Gun Control In The U.S.

I am against the bias against the mentally ill, however - almost all the mentally ill and depressed are non-violent and just as unlikely to go on a shooting spree as a person not suffering from depression or comparable.
Post traumatic stress disorder, which is common for soldiers, can lead a person to be dangerous and unstable. We have this bias against the mentally ill but would never tell a soldier returning from war they cannot have a gun when they come back. So we allow those with this condition weapons but not people with depression, women with post partum depression from childbirth, and other conditions?
Felons, it depends. I know a person who is a felon because of repeated traffic violations. In the older days a felon meant bad news. Now, it's much easier to become a 'felon' through non-dangeous crimes, so I think they should have levels when it comes to guns. I also think felons, once they have paid their time and are released, should be able to vote if they are supposed to be considered citizens again.

"I live in a small country called Ireland. The gun murder rate here is very low. I hear about somebody getting shot here about once or twice a year.
I can understand why some people in America might want to arm themselves with a gun because the gun murder rate in the states is 12,000 per year.
If the gun murder rate in America was lowered to 60 people per year would you still feel the need to have a gun?"
I believe in my amendments and the second amendment states that any single person has the right to bear arms. What if you were one of those sixty people to get murdered by a weapon? Wouldn't you have wanted to prevent that? Are you merely suggesting that we shouldn't be able to protect ourselves or our families with guns and weapons?

Sebastian,
A lot depends on where the person lives. Some cities are pretty rough so it's wise to have a gun. Some areas are heavy in guns by popularity but not high in crime, it really just depends.
I do think that anyone who wants to purchase a firearm MUST go to a training class for each firearm and MUST go through a background check. I do not believe that anyone who has a firearm should be made to register.
