was how I totally fell for that one-two punch at the end! Pow, BAM! Laini Taylor, you rule. I was exactly where you wanted me to be for that, which is unusual considering the predictability of most YA books. So yay!!

As always, beautifully written, and with an adventure to match. The rules and magic in this world (worlds, lol) are just so well used, it's fantastic. A lot of authors will create all this cool stuff and then not really get to it aside from one little thing, but Taylor goes all out and explores every aspect. It's brilliant. The characters and their heartbreak and their resolve and their...everything! Love love love it!

Oh, I remembered one other thing I wanted to say. I read the first two pages and was upset for a second, thinking that Taylor couldn't be possibly pulling the 'I'm a girl, I can't do it!' line until I realized what it was Zuze wanted. HAHAHAHA! Believe me, I love Karou and Akiva (and Ziri. And Mik) but Z is totally my favorite character. <3
